Xie Zhiyao sat idly by the barbecue stall, bored out of his mind. Guobao was tricked by Champion into thinking Xie Zhiyao was dead and burst into loud tears. Hearing this, Xie Zhiyao quickly came over to comfort Guobao and even asked him to call him “Baba. ” Just as Guobao was enthusiastically calling Xie Zhiyao “Baba,” Champion’s wife suddenly showed up, punched him, and left with their son Guobao.

When Xu Hongdou arrived at the stall, she found a bump on Xie Zhiyao’s forehead. She had already noticed he was in low spirits today and asked him what happened. Xie Zhiyao said it was just a small problem and would be resolved soon. Champion exposed him, telling Xu Hongdou that while Xie Zhiyao appeared strong, he was soft inside and used to hide and cry easily in the past.

Xie Xiaochun came home and didn’t see Luo Quan, only to find out he hadn’t come at all today. She quickly called her mother-in-law, who revealed that Luo Quan had argued with his father for the first time ever to keep their child in Yunmiao Village for school and ended up getting beaten so badly that he was covered in bruises.

While they were still on the phone, Luo Quan returned, took the call and comforted Xie Xiaochun, saying she didn’t need to worry. Xie Xiaochun said a few words and hung up. The next morning, Xie Zhiyao took Xu Hongdou to the guesthouse construction site and discovered the gate had been splashed with paint and vandalized—clearly the act of an adult.

He pretended not to care but privately asked Xie Xiaochun to investigate who in the village had recently bought white paint. Xu Hongdou, being sharp, got the gist of it from Auntie Gui. It turned out that many villagers saw Yunmiao Village booming and wanted to open guesthouses or restaurants. Since the village committee had appointed Xie Zhiyao to make decisions, some whose proposals were rejected grew resentful.

They believed he and his girlfriend Xu Hongdou were secretly making a fortune while cutting off others’ opportunities. Auntie Gui knew what kind of person Xie Zhiyuan was. Back then, no one wanted to take over the guesthouse, and it was only thanks to Xu Hongdou stepping in that it got revived. Even though Xu Hongdou hadn’t offended anyone and Xie Zhiyuan had done a lot for the villagers, gossip still spread.

Those villagers blamed Xie Zhiyao, unaware that their own homes didn’t meet the requirements for a proper guesthouse. Without quality service, they wouldn’t profit and would actually hurt the tourism industry. That night, Xu Hongdou approached Xie Zhiyao voluntarily, saying she wasn’t as fragile as he thought and wanted him to talk to her about things. Now that they were a couple, they should face problems together. Xie Xiaochun was curious why Bai Manjun divorced her husband.

Apart from the common issue of infidelity, it mostly stemmed from one-sided emotional investment and differing views and values. While the village committee members and Xie Zhiyao were away, a group of villagers caused a disturbance at the guesthouse construction site. More than ten men surrounded Xu Hongdou with farm tools, some even filming with their phones and yelling that she was opening a guesthouse under the protection of her boyfriend Xie Zhiyao, monopolizing opportunities and ignoring everyone else’s survival.

Xiaohulu and Tuotuo rushed to find Xie Anai and Xie Xiaochun. Xie Anai came running with a toy knife and, seeing the mob smashing the site, drove them all away in a fury. Xie Zhiyao received a call from Xie Xiaochun and hurried back to Yunmiao Village. Xu Hongdou learned from villagers that investors were coming to develop Yunmiao Village.

Angry that Xie Zhiyao hadn’t told her despite promising to be honest with each other, she said they should cool down. Upset by the mob attacking Xu Hongdou, Xie Zhiyao grabbed a bamboo stick and wanted to fight back, but Xie Anai stopped him just in time. Huang Xinxin came to calm him down, saying the village committee had stepped in and would make those people apologize to Xu Hongdou. The guesthouse construction continued.

Suddenly, Grandpa Yang came over, didn’t say much, and just sat nearby like a guardian statue. Meanwhile, Xie Qiang came to Xie Zhiyao, saying he planned to stay in the village. Over the years, he realized that no matter how much money he made, being with his parents and caring for them was most important.
