Believing the team did not acknowledge his ability as director and feeling unsuited for the role, he requested a transfer from the Heping Road Special Division Station. Captain Meng was displeased, reminding Lou Mingye that he had actively sought the frontline position and should not be giving up now, advising him to reconsider carefully.
The next day, Director Lou announced at a meeting that problems arose in the station due to his work style, for which he took responsibility. He informed the team that he had submitted a transfer request to Captain Meng and that Instructor Lin and Deputy Yu would temporarily handle station affairs. As a final apology, he bought milk tea for everyone. Instructor Lin interrupted, preventing Director Lou from leaving abruptly.
He updated the team on Fang Xiangqian's situation, confirming hospital matters were resolved, Fang's mother was being admitted that day, and family support allowances were approved, covering future medical expenses. He revealed that it was Director Lou, not himself, who had painstakingly handled the paperwork, contacted Captain Meng and the hospital, and secured maximum benefits for Fang Xiangqian. Instructor Lin emphasized that Director Lou always acted to help but never spoke about his contributions.
He then addressed the team directly, acknowledging the recent issues, opinions, emotions, and conflicts within the station. He asked if they were still a team, to which they collectively responded yes. He pointed out that if the team lost face, everyone lost face, especially since they still had one more chance to qualify for the firefighting competition, yet some were giving up and behaving recklessly.
Instructor Lin questioned if they wanted to reclaim their pride after it had fallen, urging them not to give up. He then prompted Director Lou to speak, but instead, Director Lou simply ordered them to take the milk tea, reiterating the order when they hesitated. Instructor Lin then rallied the team, asking if they wanted and could redeem themselves, before ordering them to the training ground for a full sprint.
Inspired by Lin Luxiao's words, the team regained confidence, and Director Lou and Liu Ruyi reconciled. They then dedicated themselves to training to pass the firefighting assessment. After their collective efforts, the Heping Road Special Division Station passed the assessment and was selected to represent Beixun City in the National Firefighting Competition.
Captain Meng informed them of this news, and later, before the competition, he spoke with his son, Qi Huo, who was part of the competing team, urging him to perform well and not embarrass him. Qi Huo assured his father he would not. Director Lou led the team to the competition while Lin Luxiao stayed at the station. Before they left, Lin Luxiao encouraged them and wished them luck.
The team of ten firefighters, led by Director Lou, achieved second place in the competition. To reward them, Captain Meng proposed giving them a day off. Xia Wan was unable to attend due to work, which disappointed Liu Ruyi. The family members of the firefighters gathered, sharing frustrations about their partners' busy schedules and inability to help at home. Fang Xiangqian's wife recounted how the team members helped when her mother-in-law was hospitalized, which made her understand the bond between them and the unique nature of their profession.
She realized the team treated each other like family and felt she could better understand her husband's job because of it. Nan Chu spoke privately with Milan, asking if she regretted her divorce. Milan explained that while she understood the difficulties firefighters face and their sacrifice, she was just an ordinary woman who couldn't achieve such greatness. She admitted it was hard to face everything alone.
Milan then asked Nan Chu about her plans for the future, to which Nan Chu replied she didn't know, but she would protect Lin Luxiao no matter what. Milan admired Nan Chu's courage and wished them happiness. During the camping dinner, Nan Chu, Director Lou, and others surprised Lin Luxiao with a birthday cake, as he had even forgotten his own birthday. They all celebrated his birthday together. Afterwards, they took a group photo to remember the occasion.
Six months later, the movie starring Nan Chu premiered. Lin Qi and Jiang Ge attended to support her. Lin Luxiao took leave to celebrate with Nan Chu. At the premiere, a message entrusted by Comrade Li Haoyu before his death was conveyed by a comrade. The movie team, including Nan Chu, then greeted the audience.
