At Suodabu, Suodameng watched Eastern Land soldiers kill each other. Longge Kun offered him "good goods," including a woman, and Senior Gao, the soldier who had subdued Tieduo, confirmed her worth. In the slave cages, Tieduo used her ability to dominate other starving slaves fighting for water, winning a chance to drink even the dirty water. Suodameng recognized Tieduo, bowed slightly to her, and called her his most respected guest, ordering her immediate release from the cage.

Later, Suodameng hosted Tieduo with food and wine. Tieduo, however, had no appetite and directly demanded ships. Suodameng refused, stating it was too late as Muyu Shuo had already started the war against the Helan tribe. Suodameng, fearless, ordered Tieduo to be watched. Tieduo accused Suodameng of extorting the Eastern Land court using his troops and benefiting from the war. Suodameng also humiliated Mr. Abu by making him walk on salt scattered on the ground.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Land, Hege and his attendant, Ha'erqin, departed the palace, reaching Shangyang Pass on their way to Hanzhou. Hege expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ha'erqin, who reminded him that he had not bid farewell to Nanku Mingyi, the Empress. Hege, unwilling to worry his mother, continued his perilous journey, believing that living without the Muyun surname was equivalent to death and that he must climb to the highest position to control his own fate.

In the imperial palace, Nanku Mingyi prepared Hege's favorite walnut cakes, expecting his farewell. Wu Ruyi then informed her that Hege had already left the city and reached Shangyang Pass. Distraught by Hege's departure without seeing her, Nanku Mingyi rushed to Muyun Qin's palace, knelt outside, and requested to accompany Hege to Hanzhou. She confessed her various sins, admitting she had orchestrated "that incident" years ago by instructing Hege. Muyun Qin refused to see her.

Nanku Mingyi broke into the forbidden palace, begging Muyun Qin to banish her from the palace gates. Muyun Qin coldly stated that if she desired to leave the imperial city's cage, he would fulfill her wish by sending her to the imperial prison. Nanku Mingyi was subsequently imprisoned and harbored hatred for Muyun Qin in her heart.

Mu Ruhanjiang, hiding among refugees, attempted to leave Tianqi City but was stopped by Muyun Lu, who invited him to his residence for a drink. In the military camp, Muyun Lu informed Mu Ruhanjiang that the Muyu Iron Cavalry was in a deadlock in Hanzhou. The true reason was that shipping lanes were blocked, preventing food supplies from reaching the Northern Land, leading to a critical shortage of provisions and hindering their ability to fight.

Mu Ruhanjiang questioned why these shipping lanes, usually controlled by court officials, were blocked during wartime. Muyun Lu did not answer directly but revealed that Muyun Luan had returned to Wanzhou, after which Wanzhou completely lost all external contact, making it impossible for their people to infiltrate.

Muyun Lu advised Mu Ruhanjiang against going to Hanzhou, emphasizing that Shangyang Pass must be defended to ensure national stability, which in turn would safeguard Su Yuning's safety, as only if the flames of war did not reach Tianqi City would Su Yuning be safe. Mu Ruhanjiang joked that Su Yuning was more useful than him for motivating Muyun Lu's heart.

Muyun Lu did not respond but asked about Su Yuning's well-being, and Mu Ruhanjiang was surprised she had not sought Muyun Lu. Hege and Ha'erqin arrived at Quanming Port, where Ha'erqin suggested they escape. Hege adamantly refused, reiterating his determination to live with the Muyun surname. The port was strangely quiet, with only two people found with severed legs, indicating an unknown force had occupied it. Guided by the port's owner, they sought out the Tang brothers.

The Tang brothers, who were Merfolk, met them on the ship "Henggong," the only vessel willing to take Muyun Hege out to sea. Ha'erqin was disrespectful and was killed by their Merfolk maid. Hege, terrified and bound to a rack, was humiliated and injured by the Tang brothers. Hege revealed his identity and promised anything if he returned safely from Hanzhou.

The Tang brothers, disinterested in land, demanded that if Hege survived Hanzhou, he must ensure all nine-continent sea ports were given to them. Understanding this would mean all human maritime traffic would require Merfolk permission, Hege nonetheless agreed due to his desperate situation, and was instructed by the Tang brothers to remember to do this one thing for them upon his safe return as he prepared to cross the Tiankuo Strait.

In Tianqi City, Xue Huo informed Gusong Zhi of his intent to support Hege for the throne should Hege return safely. He planned to unite court officials to replace the current crown prince, believing that with Nanku Mingyi imprisoned and Hege having no strong backing, he would be easier for them to control in court.
