After their satisfying meal, Nie Xingchen lay on the sofa as Yan Jingzhi presented her with a set of house keys. He explained that unlike a password, a key never expires, symbolizing their new life together. Deeply moved, Nie Xingchen accepted, and they shared a passionate night. The next morning, Zhao Yuanfang awoke in his hotel room to a photo from Zhen Nian on his phone.
He initially perceived it as a sweet gesture but soon realized it was a prank: Zhen Nian had collected all his clothes, leaving only women's attire. When Director Huang mentioned that Secretary Nie usually handled office organization, Yan Jingzhi asked to see her, despite having no memory of their past together.
Nie Xingchen felt immense injustice but couldn't express it, as Yan Jingzhi had no recollection of their relationship. During their meeting, he questioned her role as his chief secretary and grilled her on past business decisions, such as the acquisitions of Yuanda Group and an UAV company. Nie Xingchen explained these were linked to him trying to recruit and confess to her. She even tried to remind him that the mall acquisition was a cover for their "underground love."
Yan Jingzhi, however, adamantly denied any personal connection, stating he never mixes business with personal relationships and accused her of trying to exploit his amnesia for ulterior motives. Nie Xingchen insisted she was his girlfriend and suggested Zhao Yuanfang could vouch for them, but Yan Jingzhi dismissed this, warning her not to reveal his memory loss to anyone. Subsequently, he questioned her qualifications for the chief secretary position, stating the role required a postgraduate degree. Despite Nie Xingchen's confident defense of her capabilities and her legal rights as an employee, Yan Jingzhi, undeterred, had Director Huang transfer her to the archives. Nie Xingchen packed her belongings and went to the archives, finding it occupied by older employees like Sister Chen and Supervisor Wu.
The room was thick with dust, and they informed her that the archives were a "retirement department" where transferred employees had no hope of promotion. Meanwhile, the President's office was in disarray without Nie Xingchen. Director Huang speculated that Yan Jingzhi's sudden change in temperament was due to a rejected confession, citing how Yan Jingzhi sent him on a business trip right after he had witnessed Yan Jingzhi practicing a confession.
Yan Jingzhi, still demanding efficiency, ordered Director Huang to quickly find a new chief secretary, insisting on meeting candidates the next day. Later, Nie Xingchen tried to confront Yan Jingzhi by blocking his car, but he simply ignored her and drove past. Frustrated, Nie Xingchen sought out Dr. Han Ziyu at Jinghai Hospital. She explained Yan Jingzhi's repeated amnesia, which Dr. Han confirmed was psychological, with no physical abnormalities.
He noted that both instances of memory loss—five years ago when Yan Jingzhi proposed and now after their intimate night—resulted in him forgetting everything since Nie Xingchen entered his life. Dr. Han expressed his bewilderment at why Yan Jingzhi's "firewall" consistently deleted memories involving her, suggesting it was a psychological defense mechanism. Nie Xingchen asked if she was his "bug." Dr. Han explained the "primacy effect," stating that Yan Jingzhi now harbored a negative first impression of her.
He concluded that while proving their relationship might be difficult, since she had made him fall in love twice, there was a chance for a third time. Despite her feelings of unfairness, Nie Xingchen resolved to make Yan Jingzhi fall in love with her again, declaring she would become a "hacker" to "capture" him. Later, Zhao Yuanfang arrived at the President's office and was furious to find Jin Beina occupying Nie Xingchen's former desk with the chief secretary title. He stormed into Yan Jingzhi's office, demanding an explanation for Nie Xingchen's transfer and replacement. Yan Jingzhi remained impassive, telling Zhao Yuanfang he was free to do as he pleased. Angered, Zhao Yuanfang declared he would go straight to Nie Xingchen.
