Hen Xiang confronted Fu Chou, asserting that he would have to kill her to go and rescue Rong Le. She warned that if she died, there would be no one left in the world who would treat him with true sincerity. She recounted how their master took them in after she lost her family, and how they endured the cruelest training together, relying on each other through their toughest times.
Hen Xiang believed their bond was special, recalling how he once told her she was his most trusted person, which motivated her to willingly complete all his tasks, convinced of her importance to him. Fu Chou, though moved, criticized her recent missions as disappointing failures. Hen Xiang admitted she was afraid—afraid to see him falling deeper for Rong Le, fearing Rong Le would one day harm him. She desperately wanted to protect him from suffering again.
Fu Chou countered that this highlighted the difference between Rong Le and them; despite being betrayed by family and used by those she trusted, Rong Le remained kind and generous. He felt that while Hen Xiang constantly reminded him of revenge, Rong Le offered him light. Hen Xiang retorted that Rong Le simply hadn't suffered enough, believing she wouldn't remain so pure if forced to fight for survival.
Fu Chou declared he would not allow Hen Xiang to harm Rong Le and dismissed her claims of loyalty as shallow, concluding she was no longer his match. Rong Le awoke bound by a cliff. She laughed at her foolishness for trusting Chen Yu, who appeared and clarified her sole aim was "The Book of Mountains and Rivers." Chen Yu admitted she was not the real Chen Yu nor a descendant of Qin, but someone sent to acquire the book.
Rong Le realized Chen Yu's past kindness was a manipulation to get the book from Wu You. Chen Yu acknowledged this was her only way but refused to name her master. She noted they were both pawns in a larger game, but declared her intention to fight for her own choices. Chen Yu revealed she had already summoned Wu You, confident he would come.
She contrasted Fu Chou’s gentle exterior and his deep-seated motives with Wu You’s sentimental and righteous nature, predicting Wu You would sacrifice anything for Rong Le. Though understanding Chen Yu's predicament, Rong Le stated their friendship was over. Meanwhile, in the palace, the Emperor questioned Wu Yu about Wu You’s whereabouts. Wu Yu lied, claiming Wu You had gone to handle a rebellion in Qingzhou.
Prince Fanyang then arrived and was tasked by the Emperor to prepare for the war against Wei. Though Prince Fanyang suggested Wu You was better suited, the Emperor noted Wu You's opposition to the war. The Emperor revealed his plan to take Fu Chou on the campaign to keep him under control, while leaving the Crown Prince as regent.
Wu You arrived at the cliff, where Chen Yu told him Rong Le's marriage to Fu Chou was forced by the Emperor of Qi, and that Wu You was the only one Rong Le had ever loved. Rong Le vehemently denied this. Holding a dagger to Rong Le's throat at the cliff's edge, Chen Yu demanded the book. Wu You immediately threw it to her.
Upon receiving it, Chen Yu whispered to Rong Le that she would now prove her words, then pushed Rong Le off the cliff. Wu You instantly dove after her, pushing her back up to safety while disregarding his own. Having anticipated this, Chen Yu advised them to flee together, stating that no one would ever treat Rong Le better than Wu You.
After Chen Yu left, Wu You, still dangling from the cliff, insisted on knowing if Chen Yu's words were true. Under pressure, Rong Le finally admitted she thought of him every day and could not forget him. Hearing this, Wu You climbed up and embraced her tightly. He lamented that while everyone else saw their mutual feelings, they had been too afraid to be sure.
He urged her to flee with him to the southern border, promising a life of freedom. As proof of her feelings, he mentioned the chess piece she had kept. Rong Le agreed but revealed her one-year marriage contract with Fu Chou. Wu You declared he would wait for her at the hunting ground at 8:00 AM the next day; if she did not appear, he would settle the matter personally with Fu Chou.
Upon Rong Le’s return to the General’s Manor, Fu Chou assured her the cliff incident was not his doing and promised to kill Chen Yu. Rong Le told him to leave it. Fu Chou lamented that Rong Le showed sincerity to her betrayer but only coldness to him. When Rong Le suggested ending their arrangement, Fu Chou refused, revealing he had brought her maids, Ling Yue and Xiao Ke, to the manor.
He threatened their safety if Rong Le took a single step outside without permission and ordered his guard, Chang Jian, to watch her closely. The next morning, Wu You waited at the hunting ground, but Rong Le did not appear. Xiao Sha arrived to inform him that she had been placed under house arrest. Enraged, Wu You led his troops to the General's Manor, demanding Fu Chou release Rong Le.
As the two men faced off, Xiao Sha rushed to tell Rong Le. Hurrying to intervene, Rong Le felt a wave of weakness and nearly collapsed. Xiao Ke gravely informed her that without the antidote, the poison had spread to her organs; she had, at most, six months to live. Devastated, Rong Le ordered her attendants not to tell anyone. She then rushed to the front yard, where Wu You and Fu Chou were fighting fiercely.
Fu Chou, noticing her arrival, deliberately exposed an opening. As Wu You went for a decisive blow, Rong Le threw herself in front of Fu Chou, forcing Wu You to halt his attack. Rong Le told Wu You he could not harm Fu Chou, her husband. Disbelieving, Wu You recounted how Fu Chou had used and imprisoned her.
Rong Le insisted it was their own affair and declared she was unwilling to leave, claiming she would not betray Fu Chou’s sincerity. She delivered the final blow by stating she would not ruin her reputation for him, because she felt he was "not worth it." She told him to mind his own business in the future, as her husband would protect her. Deeply hurt, Wu You departed.
Fu Chou asked Rong Le if her words to Wu You were true. She stated they were a lie. Fu Chou astutely deduced she had done everything to protect Wu You from imperial punishment and rumors, with no regard for his own safety or feelings. He asked why she hadn't left with Wu You, who could give her the freedom she craved.
Burdened by her fatal diagnosis, Rong Le lamented that her life was in others' hands, making freedom a fantasy and herself a heavy burden. She warned Fu Chou not to harbor any hope for her, as she could not give him what he desired.
