Go Into Your Heart Episode 39 Recap
> Go Into Your Heart Recap
Yao Ke visited Master Xie in the hospital, where Master Xie, in a state of confusion, mistook Yao Ke for Sheng Jingchu. This made Yao Ke feel unhappy and then angry when Master Xie mentioned entrusting the dojo to Sheng Jingchu. Master Xie began reminiscing about Sheng Jingchu's childhood, recalling how Sheng Jingchu once colored the sky green and the grass purple due to his colorblindness.
Seeing Sheng Jingchu cry over his drawing deeply saddened Master Xie, who then explained that he had treated Sheng Jingchu like his own son ever since. In his confused state, Master Xie told "Jing Chu" that his body was failing and that Jiuzhou Dojo would depend on him. Yao Ke, despite his anger, cautiously asked if Master Xie meant to entrust the dojo to Sheng Jingchu.
Master Xie, still muddled, corrected him for referring to himself by his full name, confirming his intention to pass Jiuzhou Dojo to Yao Ke, praising him as the most outstanding Go player and his favorite disciple. He assured Yao Ke that no one was more suitable and that the dojo would have been his eventually, even without his illness.
Yao Ke accepted, then tried to persuade Master Xie to eat some porridge, but Master Xie refused, asking to be helped to lean back. Suddenly, Master Xie's condition deteriorated, and Yao Ke urgently called for doctors. Xie Chang An and other disciples soon arrived at the hospital. Master Xie, with great effort, called Yao Ke over and explicitly instructed him to remember his words: Jiuzhou Dojo was to be entrusted to him.
This declaration came as a shock to everyone present. Soon after, a nurse asked all family members to leave, citing the need for the patient's rest. Outside, the female disciple Lan expressed her deep distress over Master Xie's sudden decline, recalling he had seemed fine just the day before. She pleaded for Master Xie's recovery. Yao Ke, however, focused on Master Xie's pronouncement, asking the others if they clearly heard Master Xie say he was handing Jiuzhou Dojo to him.
A disciple expressed surprise, noting that Yao Ke hadn't been with them for long. Yao Ke defended himself, stating he wouldn't have believed it either if Master Xie hadn't said it while holding his hand in front of everyone. He suggested they let Master Xie recuperate for now.
Later, Yao Ke reinterpreted Master Xie's intentions, suggesting that perhaps Master Xie did not give Jiuzhou Dojo to Sheng Jingchu because he wanted Sheng Jingchu to leave Jiuzhou and establish his own dojo. This interpretation shocked everyone and made them feel Yao Ke was going too far. While Xie Chang An and Sheng Jingchu were at the hospital, Master Xie's blood oxygen level suddenly dropped, prompting Xie Chang An and Sheng Jingchu to frantically call for doctors.
Despite efforts, Master Xie passed away. Sheng Jingchu, exhausted from days without sleep and unable to accept his master's condition, collapsed. When he awoke, he repeatedly asked for Master Xie, only for Cheng Liao to tearfully inform him that Master Xie had passed away. Sheng Jingchu was unable to process the news, and Cheng Liao held him tightly, offering comfort as he grieved.
In a flashback, Master Xie was seen reassuring a young Sheng Jingchu that the dojo would be his home, and he, along with Eldest Senior Brother, would be his family. At the funeral, Elder Jiang delivered a heartfelt eulogy, honoring Master Xie as a grandmaster and great contributor to the Go world who dedicated his life to the game without seeking fame. He expressed profound sorrow at no longer being able to play Go and bicker with his old friend.
Sheng Jingchu's absence from the funeral raised many questions. Reporters attempted to interview Xie Chang An, probing into Sheng Jingchu's whereabouts and suggesting possible conflicts with Master Xie. Enraged, Xie Chang An lashed out at the reporters, demanding they leave and accusing them of lacking conscience on his father's final day.
Deciding not to wait for Sheng Jingchu any longer, Xie Chang An led the disciples in the final rites, placing a Go stone as a symbolic last move, and lamenting that he wasn't ready to say goodbye. The other disciples also placed stones, vowing to honor Master Xie by continuing his legacy of teaching Go. Meanwhile, a disoriented Sheng Jingchu was found drinking alone in his old family home.
His colorblindness resurfaced, causing him to perceive an elderly man playing Go on the street as Master Xie. Cheng Liao found him in his grief-stricken state, deeply pained by his appearance and unsure how to comfort him. Sheng Jingchu confided in her that he could no longer play Go. He tearfully recounted his painful history, having been abandoned by his parents at six and now losing his master, leaving him feeling completely alone.
In his heart, Master Xie was like a birth parent, and all his emotional reliance had been on his master after his parents left, making this blow unbearable. Cheng Liao comforted him, assuring him that she was still there for him. She tried to get him to eat and called Xie Chang An, explaining Sheng Jingchu's poor mental and physical state and requesting that no one come to visit him, promising to take care of him herself.
At Sheng Jingchu's old family home, after days of trying to get him to eat, Cheng Liao gently advised him that his body couldn't withstand his current state. Sheng Jingchu then told her that he had decided to abandon Go and would no longer participate in competitions. Cheng Liao relayed this devastating news to the other disciples over the phone. Lan was shocked and urged Xie Chang An to persuade Sheng Jingchu, calling him their pillar of support.
However, Yao Ke expressed understanding, suggesting that Sheng Jingchu’s decision was not impulsive and that they should give him space. Jiang Yuda vehemently disagreed, arguing that giving up Go, which was everything to Master Xie, amounted to self-abandonment. He questioned how they could stand by and do nothing, leading to a heated argument between him and Yao Ke before Jiang Yuda stormed off. Cheng Liao then brought Sheng Jingchu back to the dojo.
There, Lan and other disciples tried to encourage Sheng Jingchu to snap out of his despair, emphasizing that Master Xie would want him to continue playing Go. Another senior disciple advised him against making absolute decisions in an emotional state, warning he would regret it. Sheng Jingchu remained unresponsive, his eyes dull.
Feeling helpless, Cheng Liao confided in Xie Chang An, expressing her fear for Sheng Jingchu, who had just rediscovered his passion for Go and solidified his determination to play, and her inability to console him. Xie Chang An suggested that given Sheng Jingchu's personality, only one person might be able to reach him. Cheng Liao, still by Sheng Jingchu’s side, tried to get him to eat and shared her fears about his decision to quit Go.
She assured him that she wouldn't try to persuade him and that she would always be by his side, regardless of his decision. However, she urged him to take care of himself, to eat, drink, and go out, expressing concern about what she would do if he collapsed. Sheng Jingchu then asked her to accompany him for a walk the next day, to relax. Cheng Liao agreed.
The next day, as they walked, Sheng Jingchu mentioned he was tired and suggested they visit a nearby tea house. Cheng Liao excused herself to use the restroom, leaving Sheng Jingchu to enter the tea house alone. He mistakenly entered a private room where Nie Wei Ping was engrossed in a game of Go. Nie Wei Ping, recognizing Sheng Jingchu, confronted him directly about the rumors of his retirement, sternly asking, "Hiding out when problems occur? Who taught you that? Was it Xie Han Zhou?"
