The next morning, Li He arrived early. Yuan Caixi also arrived early and found Li He already in his seat, reviewing test papers. He greeted her and asked for help with a question, but she initially ignored him. Li He apologized for his absence the previous day, promising it wouldn't happen again. Yuan Caixi retorted that if he truly cared about passing the exam, he wouldn't have gone to watch a "ball game" the night before.
Confused, Li He clarified that he had gone to observe training at No. 2 Experimental Middle School, not to watch a game or just have fun. With the misunderstanding cleared, Yuan Caixi's demeanor softened, and she began to explain the problem to him, though she sternly warned him to focus on his studies and not take advantage. Li He, relieved, promised to never forget their appointments again.
Ning Zeyu and Yuan Caixi dedicated their time to tutoring the sports students, while Han Yayi provided individual coaching to Lin Chuan. During a study session, Ning Zeyu joked with Yuan Caixi about selling her meticulously prepared study notes to future students for profit. Yuan Caixi agreed, suggesting a 50/50 split, but Ning Zeyu, teasingly acknowledging his lesser role, offered her a larger share.
Yuan Caixi also slyly pointed out that Li He had been using Lin Chuan to inquire about her, showing she was aware of his attempts to gauge her feelings. Later, Li He, grateful for Yuan Caixi's help in their studies, invited her to dinner at a barbecue restaurant to celebrate their progress in Chinese, which now seemed promising for passing grades.
However, Yuan Caixi politely declined, explaining that she had already arranged to meet Ning Zeyu at the bookstore to discuss a difficult question. Ning Zeyu, during their bookstore session, asked Yuan Caixi why she was helping Li He if she aimed to surpass him academically. Yuan Caixi explained that she understood Li He's desire to make his parents proud with good grades, a sentiment she shared from her own past.
She also saw it as reciprocating the favor from the relay race, considering them "even" now. Ning Zeyu then suggested they attend a lecture together after the exam, but Yuan Caixi, still maintaining their rivalry, preferred to decide on the day, depending on her exam performance. Following Lin Chuan's advice to "play hard-to-get," Li He adopted a colder attitude towards Yuan Caixi the next day.

Lin Chuan reported this back to Li He, interpreting Han Yayi's concern as a sign that Yuan Caixi was indeed affected and losing her composure. Li He worried he might genuinely upset Yuan Caixi if he continued to ignore her. Lin Chuan reassured him, reiterating that a strategic, sudden display of care and affection at the right moment would make her "completely fall for him."
However, Ning Zeyu, having deduced Li He's "play hard-to-get" strategy and explained it to Yuan Caixi, advised her to "play along" with their plan. The following day, Li He confidently presented his completed homework to Yuan Caixi, asking her to check it. To his surprise, Yuan Caixi merely affirmed that it was "good" without even looking at it, then told him to carry on with his usual activities. When Li He pressed for further instructions, she simply dismissed him.
As she left, she informed him that she had to help a teacher sort materials and wouldn't be able to tutor him or his friends anymore, leaving Li He and Lin Chuan in a panic, wondering what to do. Yuan Caixi then turned to Lin Chuan, declaring that she would be just as strict with him as she was with other classmates, effectively putting him in charge of his friends' academic progress.
Later, after a rigorous, unscheduled study session enforced by Yuan Caixi, Li He attempted to lighten the mood with Lin Chuan, telling him that his efforts would surely lead to a "reborn" performance in the upcoming exam. Soon after, Jiang Yuan excitedly approached Li He, revealing that he had successfully obtained the monthly exam answers from a web forum where he had sought help the previous day.
