The Silence of the Monster Episode 9 Recap
> The Silence of the Monster Recap
Wang Wenxin frantically reported to the police that his fiancée, Li Yun, was missing. Officer Jia, seeing Wang Wenxin dressed in an astronomical suit, tried to calm him, explaining that Li Yun had left a message and that since they weren't married, it wasn't a criminal case. However, Wang Wenxin insisted, asking the police to use big data to find her. He Chufeng and Sui Yi arrived and took over comforting Wang Wenxin.
He Chufeng questioned Wang Wenxin about his communication with Li Yun. Wang Wenxin recounted telling Li Yun things like, "You bought so many things. Dinner is ready. You must be hungry today. I made all your favorite dishes today." He also mentioned reminding her to eat more vegetables for her skin and setting a wedding photo appointment.
He Chufeng pointed out that this wasn't true communication, but rather Wang Wenxin unilaterally sending messages, to which Li Yun only replied without ever proactively initiating a conversation. He Chufeng also noted that Wang Wenxin never inquired about Li Yun's past, assuming she would tell him if she wished. He Chufeng then revealed insights into Li Yun's past, explaining that she was once a beautiful and excellent medical student.
However, after witnessing her benefactor, Professor Jiang, die in a car accident, Li Yun left medical school and started working in an art store, adopting a plainer appearance. Wang Wenxin believed he and Li Yun shared a spiritual connection, particularly in their discussions about parallel worlds. Yet, He Chufeng observed that this wasn't Li Yun's complete self. He noted her recent changes—dressing up and wearing dresses—as her attempt to reclaim her former self.
He Chufeng acknowledged that Wang Wenxin did influence her, but suggested there might be another door in her heart that remained unopened. Wang Wenxin expressed his deep love for Li Yun, whom he called "Olive," and his despair over her disappearance. He reminisced about their happy times and his efforts to make her happy, feeling he had failed.
Luo Bin offered a comforting metaphor about starlight traveling for light-years, suggesting that even if contact is lost, the love shared is not meaningless. After Wang Wenxin eventually fell asleep in the police station, He Chufeng and Sui Yi decided to continue their investigation. Luo Bin also set off to assist. He Chufeng and Sui Yi first went to the orphanage, speculating Li Yun might be there since Professor Jiang was headed there when his accident occurred.
As He Chufeng and Sui Yi drove, Sui Yi asked about He Chufeng's parents, but he remained silent, suggesting a painful memory. When their phone lost signal, they decided to check another location, and eventually found Li Yun at the site of a photograph taken with Professor Jiang, which was his grave.
Sui Yi approached Li Yun, introducing herself as a lawyer and explaining that an artist named Li Zhe (also known as Dong Li) had left an artwork for her. Li Yun reacted coldly, stating she didn't know Dong Li and dismissed the matter as past. She insisted she had moved on and accused them of disturbing her life. However, He Chufeng challenged her, saying, "Time has passed, but you didn't let it go."
Li Yun then emotionally recounted the trauma of witnessing Professor Jiang's death, highlighting her helplessness as a medical student. He Chufeng, in turn, revealed his own painful memory of seeing his mother die in a fire when he was a child, and urged Li Yun to go see the artwork before making a final decision. Later, as Sui Yi remained quiet during their drive back, Li Yun recalled a vivid memory of her past with Li Zhe.
She had fallen while they were riding a bicycle, leaving a fishbone-shaped scar on her arm. Feeling disfigured, Li Zhe comforted her by drawing a similar fishbone on his own arm, proudly declaring himself a "born artist." Back at the art museum, Sui Yi spoke with Mr. Su, confirming she had found "Dong Li's lover" but was unsure if she would attend. Mr. Su encouraged her to proceed as planned, regardless of the outcome.
Meanwhile, Meng Ziyang and Ji Xiuyi were arguing, while He Chufeng, Luo Bin, and Sui Yi waited anxiously for Li Yun. Luo Bin shared his distress from the previous day, recounting how Wang Wenxin had broken down and cried like a child after learning he was the "latercomer" in Li Yun's "love triangle" involving Li Zhe. As time ticked by, everyone grew nervous, but Li Yun eventually arrived, appearing more composed and ready to face the past.
Ji Xiuyi then presented Dong Li's will and diary to Li Yun, causing Meng Qianhe to become enraged and storm out. Li Yun began reading the diary, which revealed the truth about Li Zhe, who had renamed himself Dong Li because of his congenital heart disease, metaphorically living only in winter.
He wrote about his heart failure and the difficult decision to break up with Li Yun, making her believe he abandoned her to spare her the pain of his impending death. Li Zhe expressed his gratitude for her presence in his short life, recounting how she made him feel special despite his condition. He wished Li Yun a better life, urging her to be strong, embrace her own life, and to see the spring sun he would never witness.
He emphasized the importance of staying true to herself, not changing for anyone, and never giving up. Overcome with emotion, Li Yun cried profusely. Sui Yi then confirmed that the will was legally binding, designating Li Yun as the sole inheritor of Li Zhe's legacy, including the artwork. Li Yun, finally at peace, agreed to sell the art piece to Mr. Jin.
As they awaited Wang Wenxin, Luo Bin observed Sui Yi and He Chufeng, noting that Sui Yi hadn't made eye contact with He Chufeng. He teased He Chufeng, asking if he had done something to displease her and if he had feelings for Sui Yi. Separately, He Chufeng discovered he was allergic to cat hair from Bean Bun, but the symptoms were mild.
Sui Yi suggested he get some medicine, and He Chufeng agreed, reflecting that he had experienced similar allergies in the past, and resolved to continue caring for his cat, Bean Bun.
