Love Together (Trial Marriage) Recap
Episode 1 Recap
At an industry summit, Gu Lingse, the current CEO of Dingzhuang Group, officially announced a comprehensive acquisition plan to expand their business territory. She explained that while the market was experiencing a downturn, Dingzhuang Group would face the challenge directly, and the acquisition plan would be implemented impartially, covering all companies present. Media reports quickly followed, highlighting that the "iron triangle in the Southeast" (Fangku, Ersi, and Yingli) would be difficult to dismember, but the true target was Future Corporation.
Upon receiving this news, Jiang Wenbin, the acting chairman of Future Corporation, urgently summoned Ye Chengshu, the son of the group's founder Ye Nanchuan, back to the country. While waiting for his ride near the airport, Ye Chengshu felt as though he was being followed, which his contact found unlikely given his long absence from the country.
During his return, Ye Chengshu encountered a situation where a child had fallen, and a woman was attempting to extort money, claiming he had pushed the child. Gu Lingse, who was riding a motorcycle and did not yet know Ye Chengshu, stepped in to help. She provided video evidence that the child was not pushed, leading to her own phone being broken by the angry woman.
Gu Lingse then offered Ye Chengshu her backup phone, and after he introduced himself, she told him they would meet again without revealing her own name. Gu Lingse later arrived at Future Corporation, unannounced, and stormed into Jiang Wenbin's office. She bypassed his offer of tea, stating that she was not there for acquisition but for cooperation to defeat Dingzhuang Group. Jiang Wenbin expressed skepticism, given her identity as Gu Huaiheng's daughter.
Gu Lingse countered by saying, "Gu's house is never my home." To gain his trust, she proposed an engagement with Ye Chengshu, promising to deliver Future Corporation to him in perfect condition within 99 days. Jiang Wenbin agreed to the 99-day engagement deal. Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu arrived at Future Corporation. He was initially turned away by a secretary for not having an appointment, despite stating his name.
He eventually entered Jiang Wenbin's office, only to find that Jiang Wenbin did not recognize him at first. Once Ye Chengshu identified himself as the son of Jiang Wenbin's "brother," Jiang Wenbin embraced him, happy that his brother's son would become his son-in-law. Ye Chengshu expressed concern about the company's precarious situation due to his father's shares nearing public sale, but Jiang Wenbin reassured him, revealing that Gu Lingse would be his "teacher" and assist him.
Ye Chengshu was surprised, questioning how a rival's CEO could help, but Jiang Wenbin insisted it would benefit both Future Corporation and Ye Chengshu's personal development. Jiang Wenbin stressed that the plan with Gu Lingse must remain a strict secret. Back at Dingzhuang Group, Gu Lingse's father, Gu Huaiheng, was initially furious about her engagement to Ye Chengshu, until she clarified it was part of a strategic plan to "swallow up" Future Corporation.
Pleased with her shrewdness, Gu Huaiheng then dismissed her long-serving secretary, Fulu Nan, replacing him with Beichen, who was tasked with being Gu Lingse's personal secretary and providing 24/7 service. Gu Lingse reluctantly accepted this arrangement. The news of Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu's engagement quickly became public, exacerbated by rumors of pregnancy. Quan Zimo, the media director of Mingri Group and an ardent admirer of Gu Lingse, was enraged.
He publicly declared himself to be Gu Lingse's man and called Ye Chengshu a "psycho." This outburst fueled a media frenzy and caused a significant drop in the stock prices of both Future Corporation and Dingzhuang Group, with public opinion becoming uncontrollable. Aware of being followed by reporters, Gu Lingse instructed Beichen to drive directly to Ye Chengshu's home, aiming to solidify their "relationship" in the public eye. Upon their arrival, reporters swarmed Gu Lingse.
Ye Chengshu, recognizing her from their earlier roadside encounter, quickly pulled her inside his home. Still unaware of her true identity, he asked if she was a superstar because of the media attention. He mentioned he already had a "girlfriend," Gu Lingse, the "commercial demoness" of Dingzhuang Group, whom he described unflatteringly but acknowledged as powerful. Gu Lingse was amused by his innocence.
Ye Chengshu then confessed his own struggles, explaining that despite being the CEO, his uncle controlled all his money, and lamented the typical power struggles within wealthy families. Gu Lingse offered her help, stating she was "no less than your girlfriend." Ye Chengshu affectionately called her "Big Sister" before she finally revealed her true name: Lingse Gu.
Episode 2 Recap
After enduring persistent journalists outside, Gu Lingse informed Ye Chengshu that she would be staying at his home for the night, and he directed her to a room on the first floor. Meanwhile, reporters outside speculated about their relationship, considering it a significant piece of news. Later, while Ye Chengshu was in the shower, he made a video call to Jiang Han, lamenting about how it felt to be a "kept man" due to Gu Lingse's strong capabilities.
Jiang Han jokingly suggested that since their relationship was publicly announced, Ye Chengshu should try to embrace the benefits of having a powerful woman take care of his troubles, even teasing him about being lazy and considering beautiful women "troublesome." Gu Lingse, who had been unable to open the first-floor bathroom door, overheard parts of the conversation. She then walked into Ye Chengshu's bathroom, startling him as he showered.
That night, a reporter informed Quan Zimo that Gu Lingse was spending the night at Ye Chengshu’s house. Furious, Quan Zimo demanded a hammer and smashed his computer, causing the call to end abruptly. The reporter decided against publishing the news, fearing Quan Zimo's reaction. Quan Zimo, seething, declared that Ye Chengshu was "playing with fire." The next morning, Gu Lingse, now dressed up, again rushed Ye Chengshu, who was still in the tub, to finish his shower.
She entered the bathroom and joked about his "good shape" and whether he harbored "presumptuous desires" for her. Later, Ye Chengshu spoke with Secretary Jin, who confirmed Gu Lingse had just left and warned him to be cautious of her, given Dingzhuang Group's aggressive acquisitions. Gu Lingse then reappeared and casually told Ye Chengshu to forget what had happened the previous night, to which he agreed.
She offered him instant noodles for breakfast, explaining he had no other food as he had just returned home. She also questioned him about his bodyguards, but he told her not to ask too many questions. Meanwhile, Quan Zimo directed his staff to move fireworks to the Gu family's beach, instructing them to surround the area and record everything, determined to remove Ye Chengshu from Gu Lingse's life.
He called Gu Lingse, who vaguely responded to his questions about her relationship with an "unknown guy," stating she had her reasons. Quan Zimo used the excuse of a "blown-up tire" to cover his plans from her. At the Future Group's shareholder meeting, Ye Chengshu formally arrived and was welcomed as the new Chairman. Jiang Wenbin made the official announcement, citing the growing threat from Dingzhuang Group and the need for new leadership.
Ye Chengshu introduced himself and immediately declared his intention to take charge of the Mulin County development project. This was met with skepticism, as the board recalled that Jiang Wenbin had decided to cancel it. Ye Chengshu explained later to Jiang Han that Mulin County was his father's homeland and spiritual home, and he would never abandon it. Disheartened by the opposition, Ye Chengshu confided in Jiang Han, who reaffirmed his support.
He then took Ye Chengshu to meet two senior executives, General Managers Zhang and Li, hoping to win their backing. However, the two managers, engrossed in books about feng shui, quickly dismissed any discussion of Mulin County, stating that Jiang Wenbin had explicitly forbidden them from getting involved. Afterward, Jiang Han called his father to argue on Ye Chengshu's behalf, but Jiang Wenbin remained firm in his opposition. Later, Gu Huaiheng received a call confirming Ye Chengshu's appointment as Chairman.
He summoned Gu Lingse and instructed her to bring Ye Chengshu to their home for dinner. Gu Lingse took the opportunity to ask her father to arrange for her to see her mother, which he agreed to. After she left, her stepmother complained about Gu Lingse, but Gu Huaiheng dismissed her. He revealed his plan to make Ye Chengshu realize that only he could save him from the Mulin County project's risks.
Gu Lingse arrived on her motorcycle to pick up Ye Chengshu, who commented that she looked "more beautiful from a distance" and suited the bike. She insisted he come to dinner with her father and first took him shopping for new clothes. Upon their arrival at the Gu home, Gu Lingse’s stepmother greeted them warmly, but Gu Peiya, her stepsister, made snide remarks about Gu Lingse "tempting men" and mistook Ye Chengshu for a "back-up."
Ye Chengshu observed people watching them during dinner, feeling like he was in a "prison," to which Gu Lingse replied she was used to it. Mistaking Gu Lingse's stepmother for a nanny, Ye Chengshu asked if she could cook at his house, prompting her to clarify her identity. Gu Lingse then introduced Ye Chengshu as the Chairman of Future Group, and Gu Peiya acknowledged he was "kind of handsome."
Episode 3 Recap
During a family dinner at the Gu residence, Gu Lingse's stepmother introduced herself to Ye Chengshu. Gu Peiya, Lingse’s stepsister, soon appeared and provocatively referred to Ye Chengshu as Gu Lingse's "back-up," attempting to flirt with him and offer him food. Gu Lingse subtly warned her off, reminding her that the food wasn't hers. The stepmother smoothed things over, stating that the sisters had a habit of bickering since childhood.
When Gu Huaiheng, Gu Lingse's father, returned home, Gu Peiya immediately complained about Gu Lingse's arrogance. Gu Huaiheng sent Gu Lingse to her room, ensuring she received whatever food she desired there. Gu Huaiheng then shifted his attention to Ye Chengshu, bringing up the Mulin Town project. He explained his interest stemmed from Ye Chengshu's late father, Ye Nanchuan, who had gone to Mulin Town before his death, regretting that Ye Nanchuan had passed away before he could reach him.
He noted that the project initiated by Jiang Wenbin had since stalled. Ye Chengshu expressed his determination to proceed with the project. While Gu Huaiheng offered his general support, he hesitated to invest directly, stating it wasn't possible for him. He then turned to Gu Lingse, asking for her opinion. Gu Lingse promptly declared she would help Ye Chengshu find an investor. Gu Huaiheng acknowledged his poor relationship with Jiang Wenbin would complicate any direct involvement.
Later, Gu Huaiheng privately discussed Ye Chengshu with his assistant, finding him "complicated." He inquired about Gu Lingse's mother, who was "lunatic as always," which he seemed to find reassuring. He instructed his assistant to arrange a visit for Gu Lingse to her mother next Friday, expressing his unease that "she knows too much after all."
The assistant also mentioned the drawings for an "Eco-floating Island," and Gu Huaiheng connected this to Ye Nanchuan's vision for Mulin Town as a "new generation residence for human beings." He then ordered his assistant to get Gu Lingse and begin searching for these drawings while also working on the takeover of Weilai Group. Unbeknownst to them, Gu Lingse overheard this entire conversation. Suddenly, Gu Peiya appeared and loudly called Gu Lingse's name, exposing her presence.
Enraged, Gu Huaiheng confronted Gu Lingse for being in a restricted area without permission and raised his hand to strike her. Ye Chengshu intervened, grabbing Gu Huaiheng's arm and deflecting his anger by admiring his watch. Gu Huaiheng then dismissed Ye Chengshu, stating he had "family business" with his daughter, and ordered Gu Lingse into his study. After Gu Lingse left, Gu Peiya tried to proposition Ye Chengshu, suggesting she could work at his company.
Ye Chengshu politely declined, implying her involvement would lead to the company's downfall. Gu Peiya pressed further, questioning his preference for Gu Lingse, highlighting her age and work-centric nature. Ye Chengshu, subtly implying Gu Peiya led a carefree life, suggested she help him if she wanted to compete with Gu Lingse, then made his excuses and left to avoid further gossip. Alone with Ye Chengshu, Gu Lingse thanked him for his timely intervention.
Ye Chengshu asked if her father often treated her that way, expressing his concern, though Gu Lingse tried to brush it off, claiming she was used to it. He teasingly reminded her of their previous kiss, asking if she wanted to try again, to which she replied "maybe next time," referencing her still-cut lip. Shortly after, Gu Lingse called Quan Zimo, who was preparing a fireworks display for her.
She informed him that her father had learned of Jiang Wenbin's decision to abandon the Mulin Town project and that the Gu family intended to take it over, instructing Quan Zimo to go to Mulin Town the next day. Ye Chengshu then told Gu Lingse that he also had business in Mulin Town. Gu Lingse, honoring her word, offered to accompany him, explaining she needed to inspect the town before approaching investors.
When Ye Chengshu asked why she was helping him, she replied it was "the return for the slap you stopped for me." Ye Chengshu, however, suggested a more formal "valuation adjustment mechanism" agreement: if she could secure an investor for his Mulin Town project, he would help her regain her freedom.
Meanwhile, Quan Zimo was about to launch the fireworks he prepared for Gu Lingse when his subordinates warned him that if he didn't act fast, Gu Lingse might become "somebody else's." He gave the signal, but his grand gesture was unintentionally co-opted. As the fireworks lit up the sky, Ye Chengshu seized the perfect moment, taking Gu Lingse's hand before a crowd, introducing himself, and publicly declaring her as his girlfriend, a statement Gu Lingse affirmed.
Hearing this, a heartbroken Quan Zimo lamented the "noise of my heart-breaking." That night, Gu Lingse asked Bei Chen to take Ye Chengshu home, with Ye Chengshu promising to pick her up the next day. The next morning, Gu Lingse and Bei Chen arrived at Weilai Group to meet Ye Chengshu. There, they encountered Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li, whose "Back-yard Garden of Life" project—a proposal for shared burial plots—had just been rejected by Jiang Wenbin as too unconventional.
Seeing an opportunity to get rid of her father’s spy, Bei Chen, Gu Lingse advised the two men to approach her father, whom she described as "open-minded." To facilitate their meeting and divert Bei Chen, she offered him triple his usual pay to escort Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li to her house. With Bei Chen gone, Gu Lingse received a call from Ye Chengshu, and they confirmed their plan to go to Mulin Town.
As they were leaving, Secretary Jin insisted on driving them, citing the dangerous roads and her concern for their safety. Simultaneously, Gu Huaiheng played mahjong with Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li. During the game, Gu Huaiheng emphasized that like mahjong, projects depend on "who's the dealer," implying his control.
He expressed interest in their "Back-yard Garden of Life" project and agreed to invest on one condition: they were to act as his informants within Weilai Group, keeping their eyes and ears open and relaying all pertinent news to him. Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li readily accepted. Later, on their journey, Gu Lingse admitted she was tired and decided to take a nap.
Upon their arrival in Mulin Town, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse observed a young girl selling delicate wood carvings. Gu Lingse, after learning that the girl was a "kid of everyone"—a term for left-behind children cared for by the elderly after their grandparents pass away—bought all her carvings. Soon after, Su Nian, the sister of Ye Chengshu’s childhood friend Su Zhe, recognized Ye Chengshu and greeted him warmly, reminding him he used to hug her. She then directly asked if Gu Lingse was his girlfriend, the one mentioned "on the news." Ye Chengshu confirmed this was true.
Episode 4 Recap
Ming Rixin, the daughter of the Mingri Group's chairman, spent her time at home painting portraits of Quan Zimo, clearly missing him. Her mother teased her about her affections, while her father, Chairman Ming, was informed by his secretary that Ye Chengshu had returned to China and intended to restart the Mulin Town project. Deciding this matter required his personal attention, Chairman Ming chose to return to China and invited Ming Rixin to accompany him.
Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse arrived in Mulin Town to visit his childhood friend, Su Zhe, and Su Nian. Su Nian was delighted to see Ye Chengshu and, curious about his relationship with Gu Lingse, cautiously asked about the rumors. Ye Chengshu simply stated he was in a relationship and dismissed the internet gossip about company contracts. Soon after, Su Zhe and Uncle Su returned.
Uncle Su initially expressed anger at Ye Chengshu for leaving Mulin Town years ago without a word, but quickly softened. Ye Chengshu explained his intention to develop Mulin Town. Uncle Su then shared that Ye Chengshu's father, Ye Nanchuan, had once undertaken a large-scale ecological project called "Shizishui" in the back mountain, building beautiful bamboo houses there before his health declined and the project was abandoned.
Intrigued, Ye Chengshu decided he and Gu Lingse needed to visit the site to assess the feasibility of reusing the structures for his own development plans. Despite Uncle Su's warnings about the danger, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse set off. Elsewhere, two managers from the Future Group were seen with Secretary Bei, an associate of Gu Huaiheng. They discussed a development project, with Secretary Bei confidently assuring them that Chairman Gu Huaiheng’s investment was guaranteed.
Back at Su Nian's house, Secretary Jin, Ye Chengshu's assistant, impressed Su Nian with her academic background and successful career at a young age. Su Nian, aspiring to work with Ye Chengshu, inquired about internship opportunities at the Future Group, to which Secretary Jin offered to check for openings. As Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse ascended the back mountain, they unexpectedly encountered Quan Zimo, who was also conducting research for the Mingri Group regarding a new project in Mulin Town.
Quan Zimo immediately displayed hostility towards Ye Chengshu and tried to persuade Gu Lingse to leave with him. However, Ye Chengshu intervened, and Gu Lingse sternly reminded Quan Zimo to focus on his professional duties. A visibly jealous Quan Zimo eventually departed. Continuing their journey, Gu Lingse nearly slipped, but Ye Chengshu quickly caught her, creating an intimate moment.
They reached a unique bamboo bridge, which Ye Chengshu explained was one of only two in the world built without damaging the environment, a testament to his father's vision for the "Shizishui" project. Upon arriving at the "Shizishui" site, Ye Chengshu discovered a work ID badge belonging to Dong Tang, Assistant President of Dingzhuang Group. He concealed the badge from Gu Lingse and abruptly announced they would not proceed further that day, leaving Gu Lingse confused.
Back in Mulin Town, Secretary Jin grew worried about Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse's prolonged absence as night fell. She went out to search for them and found them, expressing her concern about them being in the dangerous forest alone. Ye Chengshu quickly instructed Secretary Jin to drive Gu Lingse back, claiming he had something personal to attend to. Later, Ye Chengshu contacted Jiang Wenbin, revealing his discovery of Dong Tang's ID badge from Dingzhuang Group at the "Shizishui" site.
He shared his suspicion that Gu Lingse was withholding information about Dingzhuang Group's prior involvement in Mulin Town. Jiang Wenbin, however, admitted to having worked privately with Gu Huaiheng on Dingzhuang Group’s research in Mulin Town, explaining that Gu Lingse would naturally be unaware. He urged Ye Chengshu not to worry, yet Ye Chengshu remained unconvinced, still harboring doubts about Jiang Wenbin’s complete honesty.
Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng telephoned Gu Lingse, instructing her to attend an upcoming art exhibition and acquire the painting "Useless to be Useful" by Ming Tianyin, the president of Mingri Group, at any cost. He emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, anticipating that Ye Chengshu might also attempt to secure Mingri Group's investment.
Ye Chengshu, after discussing the Mingri Group with his brother and realizing their potential interest in Mulin Town, also decided to attend the exhibition to forge a connection with Ming Tianyin. At the art exhibition, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse encountered each other, both understanding the other's underlying motive: to establish a relationship with Mingri Group. During the auction for Ming Tianyin's painting "Useless to be Useful," Gu Lingse, representing Dingzhuang Group, placed a bid of ten million.
Ye Chengshu, however, made an unconventional bid of only 50. This unusual offer caught Ming Tianyin's attention, leading him to accept Ye Chengshu's bid and invite him to his office, much to Gu Lingse's admiration.
Episode 5 Recap
Ye Chengshu met with Ming Tianyin, the President of Ming Ri Group, to discuss potential cooperation for the Mulin County project. Ye Chengshu candidly critiqued Ming Tianyin's paintings as outdated, doctrinaire, and boring. Though initially taken aback, Ming Tianyin was intrigued by Ye Chengshu's well-researched insights into art, which Ye Chengshu admitted he specifically looked up for their meeting. Ming Tianyin then agreed to discuss Mulin County.
Meanwhile, Quan Zimo was preparing a birthday present for Gu Lingse when he learned that Ming Rixin, Ming Tianyin's sister, had returned and was angrily looking for him. Quan Zimo attempted to evade her through a side door but was intercepted. Ming Rixin, who harbored feelings for Quan Zimo, was upset to discover he had a birthday gift for Gu Lingse, whom he openly called his goddess.
She reminded him that Gu Lingse was Ye Chengshu's girlfriend, but Quan Zimo dismissed it. The two engaged in a flurry of insults, with Ming Rixin calling Quan Zimo a "big chest, mindless idiot" and Quan Zimo retorting with "violent Shorty, Bucket Meal," before she ordered him back to work. Later, Ye Chengshu continued his discussion with Ming Tianyin, expressing concern over Ming Ri Group's plan for a complete demolition and reconstruction of Mulin Town.
He argued that this approach would strip the town of its unique character and harm Ming Ri Group's reputation. Ye Chengshu proposed a cooperative development under his own name, but Ming Tianyin questioned his qualifications, referring to him as merely a layman specializing in toy design. It was at this point that Ming Rixin walked into her brother’s office. Ye Chengshu introduced himself to her as Gu Lingse’s boyfriend.
Ming Rixin confirmed this was a genuine relationship, not merely a facade to stabilize stock prices. She then revealed her true intention: she was concerned about anything developing between Quan Zimo and Gu Lingse. She challenged Ye Chengshu’s relationship with Gu Lingse, suggesting Gu Lingse lacked vision, to which Ye Chengshu responded that it was inappropriate to say that in front of him.
Ming Rixin then offered Ye Chengshu a "test" as a condition for smooth cooperation on the Mulin County project: he had to prepare a lavish birthday dinner for Gu Lingse that very night and ensure she stayed at his home. Ye Chengshu, unaware it was Gu Lingse's birthday, accepted the challenge. Concurrently, Gu Huaiheng was furious, believing Ye Chengshu was feigning ignorance. He speculated that his own daughter, Gu Lingse, might be too naive.
He was frustrated by the lack of progress in locating crucial drawings and news regarding Mulin County. When he learned from his assistant that Quan Zimo wanted to celebrate Gu Lingse's birthday, Gu Huaiheng, despite Gu Lingse's protests about her public relationship with Ye Chengshu, insisted she meet with Quan Zimo. He instructed her to extract information about Ye Chengshu's discussions with Ming Tianyin.
For her previous oversight, Gu Huaiheng punished Gu Lingse by confining her to a sealed room, telling her to reflect on her actions. Nan Fulu, Gu Lingse's former private secretary, secretly called Ye Chengshu, informing him that Gu Lingse had a deep-seated fear of such confined spaces due to childhood punishments and desperately needed his help. Upon receiving Nan Fulu's urgent call, Ye Chengshu rushed to the Gu family residence.
Despite attempts by a guard to block him and claim Gu Lingse was not home, Ye Chengshu forced his way in and found Gu Lingse in a state of distress within the confinement room. He quickly rescued and comforted her. That evening, a fierce typhoon raged outside, but inside Ye Chengshu's home, a warm atmosphere prevailed.
Ye Chengshu, despite feeling a pang of guilt that the dinner was initially prompted by Ming Rixin, cooked a special birthday meal for Gu Lingse. Gu Lingse was deeply moved, expressing that it had been years since anyone had celebrated her birthday with such a personal gesture. During dinner, Ye Chengshu presented his "best dish," "Take Away the Shrimps from under the Yubas." However, upon realizing the dish contained shrimp, Gu Lingse's breathing became labored.
She quickly called Doctor Luo, explaining she had just consumed seafood and was experiencing an allergic reaction. Meanwhile, Quan Zimo, disheartened by the knowledge that Gu Lingse was with Ye Chengshu, abandoned his carefully arranged birthday celebration and walked alone in the pouring rain. Ming Rixin spotted him soaked through and pulled him into her car. She advised him to give up on Gu Lingse, but Quan Zimo refused to relent.
To lift his spirits, Ming Rixin comically sang, which unexpectedly touched him. The radio then played a song dedicated to Gu Lingse from a "Mr. Quan," which Ming Rixin, despite her earlier intentions, found embarrassing.
Episode 6 Recap
Ye Chengshu unknowingly fed Gu Lingse shrimp, triggering a severe seafood allergy. As her allergy medicine had run out, Ye Chengshu insisted on taking her to the hospital immediately, despite the heavy rain outside, as waiting for their regular doctor would take too long. After their initial ride-hail was stuck in traffic, Ye Chengshu, seeing Gu Lingse’s distress, carried her out into the pouring rain to a waiting vehicle, which then rushed them to the hospital.
The driver, witnessing Ye Chengshu’s deep concern, remarked on his reliability. At the hospital, Gu Lingse reassured Ye Chengshu that she would recover. Ye Chengshu then confessed that Ming Rixin had suggested he arrange the birthday dinner, offering Future Group's cooperation with Mingri Group as a condition. To make amends for the allergy incident, Gu Lingse playfully requested that Ye Chengshu cook her another big dinner once she recovered, but without any shrimp.
He readily agreed, promising to cook whatever she desired. Feeling tired, Gu Lingse asked him to stay by her side as she drifted off to sleep. A nurse later confirmed that Gu Lingse’s condition was stable but required observation, as she had suffered from anaphylactic shock, excessive fatigue, and hypoglycemia. Ye Chengshu assured the nurse he would look after her throughout the night.
Gu Lingse then had a dream of her mother lovingly feeding her an apple and reminding her to be cautious. Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng was furious upon learning of Gu Lingse's hospitalization through the media, fearing her growing emotional connection with Ye Chengshu would lead her to help Future Group. He immediately ordered Bei Chen to retrieve Gu Lingse from the hospital and bring her home.
When Bei Chen arrived with his men, he confronted Ye Chengshu, insisting on taking Gu Lingse back under Chairman Gu’s orders. He argued that she needed rest at home with their private doctor and warned of potential damage to their companies' stock prices if the news persisted. However, Ye Chengshu firmly refused, asserting he would personally care for Gu Lingse and would not allow her to be moved.
When Bei Chen ordered his men to remove Gu Lingse's IV, Ye Chengshu physically intervened, vehemently telling them not to touch her. Seeing Ye Chengshu’s unyielding determination, Bei Chen backed down and left. To ensure her safety, Ye Chengshu then instructed hospital security to prevent any unauthorized visitors until she recovered. Gu Lingse, witnessing his fierce protection, was deeply moved.
At Ming Ri Group, Ming Rixin encountered Quan Zimo and informed him about Gu Lingse's hospitalization, offering to drive him there. Quan Zimo, however, chose not to visit, stating that with Ye Chengshu by her side, Gu Lingse would be fine. Ming Rixin jokingly called him a "sensible backup." Elsewhere, Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang, who had been trying to meet Gu Huaiheng, presented their "Ultimate Human House" project, also known as "Back Garden Sharing," which proposed underground living.
Gu Huaiheng scornfully dismissed their idea and them, calling them "good-for-nothing dogs." Later, unable to find Ye Chengshu, Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang approached Jiang Han about their "Garden in the Air" project instead. Jiang Han politely declined, stating the board had already halted the project. Jiang Han had earlier presented his own "Shi Zi Shui Project Plan" to his father, Jiang Wenbin, hoping to reconcile the differences between his father and Ye Chengshu.
However, Jiang Wenbin harshly rejected the plan, accusing Jiang Han of having ulterior motives and trying to use the opportunity to gain power for himself. He asserted that the Mulin County project was a matter between him and Ye Chengshu, not Jiang Han, before angrily dismissing his son. Previously, Ming Rixin's father had instructed her to set up a meeting for Ye Chengshu regarding Mulin County, advising her to arrange for an investor named Mr. Ming to meet him.
Subsequently, while at the hospital, Ye Chengshu received a call from Ming Rixin, who informed him she had secured an investor and scheduled a meeting for the following day. Eager to prepare, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse used their time at the hospital that night to review and optimize the project proposal.
Gu Lingse praised Jiang Han’s initial plan for Mulin County but raised concerns about the need to demolish original buildings, which her father had designed to coexist harmoniously with the natural environment. They discussed the challenge of attracting investors without incorporating more commercial elements. The next day, Ye Chengshu arrived at the appointed location, expecting to meet an investor. He was directed by staff to what he believed was a meeting with "Mr. Ming of Jinke Group."
However, upon entering, he realized he had been tricked into attending a "CEO Training Course." He was further frustrated when he was told he couldn't make phone calls during the confidential session, just as he received a critical message from Gu Lingse regarding the Mulin project.
Episode 7 Recap
Ye Chengshu arrived early at the hotel for his meeting with investor Ming Nianqiang but was mistakenly led into an adjoining training hall, a front for a pyramid scheme. He tried to leave and make a phone call, but he was told that calls were prohibited during the confidential meeting, and his attempts were blocked.
As the scheme leader, Mr. Qiang, began his lecture on "Success Science" and introduced a project, "The Development Plan of Sunshine Ranch in Mulin Town," Ye Chengshu became interested. When Ye Chengshu introduced himself as being from Future Group, Mr. Qiang was visibly surprised and immediately had his staff research Ye Chengshu's identity, instructing them to disable the signal blocker in the room. Confirming Ye Chengshu's background, Mr. Qiang invited him to a VIP room, praising his talent.
Mr. Qiang then presented a contract for the "Sunshine Town Project." Ye Chengshu, trying to stall, requested to consult his secretary and retrieve his company seals, but Mr. Qiang pressed him to sign, questioning why he was so cautious over a mere five million yuan contract. Ye Chengshu attempted to negotiate for more funding, but Mr. Qiang abruptly demanded the money be in his account that very day.
He confiscated Ye Chengshu's phone, threatening to take him to another city if he refused to comply. Ye Chengshu warned Mr. Qiang about the rule of law, but Mr. Qiang retorted that he had nothing to lose and that no one, "not even the king of heaven," could save Ye Chengshu. Ye Chengshu confidently replied that while the king of heaven might not, the "business devil" could.
At that critical moment, Gu Lingse arrived, introducing herself as being from Dingzhuang Group. She confronted Mr. Qiang, referring to him as a "big shot" and engaging in a physical altercation. She then instructed Ye Chengshu to go meet Ming Nianqiang, who was waiting for him, and left her bodyguard, Bei Chen, to handle the fraudsters until the police arrived. Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng met with Mr. Zhao's assistant, referred to as Jie, on a boat.
Gu Huaiheng mentioned a previous attempt to discuss something with Jie via Dongtang. Jie explained he was only an assistant and not authorized to make decisions, but acknowledged that in the industry, he was seen as Mr. Zhao's representative, calling himself Mr. Zhao's "fishing rod." Gu Huaiheng presented "bait" to Jie, who accepted it, implying their conspiracy would proceed to "hunt for a big fish."
Ye Chengshu finally met Ming Nianqiang and presented his Mulin Town project plan, highlighting its potential to attract tourists and foster coordinated development with the Shizishui project. Ming Nianqiang, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the project's annualized return and deemed the ideal final stage difficult to achieve, stating his company was too small to confront such risks, even with Dingzhuang Group's support.
Instead, Ming Nianqiang offered Ye Chengshu a challenge: design a comprehensive commercial body for Jiangnan Town, which had more mature infrastructure, within 24 hours. If Ye Chengshu succeeded, Ming Nianqiang would then invest in the Mulin Town project. Ming Nianqiang confirmed his promise to invest in the Mulin Town project if Ye Chengshu completed the task. After Ye Chengshu left, Ming Rixin questioned if the 24-hour deadline was too challenging, given Ye Chengshu's background in toy design.
Ming Nianqiang then revealed that Ye Chengshu had also pursued architectural design at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, where he earned degrees in architecture and mathematics under the master of design, Malzahar. Later, Gu Lingse found Ye Chengshu working intensely on the Jiangnan Town design. She and Jiang Han offered their assistance, discussing specific regions and aspects of the plan. Gu Lingse lauded his brilliant ideas.
With their help, Ye Chengshu managed to complete the demanding design challenge within the deadline. Ye Chengshu presented his completed Jiangnan Town design to Ming Nianqiang. Ming Rixin asked if her father would now cooperate. Ming Nianqiang then revealed his true identity: not only was he Ming Rixin’s father, but also a friend of Ye Chengshu’s late father, Ye Nanchuan, and a previous investor in the Shizishui project.
Ye Chengshu recalled his father humorously describing Ming Nianqiang as an "investor as cruel as a gangster," a label Ming Nianqiang found fitting. Ming Nianqiang expressed regret at not having bid farewell to Ye Nanchuan. He stated that Ye Nanchuan had solved a problem he had given him years ago, and now it was Ye Chengshu's turn to do the same and uphold his father's legacy.
Ming Nianqiang promised to fully support the Mulin County project, affectionately calling Ye Chengshu a "silly boy." To celebrate this success, Ye Chengshu, Gu Lingse, and Ming Rixin gathered in a wine cellar. Ming Rixin revealed that the earlier charade was her father’s doing, as he enjoyed being mysterious, and she had cooperated. She explained the cellar was built by her father for her mother's love of wine. They toasted to Ye Nanchuan’s romantic gesture and the new investment.
Ye Chengshu, showing a Lego set his father had given him, made a playful, drunken comment. He eventually passed out from drinking too much. Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng contacted his men, who reported that they did not find the "Floating Island blueprint" at Ye Chengshu's house but instead found Ye Nanchuan's stamp. Gu Huaiheng, deeming it likely useless, instructed them to keep it anyway.
The next morning, a bodyguard informed Gu Lingse that Chairman Gu (Gu Huaiheng) had ordered them to continue searching for the blueprint at Mulin County. Gu Lingse expressed her anger at the directive, but the bodyguard, while reiterating his loyalty to her, hinted that a raise would make him even more loyal. Gu Lingse was upset but chose not to disclose these events to Ye Chengshu. Later, Ye Chengshu presented his Mulin County plan to other managers.
They questioned the project's long payback period and profitability. Ye Chengshu clarified that the project's profits would steadily rise once a virtuous cycle was established and provided detailed materials on the return rates. Jiang Han seemed unwell during this meeting. Jiang Wenbin then publicly announced that Ye Chengshu would be in full charge of the Mulin County project, urging him to be bold and not make any mistakes, thereby removing his own involvement.
Episode 8 Recap
Gu Lingse visited her mother, Mu Qiuhui, at the sanatorium. Her mother's condition was unstable, and she frequently had nightmares. The doctor informed Lingse that her mother's state had stabilized and urged her to visit more often. During the visit, a patient from the next ward, Zhao Guobang, entered and acted like a doctor before being led away. The name seemed to trigger a memory for Mu Qiuhui, who spoke fondly of a childhood friend named Guobang.
However, her condition then worsened, and she failed to recognize Lingse, calling her "little girl." Despite the confusion, Mu Qiuhui repeatedly encouraged Lingse to work hard with her father, Gu Huaiheng, and to take good care of him. Meanwhile, Tomorrow Group's first investment funds for the Mulin Town renovation project were deposited, forcing a reluctant Jiang Wenbin to give his tacit approval.
When Ye Chengshu tried to discuss the project, Jiang Wenbin refused to interfere, stating that Mulin Town was entirely Ye Chengshu's responsibility and warning him not to expect any help if things went wrong. To celebrate, Ye Chengshu invited Gu Lingse to a small, bustling restaurant. Despite being followed by Gu Huaiheng's men, they enjoyed their meal. When Ye Chengshu mentioned meeting Sunian, a woman from Mulin County, Lingse playfully declared herself a very possessive person.
Taking advantage of the noisy atmosphere, Ye Chengshu loudly confessed his feelings, saying, "I like you." Shortly after, a waiter accidentally spilled a hot dish, scalding Ye Chengshu's hand. Lingse insisted they leave to get medicine, but he downplayed the injury. Following Gu Huaiheng's instructions, Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang began to sow discord. Zhang Chengfeng approached Jiang Han, revealing that his mother, Wen Jing, had died in the collapse of the "Garden in the Air" project.
This high-profile construction was led by Ye Nanchuan, with Gu Huaiheng as a partner who secured investors. Zhang Chengfeng claimed Ye Nanchuan hid the truth about the accident and that Jiang Wenbin had to "save the situation." He then fueled Jiang Han's resentment by criticizing Ye Chengshu's actions in the Mulin project and comparing his willfulness to his father's, urging Jiang Han to reconsider his place at Future Corporation.
At the same time, Li Polang met with Jiang Wenbin, stoking his frustrations about his years of hard work being overlooked while the Ye family reaped the benefits. Later, Ye Chengshu received a call from an informant warning him that Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang were up to something, possibly orchestrated by Gu Huaiheng, and advising him to be cautious with Gu Lingse. Ye Chengshu dismissed the warning to Lingse.
He then shared his plan to hire Tomorrow Group for Mulin Town's publicity, which meant dealing with the autonomous head of their Publicity Department, Quan Zimo. Ye Chengshu called Quan Zimo, who, hearing Lingse's voice, insisted on meeting her in person. Lingse agreed to go alone to Dedao Garage, telling Ye Chengshu it was necessary for both professional and personal reasons.
At their meeting, Quan Zimo expressed his frustration, accusing Lingse of living according to her father's will and calling her and Ye Chengshu "dolls bound by commercial interests." He pleaded with her not to be a pawn in Gu Huaiheng's schemes. Lingse firmly told him to stop. She urged him to seriously consider the Mulin project for the sake of Tomorrow Group's interests and, after thanking him for his long-standing concern, asked him to stop wasting his time on her.
As the day ended, Gu Huaiheng waited on his yacht. He was informed that Jiang Wenbin was en route, and, surprisingly, that Jiang Han was also coming. Gu Huaiheng instructed his subordinate to intercept Jiang Han separately. Jiang Wenbin arrived at the yacht first. Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng's man met Jiang Han elsewhere and presented him with a document: the "Construction Liability Statement of Garden in the Air." Both Jiang Wenbin and Jiang Han were now being drawn deeper into Gu Huaiheng's machinations.
Episode 9 Recap
Gu Huaiheng's plan to acquire Future Group became public knowledge due to a leak from Feite Investment, sparking widespread discussion. Upon learning this, Jiang Wenbin, who was revealed to be seriously ill with little time left, secretly contacted Gu Lingse. They had formed an alliance during their first encounter, aiming to bring down Gu Huaiheng and prevent his hostile takeover of Future Group, thereby protecting Ye Chengshu's company. Meanwhile, news of Dingzhuang Group's acquisition plot spread.
Upon learning that Feite Investment was the source of the leak, Gu Huaiheng was furious. At Future Group, Ye Chengshu's assistant expressed suspicion about Gu Lingse, suggesting she might be feigning help to sow discord between Ye Chengshu and Chairman Jiang. Ye Chengshu, however, dismissed the concerns and decided to speak with Jiang Wenbin directly. Aware of the urgency, Jiang Wenbin called Gu Lingse and asked her to expedite her marriage to Ye Chengshu.
He explained that Gu Huaiheng had seen through his earlier pretenses, making their marriage the only way to stall the acquisition plan. Gu Lingse readily agreed. Soon after, Gu Huaiheng arranged a meeting with Jiang Wenbin at the beach. Unbeknownst to them, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse were secretly observing their conversation.
Gu Huaiheng reminded Jiang Wenbin about a prior agreement made on a yacht and the preparations for a press conference, hinting at a complex relationship between the two rivals. After the meeting, Gu Lingse expressed her hesitation to Ye Chengshu about the sudden marriage, admitting she felt she had no other choice. Ye Chengshu reassured her, emphasizing that their relationship was not about business interests and offering to respect her decision.
Moved by his sincerity, Gu Lingse firmly declared her readiness, stating, "Let's get married now." They sealed their decision with a kiss and later obtained their marriage certificate. Public reaction to their sudden marriage was immediate, with online comments speculating on the reasons behind it. Ming Rixin, having learned that Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse had legally married, broke the news to a distraught Quan Zimo.
She offered him a "Quick Acting Heart Reliever" and advised him that one must let go of the old to embrace the new. She then insisted they take time off to go for drinks. At the bar, a heartbroken Quan Zimo lamented that he had "no hope left at all" now that Gu Lingse was married, while Ming Rixin encouraged him to cherish the present. Ye Chengshu's mother, Yun Piaopiao, affectionately known as Piaopiao, unexpectedly returned to the country.
She playfully confronted Ye Chengshu, annoyed that he hadn't informed her about his marriage. She explained she had been forced to change her phone number frequently due to an "oil magnate" harassing her, making it impossible for Ye Chengshu to reach her. Piaopiao initially expressed strong disapproval of the marriage, particularly because Gu Lingse was from the rival Dingzhuang Group and her father, Gu Huaiheng, was a long-standing opponent.
She even playfully pretended to be a romantic rival upon meeting Gu Lingse, causing a brief misunderstanding. Once the confusion was cleared, Gu Lingse was surprised by Piaopiao's youthful appearance. Piaopiao softened, admitting she found Gu Lingse "lovely" despite her disdain for Gu Huaiheng, whom she called a "bad old guy." While she still cautioned Ye Chengshu, she ultimately assured him she would not interfere with his decisions.
Piaopiao then cooked a special "Ye Family home cooking" meal for the newlyweds, playfully clarifying there was no shrimp, a reference to a previous cooking mishap. During dinner, she revealed she had briefly interrupted her world travels to see them before resuming her adventures. Later that night, Piaopiao took Gu Lingse out clubbing with her "good sisters," where Gu Lingse, initially reserved, eventually got swept up in the festive atmosphere and drank heavily.
Piaopiao brought a very inebriated Gu Lingse home and handed her over to Ye Chengshu. A tipsy Gu Lingse affectionately told Ye Chengshu, "When I'm with you, I'm the happiest," causing Piaopiao to retreat to her room, jokingly unable to bear their sweet talk. Ye Chengshu gently took care of his wife, helping her change and offering her a bitter "sober-up tea."
While in her drunken state, Gu Lingse answered a phone call, chastising the caller as a "disgusting old man" and "boring" before hanging up, presumably rejecting a call from Gu Huaiheng. As Ye Chengshu leaned in for a kiss, Gu Lingse unexpectedly appeared to sober up slightly, wondering aloud about the effectiveness of the sobering tea, much to his playful annoyance. He then lovingly watched her fall asleep.
Episode 10 Recap
Gu Lingse awoke in Ye Chengshu's embrace, feeling shy. As she attempted to rise, he pulled her back playfully. When he teased her about their night together, she declared she would take responsibility for him, before heading to take a shower. Later, Ye Chengshu received confirmation that the preliminary maintenance for the Shizishui project was complete, signaling the official start of its integrated development with Mulin Town. He informed Gu Lingse that the project could now commence.
He felt that standard brochures and video promotions were insufficient, proposing an "immersive experience" where tourists could relive his childhood memories with the villagers. Gu Lingse enhanced the idea by suggesting a live broadcast element to interact with the audience. Ye Chengshu found this idea brilliant, and they decided to draft a plan that eventually won the support of Quan Zimo. Both had to attend to matters at their companies, and Ye Chengshu offered to pick her up later.
Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng made a phone call to Qiuhui, who was in a mental institution. He coaxed her to remain there for a few more days, assuring her he would bring her home once she recovered. Qiuhui, distraught, blamed a woman named Zhou for their separation and expressed relief that Gu Huaiheng still loved her. While in the institution, Qiuhui was seen in an agitated state, trying to leave her room and threatening to buy the entire hospital.
Quan Zimo's assistant informed him that Ye Chengshu had sent the promotion draft. Although Director Ming considered the Shizishui Project highly important and required full cooperation, Quan Zimo dismissed the idea that he would back down. Finding the plan "interesting," he attributed the innovative ideas to Gu Lingse, whom he playfully called a "fox." He decided to personally manage the project. Elsewhere, Quan Zimo teased Ming Rixin about being drunk the night before.
Later, he gave her a document he had "picked up on the road," signaling her return to work with M Group. During a corporate meeting, Director Jiang was updated on the successful overseas "1+3 Project" and the positive reception of their subsidiary brand Yejianzhongdi's press conference. Following the meeting, Ye Chengshu requested to speak privately with Director Jiang, whom he affectionately called "Uncle Jiang," about the Shizishui project's promotion. Ye Chengshu announced an upcoming business trip to Mulin Town.
His secretaries, Bei Chen and Secretary Kim, insisted on accompanying them. Bei Chen declared it his duty as the "perfect secretary" to follow his boss anywhere, which led to immediate bickering with Secretary Kim, who criticized his driving skills. Their constant squabbling became a running theme, exasperating Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse. Upon their arrival in Mulin Town, they met Uncle Su and his son, Zhe Su.
Ye Chengshu proudly introduced Gu Lingse as his wife, much to Uncle Su's delight. Uncle Su congratulated them warmly and expressed his wish for grandchildren. He then showed them traditional clothes worn during the Lantern Festival in his youth. Gu Lingse noticed a wooden hairpin, and Uncle Su shared its romantic history: he had carved it for his wife when they were poor as a symbol of their love. Touched, Gu Lingse asked if other villagers still kept similar items.
The group then visited other villagers and collected old lanterns and traditional clothing to ensure the event would have authentic elements. The group settled into rebuilt villas in Mulin Town that Ye Chengshu had designed. Bei Chen and Secretary Kim immediately started arguing over which villa to occupy. Watching them, Ye Chengshu remarked to Gu Lingse that they acted like "primary pupils on a spring outing," adding that he and Gu Lingse were like a "newly married couple."
Later that evening, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse sought relaxation in a secluded thermal spring. He romantically asked for a kiss, and as their passionate embrace deepened, Bei Chen and Secretary Kim gleefully jumped into the water, completely unaware they were interrupting a private moment. Exasperated, Ye Chengshu declared he would dock their bonuses, causing them to protest before hastily retreating. That night, Gu Lingse stayed with Ye Chengshu as he worked late.
Sensing his nervousness about the event, she offered him encouragement, addressing his professional and personal sides separately. For "Mr. Ye," she advised that some anxiety was healthy for maintaining high standards. For "Chengshu Ye," she simply said, "Take it easy, I got you." They sat together under the starlit sky before she went to rest. Alone, Ye Chengshu began to secretly carve a wooden hairpin.
He recalled Uncle Su's story about the hairpin he had made for his wife and, inspired, worked meticulously, planning to give his own handcrafted hairpin to Gu Lingse as a surprise. The next day, Quan Zimo arrived in Mulin Town with Ming Rixin. Ming Rixin, struggling in her high heels, complained about walking, so Quan Zimo playfully teased her about her "short legs" before carrying her up the path. They joined the others, with Quan Zimo congratulating the couple but playfully refusing to give them his "blessing."
Episode 11 Recap
Tourist representatives arrived as planned and, led by Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse, explored the bamboo forest walkway at Shi Zi Shui with great enjoyment. Ye Chengshu then suggested they continue their tour by heading down to Mulin County. Both the tourists and the online audience for the live broadcast expressed excitement. However, upon seeing Mulin County, the tourists were visibly disappointed. The historical significance and ancient architecture of the town failed to capture their interest.
Despite Ye Chengshu's efforts to explain the unique artistry of local woodcarving, which he revealed was integral to Shi Zi Shui’s design, and his promise of other activities including a special lantern show, their enthusiasm waned. Many of the visitors, whom Yun Piaopiao criticized for being ungrateful, decided to leave early, forcing the live broadcast to be cut. News of the Mulin County live broadcast's failure quickly spread online, becoming a trending topic.
Despite the setback, Ye Chengshu, though admitting to frustration, swiftly began to devise a comprehensive plan for the protective restoration and development of Mulin County, recognizing it needed more than just support from Shi Zi Shui. Gu Lingse encouraged him, and when he eventually fell asleep from exhaustion, she tenderly covered him with a blanket. Meanwhile, others like Bei Chen and Secretary Jin continued to prepare the lantern show despite the earlier cancellation of the Mulin County tour.
Gu Lingse called Bei Chen, confirming that the lantern show would proceed and instructed his team to hang all the lanterns throughout Shi Zi Shui. Unbeknownst to Ye Chengshu, Gu Lingse was preparing a surprise for him. That night, as the lantern show was ready, Ye Chengshu was woken by Su Bo and Su Zhe, who urged him to get changed for the event.
Dressed in traditional wedding attire, he turned to see Gu Lingse, also in a beautiful bridal gown, revealing her surprise: their wedding. She told him she had secretly arranged all the decorations, which he admired. The attendees cheered, calling for kisses and a cross-cupped wine ceremony for the newlyweds. During the festivities, Yun Piaopiao, whom both Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse affectionately called "Mom," arrived, expressing her joy at gaining a daughter and promising to always support Gu Lingse.
She then encouraged them to continue their lantern walk. The next morning, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse woke up late, addressing each other as Mr. and Mrs. Ye. Yun Piaopiao called, teasing them for being slow to rise, mentioning that Quan Zimo and the staff had already returned to the company. She also instructed them to come meet her and provided a hand-drawn map. However, as they followed the map, they soon realized they were lost.
Ye Chengshu tried to call Yun Piaopiao, questioning the accuracy of her map, but the call dropped due to poor signal. Before they could backtrack, Gu Lingse spotted a high platform in the distance. Meanwhile, the group waiting for them grew worried. Bei Chen, Secretary Jin, and Jiang Han set out to search for Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse, agreeing to split up and meet back in an hour.
Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse approached the platform, which he vaguely recognized. He soon realized it was the "Star-Plucking Tower," a gift his father had built for him based on a childhood drawing. Gu Lingse was deeply moved by this gesture, praising his father's romantic and faithful spirit. Ye Chengshu then remembered his father had mentioned a treasure box hidden in the tower, containing a precious painting he had drawn.
Climbing to the top, they found a small box holding Ye Chengshu's childhood drawing, which he proudly declared a masterpiece. Below it, he discovered his father’s manuscript. Gu Lingse noted the striking resemblance between the manuscript's design and both a toy his father once gave him and the "Floating Island power display drawing" in their living room.
She urged him to keep the manuscript safe, but Ye Chengshu decided to place it back in its original spot, stating it had been there for over two decades. Realizing the others must be worried, they quickly made their way back. The search party soon found them. Yun Piaopiao expressed her relief and playfully blamed her map for their getting lost. Ye Chengshu jokingly agreed, calling it a "treasure map that leads no one to treasures."
As everyone teased Yun Piaopiao, Jiang Han, who had also been part of the search, returned looking visibly distracted. When asked for his opinion, he simply offered a hesitant, preoccupied response.
Episode 12 Recap
Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse awoke in sweet domesticity before heading to join Yun Piaopiao and other young people who were enjoying tea by the river. On their way to the gathering, the couple became disoriented, leading them to inadvertently discover the Star Picking Terrace. This site was originally built by Ye Nanchuan for his son. Inside, Ye Chengshu found his father's hidden "treasure box."
Among its contents, Gu Lingse immediately recognized the design plans for a new type of residential building, an Ecological Floating Island, which Gu Huaiheng had long desired. However, instead of taking the plans, Gu Lingse urged Ye Chengshu to guard them carefully. Unbeknownst to them, Jiang Han, who was searching for them, stole the design plans after they departed from the terrace. Jiang Han then met with his father, Jiang Wenbin.
Jiang Han subtly brought up the topic of Ye Nanchuan's architectural legacy, particularly the rumored Ecological Floating Island design. Jiang Wenbin dismissed it as a mere rumor, believing such architecture to be impossible. Jiang Han persisted, asking if his father would build it if he had the design, and suggesting that with the design, the Jiang family would no longer be seen as merely following in Ye Nanchuan's footsteps.
Jiang Wenbin, however, remained firm, stating that even if he possessed the design, he would not give it to Jiang Han. He sternly warned his son to know his place and not covet things that did not belong to him, implicitly favoring Ye Chengshu. Feeling deeply hurt and ignored by his father, Jiang Han angrily questioned if Jiang Wenbin truly regarded him as a son, or if he was merely being compared to Ye Chengshu.
Jiang Wenbin, exasperated, ordered Jiang Han to leave. Later, alone, Jiang Han stared at the "Floating Island Ye Nanchuan" inscription on the stolen design, furious and frustrated that his father saw everything he did as wrong. Later, Jiang Han received a phone call from Chairman Jiang, who requested an urgent evaluation report on the Shizishui project to determine its feasibility. Jiang Han recognized this as another task intended to benefit Ye Chengshu.
Meanwhile, Gu Lingse woke up, having forgotten to turn off her alarm, and informed Ye Chengshu that she had to go to the company and then to Tomorrow Cooperation for a hotel project. Ye Chengshu, however, insisted she postpone all her work for "marital leave." Gu Lingse happily complied, rescheduling her appointments, while her secretary, Bei Chen, was left alone at the office, juggling multiple calls and lamenting the heavy workload.
Ye Chengshu then took Gu Lingse to his personal "secret base," a quiet place called Yofun Dongshan Sea. There, he made a special gesture, intertwining their hands, a symbolic sharing of their rediscovered future together. Jiang Han, fueled by resentment, approached Gu Huaiheng, presenting him with Ye Nanchuan's design notes for the Ecological Floating Island. Gu Huaiheng confirmed their authenticity.
Jiang Han offered to give him all the designs in time, outlining his conditions for cooperation: he would be the chief designer of the floating island project, and he would work with Gu Huaiheng from within Future Cooperation to bring the company down. Gu Huaiheng, initially wary of the risks, demanded five percent of Dingzhuang Group's stock and assurance of Jiang Han's loyalty.
To seal their alliance and demonstrate his commitment, Jiang Han proposed marriage to Gu Peiya, ensuring that Future Cooperation's stocks would eventually fall into Gu Huaiheng's hands. Gu Huaiheng, impressed by Jiang Han's ruthlessness, agreed to the partnership. Jiang Han then pressed for Dingzhuang's next move, and Gu Huaiheng revealed their plan was to acquire Future Cooperation outright. Gu Huaiheng warned Jiang Han against betrayal. Gu Peiya later confronted Jiang Han, having overheard the discussion with her father.
She excitedly discussed the plan to acquire Future Cooperation, confirming that 51 percent of its stocks would be theirs after the bet-on agreement deadline. She dismissed concerns about liquidity, believing the floating island project would attract ample investment. Gu Peiya expressed her disdain for Ye Chengshu, but admitted Jiang Han was "not bad" after hearing his ambitious plans, and then kissed him. At a board meeting, Jiang Wenbin questioned the unusual rise in the company's stock market.
Two executives attempted to flatter Gu Huaiheng, attributing the success to his leadership. Jiang Wenbin, however, saw through their attempts and sarcastically advised them to retire if they couldn't discern abnormal market behavior, warning them against their tricks. Shortly after, these same executives called Gu Huaiheng, reporting Jiang Wenbin's anger at the meeting. Gu Huaiheng dismissed their concerns, telling them to pretend ignorance, and then confidently declared that it was time for the floating island project to become public.
News channels soon announced that Dingzhuang Group was releasing the design for the Ecological Floating Island, hailing it as a revolutionary new ecological housing design. Watching the news, Ye Chengshu confirmed that it was his father's design and that Dingzhuang Group had plagiarized it. His mother, Yun Piaopiao, acknowledged Gu Huaiheng's ruthlessness but questioned how he obtained the manuscript, as Ye Chengshu himself had only discovered it days prior.
Ye Chengshu admitted that besides himself, only Gu Lingse had seen the manuscript. Yun Piaopiao then voiced suspicions about Gu Lingse, given her relationship with Gu Huaiheng, despite Ye Chengshu's defense of his wife's character. Furious that Gu Huaiheng had published the design prematurely, Jiang Han rushed to confront him, but was met by Gu Huaiheng's assistant, who implied that Jiang Han's impatience had compromised their plans and questioned his reliability.
Still, Jiang Han insisted that Dingzhuang Group would deliver on its promises. Meanwhile, Gu Lingse rushed to Ye Chengshu, vehemently denying any involvement in the design leak. She insisted that she had no knowledge of her father's actions and would never help him, suggesting that Jiang Wenbin would be well aware of the situation.
Episode 13 Recap
After Gu Huaiheng unilaterally released the blueprint for the new residential project, Jiang Wenbin wrongly accused Gu Lingse of leaking it, strategically concealing that Jiang Han was the actual culprit. To prove her innocence, Gu Lingse revealed to Ye Chengshu that she had been aware of the Ecological Floating Island project for a while and that Gu Huaiheng had initially intended for her to use her connection with Ye Chengshu to acquire the designs.
She clarified that her decision to marry Ye Chengshu was her own and that she intended to support him. However, Jiang Wenbin remained distrustful, accusing Gu Lingse of aiding Gu Huaiheng against Future Group and questioning her loyalty. Ye Chengshu intervened, prompting Jiang Wenbin to rebuke him for defending Gu Lingse and betraying Ye Nanchuan’s legacy. To safeguard Gu Lingse, Ye Chengshu publicly feigned displeasure, declaring her and her family unwelcome at Future Group and having her escorted out.
Privately, however, he reassured her of his trust and urged her to return home, promising to follow soon. Feeling dejected, Gu Lingse returned to the Gu family residence. There, Gu Peiya mocked her about being rejected by Ye Chengshu. Gu Huaiheng quickly summoned Gu Lingse to his study, commenting that she had come back after experiencing difficulties outside.
Gu Lingse affirmed her return, stating she had realized her previous approach to fight Future Group was wrong and would now take a more direct route. Gu Huaiheng warned her that this was her sole chance to rectify her path, to which Gu Lingse acknowledged her understanding and declared her readiness to take charge of the project now that the blueprints were secured. Gu Huaiheng then instructed her to host the upcoming press conference.
He imparted his belief that love is fleeting and only interests endure, a sentiment Gu Lingse acknowledged as consistent with their family's philosophy. Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu clarified to Jiang Wenbin that his public rejection of Gu Lingse was a strategic maneuver to shield her from Gu Huaiheng's machinations and eliminate any opportunities for his adversary.
Jiang Wenbin then recounted the founding of Future Group, detailing how he, Ye Nanchuan, and Gu Huaiheng had established it after college, driven by shared dreams. The company flourished thanks to Ye Nanchuan's innovative designs until Gu Huaiheng became fixated on the "Garden in the Air" project. Despite Ye Nanchuan's concerns about its safety and calls to build on their existing strengths, Gu Huaiheng, as the chief designer, forcefully pushed the project forward.
The "Garden in the Air" ultimately collapsed during construction, and Ye Nanchuan suffered severe injuries while saving others. Gu Huaiheng capitalized on the disaster by selling all his shares in Future Group and establishing Dingzhuang Group. Upon learning the full story, Ye Chengshu was incensed and resolved to avenge his father's suffering.
Ye Chengshu also made arrangements for his mother, Yun Piaopiao, to go abroad for a relaxing trip, recognizing that she would be under immense stress amidst the escalating corporate conflict. Yun Piaopiao expressed her firm belief in Gu Lingse's good nature, but Ye Chengshu gently explained the situation's complexity, assuring his mother that he would manage everything and requesting her continued support. At the subsequent press conference, Gu Lingse confidently unveiled the "Ecological Floating Island" as a groundbreaking residential concept.
She described it as a sophisticated system that integrated nature and intelligence, moving beyond traditional ground-based architecture. Observing her presentation, Ye Chengshu realized it was time to execute his counter-plan. Later that evening, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu met privately. Ye Chengshu, still concerned, attempted to explain his earlier actions as a protective measure and hinted at inherent flaws in the floating island project.
However, aware that her father’s bodyguards were monitoring her, Gu Lingse was forced to feign a cold demeanor. She asserted that the project was Dingzhuang Group's concern and her definitive decision, then likened their rivalry to a motorcycle race where only opponents exist and only one winner can emerge—a clear declaration of war. Understanding her predicament, Ye Chengshu acknowledged and respected her stance.
News quickly spread that Gu Lingse had acquired a controlling 51% stake in Future Group, making her its largest shareholder. She promptly arrived at Future Group's offices, announcing her new authority to participate in all decisions and initiate a double audit of ongoing projects. During a general shareholder meeting, Ye Chengshu confronted Managers Zhang and Li, who disingenuously claimed innocence regarding the company's predicament. Ye Chengshu subtly implied that everyone present knew who was truly responsible.
Recognizing the critical state of Future Group and honoring his promise to Ye Nanchuan to support Ye Chengshu, Jiang Wenbin publicly offered to transfer all his shares to Ye Chengshu to prevent the company's collapse. Despite Jiang Han's furious protests, Jiang Wenbin formalized the transfer, officially instating Ye Chengshu as the Chairman of Future Group. Jiang Han confronted his father about the decision, but Jiang Wenbin remained resolute, instructing his son to assist Ye Chengshu.
Following the meeting, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu had another brief encounter. Gu Lingse declared that time waits for no one in business and she had no interest in reminiscing about the past. Ye Chengshu reminded her of his previous assurance that their relationship transcended mere profit. As Gu Lingse departed, an intern from the design department, demonstrating fierce loyalty to Ye Chengshu, angrily accosted her.
Gu Lingse calmly instructed her assistant, Beichen, to treat Ye Chengshu with respect, acknowledging his new role as Chairman of Future Group, and then directed the human resources department to arrange an etiquette training class for the company's employees.
Episode 14 Recap
Gu Huaiheng successfully concluded his acquisition, making him the largest shareholder of Future Group. Gu Lingse, representing her father, arrived at Future Group to oversee the liquidation process. Employees expressed immediate concerns about potential layoffs, but Jiang Han attempted to calm them, describing it as a routine procedure. Jiang Han then assigned Su Nian to handle the corporate liaison with Dingzhuang, noting her familiarity with the project documents. Shortly after, Jiang Han privately sold his shares in Future Group.
Gu Huaiheng later praised Gu Lingse for the smooth liquidation and questioned if she had softened her stance towards Ye Chengshu. Gu Lingse affirmed her commitment to the company's best interests. Despite its consistent losses, Gu Lingse instructed her assistant to retain the Mulin Town project and keep it under Ye Chengshu's name, overriding suggestions to postpone it. In a calculated move to deceive Gu Huaiheng, Jiang Wenbin had publicly resigned from the board, feigning a rift with Ye Chengshu.
Unaware of this strategy, Jiang Han's resentment towards Ye Chengshu deepened over his father's perceived favoritism. Believing the internal division was real, directors Zhang Chenfeng and Li Polang reported it to Gu Huaiheng, setting the stage for his next move. Ye Chengshu called an emergency board meeting. Before his arrival, Zhang Chenfeng and Li Polang voiced their frustration, criticizing Ye Chengshu's leadership and accusing him of conducting unproductive meetings.
Upon entering, Ye Chengshu apologized for the hasty summons and presented his "poison pill" plan. He explained that Gu Huaiheng's majority shareholding was the primary threat to Future Group and proposed issuing new stock, which he would subscribe to, to regain majority control. The other directors reacted with strong opposition, viewing it as a self-serving move that would harm their interests, especially after Jiang Wenbin's recent resignation.
Ye Chengshu assured them he would restore their original share proportions after the campaign, but one director bluntly questioned his capability to lead. Capitalizing on the board's dissatisfaction, and acting on Gu Huaiheng's instructions, Zhang Chenfeng and Li Polang moved to oust Ye Chengshu. They argued that the company's performance had suffered since Jiang Wenbin's departure and that a more competent leader was needed. Ye Chengshu accepted the proposal for a vote on his dismissal.
Gu Lingse cast the decisive vote, leading to his removal from the president's office. Immediately following Ye Chengshu's departure, a chaotic scene unfolded as various directors loudly vied for the vacant executive director position. Gu Lingse intervened, announcing that until a suitable executive director was chosen, Dingzhuang Group, as the largest shareholder, would temporarily assume control of Future Group. Some directors realized they had inadvertently facilitated the Gu family's takeover.
News of Ye Chengshu's dismissal, coupled with online rumors of a "Ye-Gu marriage crisis"—suggesting their union was merely a business arrangement headed for divorce—caused the stock prices of both Future Group and Dingzhuang Group to plummet. Alarmed by the market instability, Gu Huaiheng immediately ordered a press conference, demanding both Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu attend. He also instructed his bodyguards to ensure no private contact occurred between them. The fallout was managed on multiple fronts.
Quan Ziming, furious about the derogatory online rumors against Gu Lingse, put his personal feelings about helping his "love rival" aside. He directed his team to manipulate public opinion by circulating exaggerated smear campaigns to create the impression that malicious parties were trying to discredit her. Meanwhile, Gu Huaiheng, demonstrating his cunning, instructed his assistant Dongtang to continue acquiring more shares of Future Group, eager to see what further "tricks these little fleas can play."
Elsewhere, Jiang Wenbin, observing from the sidelines, privately commended Ye Chengshu for his adept handling of the crisis, confirming his resignation was merely a strategic move. At the press conference, with major media outlets present, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu appeared together. Gu Lingse firmly stated that their relationship remained "very stable." When questioned if his resignation was linked to Dingzhuang Group's increased shareholding, Ye Chengshu confirmed it.
Gu Lingse then clarified that Ye Chengshu had full confidence in Dingzhuang Group and chose to step down to pursue his dream of toy design. Ye Chengshu reiterated that his personal dreams were less important than his trust in Gu Lingse and his support for her decisions. He assured the public that despite his departure, he remained a shareholder, and his capabilities would ensure Future Group's stock would continue to thrive. Their united front successfully stabilized the market.
Later, Ye Chengshu managed to evade Gu Huaiheng's bodyguards to speak privately with Gu Lingse. He urgently advised her not to become too entangled in what he termed Dingzhuang Group's "dead game" and offered his full support. Touched by his concern, Gu Lingse affectionately kissed him.
Episode 15 Recap
As public outcry intensified against Dingzhuang Group for "selling a daughter for glory" following its takeover of Future Group, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu were forced to hold a press conference to deny rumors of their marital breakup. Afterwards, an assistant of Ye Chengshu distracted Gu Lingse's bodyguard, Bei Chen, creating a moment for them to speak alone.
Ye Chengshu advised her not to get too deeply involved in Dingzhuang Group's current predicament, which he characterized as a losing game, and assured her that if she needed anything, she could turn to him. Gu Lingse responded by sincerely kissing him, confirming her feelings despite the challenging circumstances they faced. At Future Group, a message began circulating among employees, warning of imminent layoffs following Dingzhuang's takeover and urging them to seek new employment immediately.
Director Jiang Wenbin addressed the anxious staff, acknowledging their concerns. He stated he would not prevent anyone from leaving for better opportunities, assuring them they would remain friends. However, he also pledged to protect the rights of those who chose to stay, promising to take them with him if he were ever to depart Future Group. His words provided some reassurance, prompting several employees to remain. Later, Ye Chengshu, disguised to avoid attention, met with Jiang Han.
Ye Chengshu revealed his plan to financially cripple Gu Huaiheng by shorting Future Group, thereby cutting off its capital chain and driving it into bankruptcy. He requested Jiang Han's help in preparing a press release that would declare the eco-floating island project's design as a mere concept, lacking any practical significance. Jiang Han initially voiced skepticism, arguing that modern scientific advancements could overcome previous technical hurdles.
However, Ye Chengshu clarified that while powerful magnetic forces could theoretically achieve buoyancy, such a field would lethally affect all living organisms, rendering the project impractical. He also highlighted unresolved issues concerning wind and earthquake prevention. Convinced, Jiang Han agreed to draft the press release. As soon as Ye Chengshu departed, Jiang Han's friendly demeanor dissipated, replaced by a sinister expression.
Gu Huaiheng, meanwhile, was pressing forward with the acquisition of Future Group, instructing Bei Chen to lead a Dingzhuang management team to take over its operations in an irregular early transfer. Gu Huaiheng assured Bei Chen that he would handle any trouble that arose. Concurrently, Gu Lingse visited her mother, Mu Qiuhui, at the sanatorium, bringing a pair of high heels as a gift from Gu Huaiheng.
Mu Qiuhui, suffering from knee problems, could not wear them, a detail that underscored Gu Huaiheng's lack of genuine consideration. During her visit, Gu Lingse encountered Mr. Zhao, another patient who appeared remarkably lucid. Later, she overheard Mr. Zhao advising someone against investing in Future Group stock, explaining that its rising price was deliberate speculation designed to trap a target before an inevitable crash. Concerned, Gu Lingse contacted her associate, Uncle Fu, asking him to investigate Mr. Zhao.
Mu Qiuhui experienced a vivid and distressing memory of a woman, who claimed to have been with Gu Huaiheng for years, confronting her. This woman boasted that Gu Huaiheng was destined for prison and that she could both save him and advance his career, all while dismissing Mu Qiuhui as nothing more than an obstacle. She also issued a thinly veiled threat regarding Mu Qiuhui's daughter.
In a calculated move, Ye Chengshu arranged for Future Group employees to provoke the hot-tempered Bei Chen. As planned, when Bei Chen led the Dingzhuang management team to Future Group for the early takeover, employees from the marketing department confronted them. In the heated exchange that Ye Chengshu had engineered, Bei Chen reacted angrily to a provocation and physically struck an employee.
This incident quickly escalated into a staged mass resignation, with employees declaring their inability to work under such "hooliganism." The event successfully solidified Dingzhuang Group's public image as tyrannical, creating widespread unease and causing its reputation to collapse. Later that evening, Gu Lingse was having dinner at Ye Chengshu's house when she received a call about the public relations disaster. She immediately rushed back to her family home, where a furious Gu Huaiheng intended to fire Bei Chen.
Gu Lingse intervened, arguing that dismissing Bei Chen would be an admission of guilt. Instead, she proposed blaming Future Group's employees, presenting evidence that they were already job-hunting and had intentionally caused trouble. To divert public attention, she suggested fully launching the eco-floating island project and offered to personally handle securing investments. She urged Gu Huaiheng to continue purchasing Future Group shares to stabilize the stock price.
Driven by the opportunity to decisively defeat his rival Jiang Wenbin, Gu Huaiheng agreed to her plan. Grateful for her intervention, Bei Chen pledged his unwavering allegiance to Gu Lingse. Concurrently, Ye Chengshu arranged a meeting with Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang. He calmly informed them that he possessed comprehensive evidence of their past betrayals and the kickbacks they had received. He then offered them a proposition: if they agreed to assist him with a specific task, he would overlook their past transgressions.
Episode 16 Recap
Having obtained evidence of them leaking business secrets, Ye Chengshu coerced Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang into persuading other shareholders to sell their shares in Future Corporation. At a shareholder meeting, they created a panic by spreading rumors that Gu Huaiheng intended to crush the company. This led to a mass sell-off, pushing Future Corporation to the brink of bankruptcy.
To stabilize the plummeting stock price, Gu Huaiheng, as the largest shareholder, was forced to buy all the available shares, a move that severely drained Dingzhuang Group's cash flow. Around the same time, Gu Lingse signed a VAM agreement with a partner, promising on behalf of Dingzhuang Group to return 200 percent of the principal after one year.
The agreement also stipulated a return of 150 percent of the deposit immediately if the project terminated due to Dingzhuang Group's fault during the contract period. Shortly after, Gu Huaiheng called Gu Lingse, instructing her to visit Feite Venture Capital and secure a partnership with Mr. Duan before Ye Chengshu could. However, when Ye Chengshu later arrived at Feite Venture Capital, an assistant informed him that they had already partnered with Dingzhuang Group, leaving him frustrated.
Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu had instructed Jiang Han to prepare and widely disseminate a paper exposing serious safety risks in the Floating Eco-Island project. This was timed to coincide with Dingzhuang Group's press conference for the project. During the conference, news reports about the safety hazards surfaced, with journalists pointing out that the same design flaw had led to the collapse of the Sky Attic, a project designed by Ye Nanchuan.
They questioned why Dingzhuang Group was hiding this information, forcing Gu Lingse to abruptly end the conference. Confronted by Jiang Wenbin about implicating Ye Nanchuan, Jiang Han argued that it was necessary to portray Ye Nanchuan as fallible to effectively attack the project. Jiang Wenbin, deeply upset by the mention of past events, began coughing severely. Unbeknownst to many, Ye Chengshu had been steadily acquiring shares of Dingzhuang Group, aiming to take control after Gu Huaiheng's downfall.
This long-term strategy was rooted in the past: Ye Nanchuan, Jiang Wenbin, and Gu Huaiheng were once partners in a startup. Driven by greed, Gu Huaiheng had wrested control from Ye Nanchuan, ultimately establishing Dingzhuang Group. Ye Chengshu saw this as an opportunity to reclaim what rightfully belonged to his father. A news broadcast soon announced a joint statement from domestic investment banks, declaring a complete blockade on investment into Dingzhuang Group.
Upon hearing this, and recalling Gu Lingse's earlier actions with Feite Venture Capital and the VAM agreement, Ye Chengshu realized she was intentionally weakening Gu Huaiheng and Dingzhuang Group, effectively helping him. He was deeply moved by her silent support. True to his realization, Gu Lingse proceeded to compensate the partners according to the VAM agreement, disbursing all of Dingzhuang Group's remaining cash and leaving Gu Huaiheng with no funds to purchase new shares to bolster the company.
Desperate, Gu Huaiheng ordered his assistant, Dong Tang, to bring Qiu Hui to him. Dong Tang convinced Qiu Hui it was her birthday and Gu Huaiheng had a surprise for her. When she insisted on Gu Huaiheng picking her up personally, Dong Tang forcibly took her. Upon seeing Gu Huaiheng, Qiu Hui was overjoyed.
Gu Huaiheng then presented her with a document, deceptively telling her to sign it so they could go home and claiming he would be "in danger" if she didn't. Though Qiu Hui initially hesitated, recalling Gu Huaiheng's past warnings against signing documents randomly, she ultimately signed to protect him. Shortly after, Ye Chengshu and Zhao Guobang, also known as Feite Zhao from Feite Venture Capital and a long-time admirer of Qiu Hui, arrived to confront Gu Huaiheng for repayment.
Ye Chengshu had previously met with Zhao Guobang, convincing him to agree that when Dingzhuang Group ran out of cash, all investment banks should withhold support. Gu Huaiheng, unashamed and arrogant, produced the contract Qiu Hui had signed, declaring that she was now responsible for the debt and that he would never be defeated. Enraged, Zhao Guobang called Gu Huaiheng a "beast" and threatened him for harming Qiu Hui.
Before the confrontation could escalate further, the police arrived and arrested Gu Huaiheng, informing him he was suspected of economic disputes and needed to cooperate with their investigation. Gu Huaiheng scoffed, dismissing their claims as slander and demanding proof.
Episode 17 Recap
After the safety risks of the Floating Island project were exposed, Dingzhuang Group's capital chain broke, and Fete Venture Capital demanded immediate fulfillment of their gambling agreement. Gu Huaiheng then realized that Zhao Guobang, the chairman of Fete Venture Capital, was also Mu Qiuhui's former lover. Witnessing Mu Qiuhui's suffering at Gu Huaiheng's hands, Zhao Guobang began helping Gu Lingse to bring down Gu Huaiheng. Gu Lingse confronted Gu Huaiheng, accusing him of manipulating the market and forging contracts.
She reminded him that twenty years prior, he had forged Ye Nanchuan’s seal, laying the blame for the Hanging Garden collapse entirely on Ye Nanchuan, unaware that her mother, Mu Qiuhui, had hidden the original contract Gu Huaiheng had signed. Gu Huaiheng philosophized about the ruthlessness required in business, suggesting Gu Lingse was becoming like him, but she vehemently denied it.
Gu Peiya angrily lashed out at Gu Lingse for betraying their father, but Gu Lingse retorted that Gu Huaiheng was only Gu Peiya's father. Gu Huaiheng then pleaded with Gu Lingse to spare Gu Peiya, claiming his daughter was innocent. Gu Lingse agreed, but only on the condition that Gu Huaiheng publicly confess all his past misdeeds.
In his confession, Gu Huaiheng admitted that he had disregarded Ye Nanchuan's warnings about the incomplete blueprint for the Hanging Garden, leading to its collapse. Facing career ruin and imprisonment, he turned to Zhou Meilan, who offered to save him through her father's influence if he married her. Despite his relationship with Mu Qiuhui, Gu Huaiheng agreed. Zhou Meilan then confronted Mu Qiuhui, showing her photographic evidence of her relationship with Gu Huaiheng.
She taunted Mu Qiuhui, revealing that Gu Huaiheng was facing jail time and that only she could save him, while Mu Qiuhui was merely a hindrance, and subtly threatened Gu Lingse. Gu Huaiheng manipulated Mu Qiuhui, feigning helplessness and claiming Zhou Meilan was forcing him. He convinced Mu Qiuhui to divorce him and go into hiding, promising to remarry her once the situation stabilized.
Shortly after, at his wedding to Zhou Meilan, guests gossiped about Mu Qiuhui, calling her a "vixen" and Gu Lingse an "illegitimate child." A young Gu Lingse bravely defended her mother, only to be chastised by Zhou Meilan and ignored by Gu Huaiheng. He concluded his confession by stating that marrying Zhou Meilan had indeed saved him from prison and boosted his career. Upon hearing the full truth, Mu Qiuhui, who was present, collapsed.
News reports confirmed Gu Huaiheng's arrest for economic crimes, including market manipulation and contract forgery. As he was being taken away, Zhou Meilan and Gu Peiya tearfully bid him farewell. Gu Huaiheng instructed Gu Peiya to always keep an item named "Xiba" with her, claiming it could save her life, and told her to relay a message to Jiang Han: his wife and daughter, along with his company, were now in Jiang Han's care.
Later, Gu Peiya, distraught by her home being raided by authorities, called Jiang Han, who promised to pick her up. In an internal monologue, Jiang Han resigned himself to executing Gu Huaiheng's plan to take down Future Group, confirming he had been forced into collusion. At the hospital, Mu Qiuhui awoke with her memory regressed to the age of eighteen, calling Gu Lingse "sister."
Doctors informed Gu Lingse and Zhao Guobang that she was suffering from severe post-traumatic stress disorder, requiring hospitalization, drug treatment, psychological intervention, and absolute quiet. Zhao Guobang, deeply concerned, offered to pay for an entire floor to ensure her recovery, but Gu Lingse calmed him, promising to stay by Mu Qiuhui's side. Shortly after, Mu Qiuhui disappeared from her hospital room.
Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu received an urgent call about a general shareholder meeting at Dingzhuang Group, where Gu Huaiheng was suspected of still pulling strings. He rushed to the company, assuring Gu Lingse he would return quickly. Upon arriving, Ye Chengshu and Jiang Wenbin found Jiang Han announcing himself as the acting chairman of Dingzhuang Group. Jiang Wenbin furiously questioned his authority, but Jiang Han brazenly claimed the Floating Island design as his own.
A board member supported Jiang Han, and overcome with rage, Jiang Wenbin collapsed. Doctors revealed that Jiang Wenbin had a brain angioma that had ruptured due to his strong emotions, and his recovery was uncertain. Jiang Han then violently confronted Ye Chengshu, blaming him for his father's condition and accusing him of convincing his father to refuse treatment. Six months later, a news report summarized the recent shake-up at Dingzhuang Group.
Following Gu Huaiheng's arrest, Jiang Han, formerly Future Group's design director, had joined Dingzhuang Group and become its largest shareholder. Gu Lingse, the former chairman, had mysteriously vanished, and her shares were now held by her husband, Ye Chengshu, making him the second-largest shareholder. Dingzhuang Group had since transformed its business, focusing on urban infrastructure and renewal. Ye Chengshu, now a manager at Dingzhuang, continued to search for Gu Lingse, aware that she might be deliberately avoiding him.
His assistant noted his exhaustion from the relentless search. Back at the company, during a quarterly planning meeting, a rival manager pointed out that a project under Ye Chengshu's charge had been officially abandoned. Ye Chengshu calmly replied that it was completed the day before, prompting the manager to sarcastically praise him as a "talent spotter" for salvaging it. The meeting then shifted to the renovation project of Yushan Street.
It was revealed that six months prior, "out-of-towners" had helped residents negotiate for five times the standard relocation compensation, a deal that residents now found insufficient, demanding ten times the price for their properties.
Episode 18 Recap
Six months have passed since Mu Qiuhui disappeared from the hospital, and Gu Lingse has also vanished without a trace, leaving Ye Chengshu searching for them without success. During this time, Dezhuang Group has been jointly managed by Jiang Han and Ye Chengshu, leading to frequent clashes between them, particularly during board meetings. Ye Chengshu expressed keen interest in an old city renovation project in Yushan Street, a typical "urban village" whose existence conflicted with the city's development plans.
To secure the bid for this project, the company first needed to obtain signed consent forms from the Yushan Street residents. Wanting to take the initiative, Ye Chengshu made a pledge to the board, vowing to resign if he failed to secure the project. At a board meeting to discuss the project, Gu Lingse made a surprise appearance, negotiating on behalf of the Yushan Street residents.
She pointed out the street's strategic location near a new international airport, a planned Maglev station, and a Sub-CBD, predicting that Yushan Street would become the most competitive spot within five years. Consequently, she demanded a compensation package ten times the standard amount. A company representative reacted with disdain, calling her presumptuous. Jiang Han opined that the residents were merely after money and that simply paying them would suffice, though he noted ten times the compensation was excessive.
Ye Chengshu, however, reiterated his commitment, asking about the bidding deadline and stating his intention to personally inspect Yushan Street to secure the project. In a sarcastic tone, Jiang Han reminded Ye Chengshu of the serious consequences should he fail, inquiring about the company's policy for employees who cause significant damage, implying termination. Meanwhile, Ming Rixin received a call from her brother, who relayed their parents' wish for her to return home permanently to take over their overseas business.
Ming Rixin then directly asked Quan Zimo if he wanted her to stay. Quan Zimo, however, avoided giving a direct answer, stating that he did not want to interfere with her personal decisions, which left her feeling unheard and frustrated. Ye Chengshu continued his work, ignoring concerns from his secretary, who noticed him drinking coffee despite a recent stomachache.
He reviewed information on the Yushan Street project and discussed his plan for a "Shi Zi Shui and Mulin County" collaboration, aiming for a positive development cycle. He then instructed his secretary to deliver a new proposal to Jiang Han. Ye Chengshu’s secretary voiced her worries about the high-risk Yushan Street project, noting that Jiang Han had rejected similar proposals multiple times.
Ye Chengshu explained that he needed "extra force" and saw Su Nian, a director from Mulin County who currently worked with Jiang Han, as a good candidate to help. He remained firm in his decision to personally inspect Yushan Street, preferring to take a bold risk to regain his influence within the company rather than merely following orders.
He acknowledged the challenges, such as the large elderly population and outsiders wary of developers, but assured his secretary he had a plan. Before heading to Yushan Street, Ye Chengshu visited Jiang Wenbin in the hospital. He confided in the unconscious Jiang Wenbin, informing him about the new project that would require him to travel, meaning fewer visits.
Ye Chengshu expressed his deep sadness over how things had changed, longing for the days when Jiang Wenbin was healthy, Gu Lingse was still around, and Jiang Han had not strayed. He blamed himself, wishing he had been mature enough to handle company affairs, believing it might have prevented the current misfortunes. Feeling alone and weary, he admitted his struggles. Concurrently, Director Su Nian presented Ye Chengshu's "Shi Zi Shui Project" plan to Jiang Han, who immediately dismissed it.
He then abruptly fired his assistant, declared "I'm the boss," and expressed his intent to personally develop Mulin County, instructing Su Nian to assist him and provide all information about Yushan Street. Later, Gu Peiya visited Jiang Han at work, bringing him his favorite rib soup and expressing concern about his long hours. Jiang Han thanked her for taking care of him and his mother, and she left him a heartfelt note wishing him a happy day.
Meanwhile, in Yushan Street, Mu Qiuhui, whose memory had regressed to her eighteen-year-old self, lived a peaceful life with Gu Lingse and Bei Chen. She affectionately called Bei Chen "Uncle Zhao" and eagerly awaited the return of "Brother Zhao," unaware that Bei Chen "was" Brother Zhao. Though saddened that she didn't recognize him, Bei Chen was content to be "Uncle Zhao" as long as she was happy. Ye Chengshu, disguised, arrived in Yushan Street for his inspection.
The street's director, Meng Xiangqian, noticed Ye Chengshu's suspicious behavior and questioned him. Ye Chengshu feigned being there to rent a place, but Meng Xiangqian saw through the lie, suspecting him of being a developer's representative, and tried to engage him in a private discussion. Soon, a group of real estate agents arrived, displaying appealing blueprints for a "New Yushan Street" and promising residents new homes without demolition, along with resettlement fees.
Bei Chen tried to intervene, calling the agent a "fraud," but the residents mistook him for a rival company's shill. Ye Chengshu, witnessing the scene, stepped forward. He expertly exposed the sand samples as low-quality, washed-out construction waste with severe safety hazards. He then pointed out the glaring inconsistencies in their generic blueprint, highlighting how it failed to account for Yushan Street's unique funnel shape. Realizing they were con artists, the residents turned on the agents.
The infuriated head agent attempted to strike Ye Chengshu, who cleverly used the moment to embrace Gu Lingse, who had appeared in the crowd. Bei Chen immediately intervened to fend off the agent's associates, while Gu Lingse seemed momentarily intrigued by Ye Chengshu's sudden reappearance.
Episode 19 Recap
As residents of Yushan Street confronted real estate scammers, the scammers' bosses, Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang, arrived. Upon recognizing Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse, they quickly made their excuses and departed. The locals, distrustful of developers, were suspicious of Ye Chengshu’s presence. Gu Lingse quickly intervened, reassuring them that Ye Chengshu was merely a friend visiting.
She then advised Ye Chengshu that the community harbored strong prejudices against developers and suggested he avoid coming to Yushan Street without a pressing reason. Noticing a stain on his clothes, Gu Lingse offered to take him to Uncle Zhao’s house for a change. Ye Chengshu accepted and followed her. At Uncle Zhao’s home, after Ye Chengshu changed, Uncle Zhao astutely deduced Ye Chengshu's true interest in Gu Lingse.
Ye Chengshu clarified that while he was officially in the area for a project inspection, his primary motivation was to be near Gu Lingse’s mother, Mu Qiuhui, and aid her recovery. Uncle Zhao then took Ye Chengshu for a walk around the neighborhood. During their stroll, Uncle Zhao encouraged Ye Chengshu to pursue Gu Lingse, praising her kind personality and attractive looks. Soon after, Mu Qiuhui appeared.
Mu Qiuhui, suffering from a fragile mental state and memory impairment, saw Ye Chengshu wearing Uncle Zhao's old clothes. She became excited, mistaking him for Uncle Zhao from their youth, whom she affectionately called "Brother Zhao." Uncle Zhao initially tried to deflect her, concerned about how this might affect her delicate condition, and subtly urged Ye Chengshu to leave. However, Gu Lingse, understanding her mother's vulnerable state, quietly signaled to Ye Chengshu to humor her.
Ye Chengshu, recognizing the need to maintain calm, agreed to be "Brother Zhao," much to Mu Qiuhui’s delight. Overjoyed, she insisted he stay for dinner and eagerly began preparing his favorite spicy dishes. Meanwhile, Quan Zimo, observing Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse from a distance, muttered to himself that Ye Chengshu, whom he considered a mere "toy boy," was not a suitable partner for his "boss."
He believed she deserved someone more capable, someone who possessed both intellect and strength, like himself. Back at the dinner table, Mu Qiuhui proudly presented the spicy meal. Ye Chengshu, who suffered from a gastric ulcer and could not tolerate spicy food, bravely tried to eat the dishes to uphold the pretense. However, his discomfort was undeniable. Mu Qiuhui soon noticed his aversion to spice, realizing this contradicted the true "Brother Zhao's" preferences. She became agitated, accusing him of deception.
Gu Lingse swiftly intervened, comforting her mother and leading her away to rest. Seizing the opportunity, Uncle Zhao reiterated his demand for Ye Chengshu to leave, emphasizing his concern for Mu Qiuhui's unstable mental health. Ye Chengshu explained that he was committed to helping her recover and had already consulted PTSD experts. He even made a call to his assistant, Quan Zimo, asking him to urgently find a specialist to develop a formal treatment plan.
Despite this, Uncle Zhao insisted he depart, fearing any further disruption. Ye Chengshu, though disheartened, acknowledged Uncle Zhao's concerns. As he was being walked out, he disclosed his true intention to secure the Yushan Street reconstruction project, explaining that he would be staying nearby regardless. Uncle Zhao warned him that the residents were notoriously difficult and that redeveloping the street would put him at odds with Gu Lingse.
Suddenly, Ye Chengshu clutched his stomach in pain, his gastric ulcer flaring up. Gu Lingse, who had overheard their conversation, rushed to his side. She was distressed to learn he had just been discharged from the hospital for the same condition and had deliberately eaten the spicy food to avoid upsetting her mother. Concerned, Gu Lingse implored Uncle Zhao to allow Ye Chengshu to stay for the night.
Though hesitant, Uncle Zhao eventually agreed and went to find medicine for him. Gu Lingse helped Ye Chengshu into a room, gently scolding him for neglecting his health. He explained his condition was a result of his busy, solitary life and, most importantly, her sudden disappearance. As she prepared to leave, Ye Chengshu tried to stop her, but she insisted he take his medicine and rest.
In a separate matter, Quan Zimo learned that a wealthy heir named Li Er from the Li Group was pursuing Ming Rixin. Enraged, Quan Zimo instructed his assistant to immediately release all compromising information about Li Er to the public, expressing a desire for Li Er to seek direct revenge against him. Concurrently, Jiang Han had his men apprehend Zhang Chengfeng and Li Polang.
He presented them with their old account book, revealing their past fraudulent activities and threatening them with imprisonment. Jiang Han pressed them for information about a hidden camera from his previous meeting with Gu Huaiheng. Eager to secure their release, they suggested that Gu Huaiheng's youngest daughter, Gu Peiya, might possess such information. Once they had divulged what they knew, Jiang Han allowed them to leave.
Immediately afterwards, Jiang Han contacted the police, providing them with the incriminating evidence of the pair's scams, referring to it as a "grand gift." The following morning, Ye Chengshu was engrossed in preparing a "Project Book for the Overall Reconstruction of Yushan Street." Uncle Zhao brought him breakfast but reiterated that Ye Chengshu still needed to leave, as his resemblance to a young "Brother Zhao" was destabilizing Mu Qiuhui. In response, Ye Chengshu formally presented his comprehensive "Rehabilitation Plan for Mu Qiuhui," outlining a strategy to gradually rebuild her trust and help her confront and overcome her forgotten traumas.
Episode 20 Recap
A psychologist consulted by Ye Chengshu suggested a treatment plan for Mu Qiuhui, emphasizing the need to approach her recovery through familiar people and events to encourage her to leave Yushan Street and overcome her psychological barriers. Initially, Zhao Guobang vehemently opposed Ye Chengshu's involvement, concerned about further traumatizing Mu Qiuhui. He dismissed Ye Chengshu, instructing him to refer to Mu Qiuhui as "auntie" instead of "mom."
Ye Chengshu explained that for patients like Mu Qiuhui, rebuilding trust in the outside world and gradually recovering memories was the most effective therapy. Despite Gu Lingse's attempts to advocate for Ye Chengshu, expressing worry about her mother's escalating anxiety symptoms, Zhao Guobang remained firm, ordering Ye Chengshu to leave.
However, upon learning that the psychologist specifically recommended the "Brother Zhao" identity (which Mu Qiuhui had mistakenly attributed to Ye Chengshu) as a key to rebuilding Mu Qiuhui's confidence, Zhao Guobang softened. Gu Lingse called him to reiterate the psychologist's advice, and Zhao Guobang eventually agreed to let Ye Chengshu stay.
Ye Chengshu, ecstatic at the news, shared with Gu Lingse his architectural vision for Yushan Street, aiming for protective development and renovation rather than demolition, promising to ensure every resident received a better home. Gu Lingse, knowing her mother could not leave the street, pledged to help him persuade the residents.
Meanwhile, Mu Qiuhui's beloved novel was re-released, and Bei Chen, after queuing all night, not only purchased a copy but also received a coveted ticket to the author's signing session. Ye Chengshu saw this as an opportunity and, along with Gu Lingse and Zhao Guobang, encouraged Mu Qiuhui to attend, describing the exciting prospect of meeting the author. Mu Qiuhui initially agreed, excited about choosing an outfit.
However, she was later plagued by a vivid nightmare, waking in terror, convinced that "monsters" were pursuing her. Gu Lingse comforted her, reassuring her it was just a dream, while Mu Qiuhui expressed sorrow that she, who once aimed to protect Gu Lingse, now needed protection herself. Realizing Mu Qiuhui's fear was too profound to overcome, Gu Lingse, Ye Chengshu, and Bei Chen decided to attend the signing session on her behalf to buy souvenirs for her.
Concurrently, Jiang Han, driven by a desire to assert his dominance, secretly pressed forward with his "Floating Island Project" in Mulin Town. Despite reports from his subordinates about workers experiencing gum swelling, bleeding, and nausea due to strong magnetic fields, Jiang Han refused to halt operations, merely instructing them to provide more protection and seek medical assistance.
He also tasked his subordinate, Su Nian (revealed to be Gu Peiya, now known as Director Su), with securing the demolition of Yushan Street. Su Nian reported that she had offered ten times the standard compensation to the local sub-district office director, Meng Xiangqian, who readily agreed to persuade the residents. Jiang Han, still intent on outmaneuvering Ye Chengshu, instructed Su Nian to proceed with bidding for the Yushan Street project.
Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu, discussing the generous compensation offer, were concerned about Jiang Han's plan. Gu Lingse reiterated her commitment to her mother's well-being and thus the preservation of Yushan Street, prompting Ye Chengshu to reaffirm his promise that the street would not be demolished. In another development, Gu Peiya was harassed by a man named Liu Yuan from Tengda Real Estate and his female companion at a street crossing.
Jiang Han arrived, intervening and physically assaulting Liu Yuan and his bodyguard. Liu Yuan, recognizing Jiang Han, hastily apologized and attempted to invite him and Gu Peiya to dinner, mentioning his company's upcoming second round of financing. Jiang Han coldly dismissed him, asserting his protective role over Gu Peiya, stating that her father had entrusted her to his care. Gu Peiya questioned if his protection stemmed solely from this duty.
Jiang Han, however, claimed to genuinely feel pain when she was hurt and vowed never to abandon her, embracing her as she expressed her dependence on him. Meanwhile, Quan Zimo's relationship with Ming Rixin fractured further. Fu Kesi, observing Quan Zimo's actions, speculated about his affection for Ming Rixin, noting his calm demeanor regarding Gu Lingse's name being discussed in public.
Ming Rixin confronted Quan Zimo about his decision to expose Li Er (the rich second-generation who had previously shown interest in her), accusing him of acting solely out of concern for Gu Lingse. Quan Zimo conceded he acted for both her and Gu Lingse. Ming Rixin, feeling that Quan Zimo was unable to fully commit to her, asked him one last time if he wanted her to stay in China with him.
When he gave an ambiguous response, she abruptly ended the conversation. Later, Quan Zimo intercepted Ming Rixin in a hallway to try and reconcile. Their conversation was interrupted by an enraged Li Er, who confronted Quan Zimo and struck him. Ming Rixin, trying to shield Quan Zimo, was accidentally hit and knocked unconscious.
Afterward at the hospital, despite Quan Zimo's insistence that she remain for further observation, Ming Rixin confirmed to her father over the phone that she had carefully considered her options and decided to pursue the opportunities presented by the family's overseas business, implicitly severing her ties with Quan Zimo.
At the signing session, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu were with Bei Chen, who was recognized by fans as "that handsome guy" from a previous TV appearance and was trying to avoid being brought on stage. There, they unexpectedly encountered Fu Kesi. Unwilling to attract attention, Gu Lingse immediately grabbed Ye Chengshu's hand and hurried away. Ye Chengshu drove Gu Lingse to a secluded beach, their "secret base" from their first date.
Gu Lingse reflected on how long it had taken them to return. Ye Chengshu confessed to having searched for her for six months after her disappearance, always returning to this spot, unaware she was living so close by. He apologized for his past actions.
Gu Lingse, however, countered that she was the one who should apologize, revealing that after he left the hospital six months prior, her mother had gone missing and was eventually found in Yushan Street in a severely distressed mental state, suffering from daily nightmares and requiring medication to sleep. Gu Lingse explained she felt she couldn't leave her mother in such a vulnerable state. Ye Chengshu gently reassured her that everything would eventually get better.
Gu Lingse then questioned why he hadn't told her about his search, to which he admitted being torn, simultaneously fearing she would stay in Yushan Street and fearing she wouldn't. Gu Lingse noted his tendency to shoulder burdens alone, echoing his handling of her father's past issues, and apologized for not being there for him during his difficult times. Ye Chengshu, in turn, reiterated that he was the one who should apologize. As they embraced, Gu Lingse expressed a profound sense of security in his presence, a feeling Ye Chengshu reciprocated.
Episode 21 Recap
Ye Chengshu proposed a plan to renovate houses in Yushan Street free of charge, aiming to improve residents' living conditions, which included issues like leaky roofs and drafts. However, the street's residents were largely skeptical, viewing his offer with suspicion and questioning his motives.
Lin Xiaohu openly accused Ye Chengshu of having ulterior motives, suggesting his intentions were as deceptive as "a fox visiting a chicken," especially noting a prior visit from a real estate agent who seemed to know Ye Chengshu’s son. Ye Chengshu passionately explained his sincerity, emphasizing his strong desire to create a better living environment in Yushan Street, as some of the most important people in his life resided there.
He invited those who trusted him to sign up for the free renovation. Despite his plea, many residents remained hesitant, with Director Meng preferring to wait for results from other houses before committing. Gu Lingse, offering support, suggested they visit neighbors door-to-door, believing that convincing even one person would gradually lead others to follow suit. Ye Chengshu agreed to devise a new approach. Unexpectedly, Ms. Xu, who owned several old properties in Yushan Street, approached Ye Chengshu.
She surprised him by offering all her houses for renovation without any specific requirements, handing over the keys. This immediate act of trust delighted Ye Chengshu and quickly changed the perception of other residents. Soon after, more street residents, impressed by Ms. Xu's decision, began to approach Ye Chengshu, eagerly asking him to renovate their homes. Meanwhile, Jiang Wenbin's medical condition suddenly deteriorated.
Although stabilized after an emergency operation, a doctor informed Jiang Han that his father's organs were progressively failing, giving him less than a month to live. Overcome with rage and despair, Jiang Han confronted his unconscious father, furious that the Floating Island project remained incomplete and his father had not yet acknowledged his superiority over Ye Chengshu.
He bitterly blamed Jiang Wenbin for turning him into a "monster" and adamantly refused to let him die, ordering his team to keep his father alive at any cost. Later, Jiang Han, visibly distraught and heavily intoxicated, stumbled home. He lashed out at Gu Peiya, pushing her away and crying out to his father, questioning why he never acknowledged him or his efforts, reminding him that he was his son.
Gu Peiya gently comforted him, assuring him that everything would eventually improve. Despite warnings from his project manager about workers being affected by strong magnetic fields and a suggestion to suspend the Floating Island project, Jiang Han, desperate to finish it before his father's impending death, vehemently demanded it be completed within the month, threatening to withhold payment from anyone who failed to comply. Mulin Town experienced earthquake-like tremors as a result of the ongoing, high-risk experiments.
Elsewhere, Piaopiao arrived in Yushan Street and cornered Bei Chen, theatrically accusing him of abandoning her and their supposed child to compel him to reveal Gu Lingse’s whereabouts. Annoyed, Bei Chen eventually led her to Gu Lingse. Piaopiao, Gu Lingse, and Mu Qiuhui then decided to go shopping together. Piaopiao mistook Mu Qiuhui for Zhao Guobang's girlfriend, leading to some amusing clarifications. Mu Qiuhui also presented Zhao Guobang with a handmade gift.
While shopping, Piaopiao and Gu Lingse critiqued Mu Qiuhui's clothing, suggesting she try something new, which she happily agreed to. Later, Zhao Guobang, observing the women, remarked on how quickly they formed friendships. He also proudly tried on the item Mu Qiuhui made for him. Separately, Ming Rixin was discharged from the hospital. She expressed her strong dislike for Quan Zimo, feigning memory loss and repeatedly telling him to leave.
Quan Zimo, confused, initially believed her, but Ming Rixin soon revealed she had not lost her memory, she simply "hated to see" him. She recalled his own advice to her to cherish those around her, then disparaged him as unintelligent, arrogant, and self-centered, stating she would be foolish to fall in love with him. Later, while Ming Rixin and Quan Zimo were on a date, her brother, Mr. Ming, interrupted them.
He demanded they break up immediately, citing a non-existent company policy against office romance. He launched into a tirade against Quan Zimo, criticizing his character and even his height, claiming tall people consume more oxygen and have shorter lives. Ming Rixin, however, firmly stood her ground, declaring her intention to remain with Quan Zimo regardless of her brother's objections.
Seeing her resolve, Mr. Ming relented, acknowledging his sister had grown up, but sternly warned Quan Zimo to take good care of her. Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse continued their door-to-door visits, meticulously gathering residents' needs, which primarily included increasing room counts, separating living and sitting areas, and adding more storage. They identified the primary challenges as the prolonged construction time and the significant expense of temporary housing for residents.
Gu Lingse proposed a solution inspired by the concept of "aerial housing" or a floating island, to create a commercial and residential integrated model within the limited space, thus avoiding large-scale demolition. Ye Chengshu was initially concerned about the health risks associated with living in strong magnetic fields, which he noted was a known issue with floating islands.
Gu Lingse then suggested modifying the concept by incorporating visible supports, like a banyan tree structure, where the complex would be the "crown" and the pillars would function as "roots." Ye Chengshu found this idea ingenious and even "romantic," expressing his eagerness to bring this innovative vision to life. He confessed to being low on energy and asked for her "love to cheer him up."
After their conversation, Gu Lingse decided to return home, and Ye Chengshu offered to accompany her. During this time, Lin Xiaohu, addressing Zhao Guobang, quipped that Zhao had been treated as a "backup" for forty years and shouldn't hinder him. Zhao Guobang, however, reminded him that the last person who used such a term was now in prison, causing Lin Xiaohu to quickly apologize.
Episode 22 Recap
Ye Chengshu was deeply engrossed in his architectural designs for Yushan Street, striving to create a healthy living environment for the residents, including an innovative floating island concept. His intense focus meant he often neglected meals and rest. Gu Lingse, observing his tireless work, frequently checked on him, urging him to take breaks and eat. She even mentioned that he was too busy to eat, just like his father, always consumed by work.
One evening, as Ye Chengshu grappled with design challenges like building overload and weak subgrade, Gu Lingse found him and suggested they take a break, get some sleep, and then go out together, hoping a change of scenery would help him overcome his creative block. Overwhelmed by her unwavering support, Ye Chengshu tenderly kissed her while she slept nearby, a sweet moment amidst his struggles.
When Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse eventually stepped out for dinner, they unexpectedly encountered Director Meng and Jiang Han. It became clear that Jiang Han was the "big boss" Director Meng had been working for. Director Meng had been actively campaigning for Jiang Han in the Yushan Street renovation project, attempting to persuade residents to sign a consent form by promising ten times the usual compensation.
Jiang Han, seeking to win the bid squarely against Ye Chengshu, acknowledged Director Meng's efforts, especially in dealing with holdouts like Lady Xu who refused to sign despite not needing money. Jiang Han gave Meng a reward, emphasizing his desire for 100% certainty to avoid any risk of losing the bid. During their awkward encounter, Jiang Han provocatively noted that Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse were back together. Ye Chengshu realized that Director Meng was in Jiang Han's employ.
Jiang Han declared that he had his own methods, and for this bid, they would each have to demonstrate their respective talents. Though Ye Chengshu appeared outwardly calm, he felt a deep unease. Gu Lingse tried to comfort him, reminding him to focus on their meal. Ye Chengshu remarked that Jiang Han was sharp and had mastered his father's business tactics, but in front of him, it was like "teaching a fish to swim."
They decided to put the competition aside for the moment and enjoy their dinner. Meanwhile, since her father Gu Huaiheng's imprisonment, Gu Peiya and her mother had been living under Jiang Han's care. Gu Peiya had gradually developed romantic feelings for Jiang Han, who consistently showed her affection, even picking her up from work and assuring her she was the most important person to him.
He was also managing the Mulin County project, claiming it was a company project that he had to oversee in Ye Chengshu's absence. Gu Peiya promised to make him soup daily to prevent him from burning out. However, Gu Peiya's mother grew increasingly dissatisfied with their dependent situation and frequently clashed with the household staff. She pressed Gu Peiya to marry Jiang Han quickly, believing it would secure their position.
Gu Peiya rejected this idea, feeling that marriage shouldn't be a transaction, and urged her mother to become more independent. Her mother, however, scoffed at the idea of "pure love" and advised Gu Peiya to be "muddled" sometimes, suggesting that all relationships involved mutual gain, whether it be fame, wealth, or love. Later, while bathing Xiba, her father's dog, Gu Peiya discovered a USB drive hidden in its collar.
This discovery made her realize that Jiang Han's kindness and care towards her might have been driven by ulterior motives, likely connected to her father, Gu Huaiheng, and potential evidence he possessed. Distraught and heartbroken by this realization, she was left with a difficult choice. Recalling her mother's advice about relationships being transactional, Gu Peiya decided to maintain the status quo with Jiang Han, keeping her discovery of the USB drive a secret.
She concluded that if she played along, Jiang Han would continue to treat her well. Back at Yushan Street, residents were excitedly preparing for New Year's Eve. Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse announced their renewed relationship to the community, with Ye Chengshu openly declaring his love for Gu Lingse and promising to treat her well, respect her, and let her live life on her own terms, asking for everyone's blessing.
Uncle Zhao playfully expressed his preference for Gu Lingse as a daughter rather than a daughter-in-law, to which Ye Chengshu humorously suggested he could be his son-in-law and vowed to earn his agreement. Even Beichen, after some teasing and a playful warning to Ye Chengshu to treat Gu Lingse well, gave his full support and was playfully pressured into calling Ye Chengshu "sister's husband."
Meanwhile, Quan Zimo and Ming Rixin, having learned from their assistant Fox that Gu Lingse had been seen at a book signing, were determined to find her. Fox, who had been "tormented" by Beichen at the Yushan Playground, was in the hospital, unable to help further. With Fox out of commission, Ming Rixin took charge, and they pressured Secretary Jin to drive them to Yushan Street.
Ming Rixin made a phone call to her brother, wishing him a happy New Year and explaining that she and Quan Zimo were on their way to find Gu Lingse, not to visit his parents as he seemed to suspect. After assuring him she would inform him if she ever decided to marry, she hung up, prioritizing their mission to locate Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse.
Episode 23 Recap
As Chinese New Year's Eve approached, Gu Lingse called for a community-wide spring cleaning in Yushan Street. Just then, Quan Zimo and Xin arrived, having brought Secretary Jin with them, who jokingly accused them of kidnapping him on the way. Gu Lingse was delighted to see Quan Zimo and Xin together and, seizing the opportunity, instructed Beichen to give them cleaning tools to help with the spring-cleaning.
However, Quan Zimo and Xin quickly made an excuse and fled, leaving Secretary Jin to shoulder all the cleaning duties alone. Quan Zimo proudly showcased his new car, detailing its customized magnetic flow sheet shock absorbers. This seemingly casual boast sparked a profound realization in Ye Chengshu. He immediately connected the magnetic flow sheet technology to the Floating Island project's wind and earthquake protection system. Overwhelmed by this breakthrough, he rushed back to his design work.
Later, with the support of Gu Lingse, Ye Chengshu successfully secured signatures from 70% of the residents on Yushan Street, allowing him to obtain the project bid. He then managed to submit his revised design, incorporating the new shock absorption concept, just before the bidding deadline. He also extended a helping hand to Xiaohu, a resident who felt discouraged about finding a job due to his lack of a prestigious university degree.
Ye Chengshu offered Xiaohu an interview opportunity at the Dingzhuang Group's Yushan City branch, affirming that ability is more important than a degree. Meanwhile, Qiuhui expressed her disappointment that the annual fireworks event in Yushan City was canceled, lamenting that her birthday wish might not come true. Zhao Guobang, observing her sadness, was reminded of a fireworks festival from 30 years ago. He confessed to Ye Chengshu that he had a date with Qiuhui that year, which he missed.
He recounted how Qiuhui, after leaving Yushan Street to meet him, suffered a car accident and was helped by Gu Huaiheng, explaining her subsequent reluctance and fear of leaving the street. Ye Chengshu encouraged Zhao Guobang to perform a "miracle" and finally have their 30-year-late date. As the community prepared for the festive New Year, Gu Lingse, Ye Chengshu's mother, and others went shopping for holiday goods, filling the streets with lively chatter.
In stark contrast, Jiang Han received a distressing phone call from his father Jiang Wenbin's head doctor, who reported that Jiang Wenbin's condition had severely worsened and was not optimistic, urging Jiang Han to come to the hospital immediately. Jiang Han was also aware of Ye Chengshu's last-minute bid submission for the Yushan Street project, which stirred mixed emotions within him. On New Year's Eve, everyone gathered for a joyous dinner, which included dumplings with hidden lucky coins.
Gu Lingse was the first to find a coin, bringing smiles to the table. Secretary Jin found the second lucky coin. During the meal, Quan Zimo inadvertently ate a super spicy dumpling that Gu Lingse had specifically prepared for someone else, leading to a comical moment. After visiting his father in the hospital, a deeply distraught Jiang Han returned home. Gu Peiya immediately noticed his sadness and offered comfort, urging him not to force a smile.
Jiang Han, burdened by his father's deteriorating health, confessed his profound fear of being left utterly alone if his father passed away. Gu Peiya embraced him, reassuring him that he would never be alone and that she would be his family and accompany him forever. Her heartfelt words deeply moved Jiang Han, making him realize that he had truly fallen in love with her.
Following the New Year's Eve dinner, Zhao Guobang, now referred to as Uncle Zhao, orchestrated a special surprise. He gently coaxed a hesitant Qiuhui to venture outside by promising her another gift and giving her the lucky coin found in the dumpling, emphasizing that she would have good luck that day. Under the festive night sky, amidst the cheers and laughter of the neighbors, Zhao Guobang presented Qiuhui with a beautiful, belated fireworks display. As the vibrant fireworks illuminated the night, symbolizing their long-awaited reunion, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse shared a tender kiss, immersed in the joyous atmosphere.
Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
Mu Qiuhui watches the long-awaited fireworks display, a spectacle thirty years in the making. Zhao Guobang remarks that they can finally watch it together, expressing his joy that she likes the fireworks he specially arranged. Meanwhile, Ye Chengshu and Gu Lingse share an intimate moment, enjoying the new year countdown. Ye Chengshu tells Gu Lingse that his application for the bidding session was successful, with positive initial feedback, and he plans to focus on the next steps.
Gu Lingse expresses her confidence in him, and they share a loving kiss as the New Year begins. On New Year's Day morning, Gu Lingse and Ye Chengshu discover that Mu Qiuhui has fully awakened. Mu Qiuhui fondly reminisces about how careless Gu Lingse was as a child and recognizes her. Overwhelmed with emotion, Gu Lingse cries tears of joy.
Mu Qiuhui then greets the others present, recognizing Xiaobei, then Quan Zimo (whom she still calls Jiatong, remarking on his growth), and his girlfriend Ming Rixin. Next, she recognizes Piaopiao and Ye Chengshu, noting him as Lingse’s husband. Finally, she recognizes Zhao Guobang, affectionately calling him "Guobang." To everyone's delight, she spontaneously kisses Zhao Guobang, leaving him speechless with happiness.
Elsewhere, Jiang Han receives a phone call informing him that his company's bid for the Yushan Street project failed, and the local authority preferred the development plan submitted by Ye Chengshu's group. Enraged, Jiang Han curses Ye Chengshu's name. Soon after, he receives another call informing him that his father, Jiang Wenbin, is in critical condition and nearing his final moments, despite having regained partial consciousness.
Ignoring the doctors' advice to come to the hospital, Jiang Han instructs his men to take Jiang Wenbin from the hospital according to an "original plan." Gu Peiya, who was with Jiang Han, tries to stop him from making a grave mistake, threatening to report him if he takes his father.
Jiang Han, in a fit of anger, attempts to snatch evidence from her, but she refuses to hand it over, pleading with him not to do anything foolish and offering to destroy the evidence if he stops. When Jiang Han storms out, consumed by his plans, Gu Peiya calls Ye Chengshu, informing him that Jiang Han forcibly took Jiang Wenbin from the hospital. Ye Chengshu immediately calls Su Nian, asking if she knows Jiang Han's whereabouts.
Su Nian's brother mentions that strangers have been seen in the field outside Mulin Town, using devices to scan the ground and that the town has experienced several small earthquakes recently. Realizing the implications, Su Nian deduces that Jiang Han is secretly developing the floating island project there. She rushes to the location and calls Ye Chengshu to notify him of Jiang Han's exact location, urging him to come quickly.
In the underground facility beneath Mulin Town, Jiang Han confronts his critically ill father, Jiang Wenbin, in the core housing of the floating island project. Jiang Han boasts that he will succeed in activating the floating island, a feat Ye Nanchuan supposedly failed to achieve. Jiang Wenbin warns him that with current technology, such a project would be unstable and inevitably crash.
Jiang Han, overwhelmed by hatred, accuses his father of prioritizing Ye Nanchuan and Ye Chengshu over him, stating that he hated Ye Nanchuan for his mother's death and Ye Chengshu for his naivety, but most of all, he hated his own father for only having eyes for the Ye family. Jiang Wenbin, on his deathbed, confesses the truth.
He reveals that years ago, he and Gu Huaiheng disregarded Ye Nanchuan's warnings about the design flaws in the "Garden in the Air" project and proceeded with construction to achieve fame. The project eventually collapsed. During the collapse, Ye Nanchuan sacrificed himself to save Jiang Han's mother, both ultimately dying in the rubble.
Jiang Wenbin admits that he had lived with immense guilt ever since, feeling he owed Ye Nanchuan greatly, and his kindness towards Ye Chengshu was an act of atonement. Upon hearing this confession, Jiang Han is finally shaken. Although he tells his father he won't hate him anymore, he asserts that he will never forgive him. As Jiang Wenbin passes away, Jiang Han chooses to surrender and makes a phone call to turn himself in to the authorities.
Five years later, the Dingzhuang Group holds a news conference. Ye Chengshu, now more mature, stands alongside his wife, Gu Lingse, and their child. He announces the launch of the Eco-Floating Island Bionic Project, an unprecedented initiative aimed at transforming challenges into opportunities. He invites everyone to join them in building this epoch-making project, which will officially begin its pilot phase in Mulin Town and Yushan Street. Gu Lingse then steps forward to announce the launch date: in 99 days. Among the attendees, Quan Zimo and a pregnant Ming Rixin proudly watch the couple, as the ambitious project finally gets underway.
