Because of Yun Shu, Grandpa Zhang was in a very good mood. He could sense that Yun Shu was a bit distracted and knew she must have something on her mind. Yun Shu honestly told Grandpa Zhang that she had interviewed to become a legal assistant, but she wasn’t confident at all in whether she could handle the job.
Upon hearing this, Grandpa Zhang immediately comforted her, telling her to believe in herself—there’s always a reason someone chooses another person, even if neither party realizes it yet. Encouraged by his words, Yun Shu quickly regained her courage. At that moment, Grandpa asked Yun Shu for a small favor, and she readily agreed.
Zhang Sinian was about to send a WeChat message to Yun Shu to ask how her job was going, but he deleted the message right after typing it. Just then, he received a text from Grandpa asking him to come to the hospital. Yun Shu followed the address Grandpa had given and arrived at a seaside villa. One look at the house, and she marveled that books really did contain golden mansions. Once inside, she began cleaning every corner.
The villa was so large that Yun Shu got a bit bored and started dancing while tidying up. Unexpectedly, Zhang Sinian arrived at the villa, and Yun Shu asked him in confusion why he was suddenly there. Zhang Sinian didn’t give a direct answer, but Yun Shu still felt overjoyed inside. He figured that Grandpa had arranged this time for them to be together, so the two of them cleaned the villa from top to bottom.
While tidying a storage room, Yun Shu discovered some childhood photos of Zhang Sinian. Finding out that he also read fairy tales as a child made her feel a strange sense of closeness. Unexpectedly, Zhang Sinian wasn’t happy about it and asked Yun Shu to leave the room. Just then, a gecko appeared on the wall—something Zhang Sinian was afraid of—so he quickly asked Yun Shu to help him get rid of it.
Once the cleaning was done, Zhang Sinian planned to take Yun Shu to the beach. However, something came up at school, so he could only let Yun Shu go by herself. He messaged her, promising to take her to the beach next time. Yun Shu was delighted when she saw the message. A few days later, Zhang Sinian texted Yun Shu asking her to accompany him on Sunday to pick up Grandpa from the hospital.
The sweetness at the corners of Zhang Sinian’s mouth didn’t escape the notice of Shen Lan’s colleague, who reminded him that he should clearly explain the situation to avoid misunderstandings. Yun Shu resigned from the supermarket and planned to report to the law firm next Monday. Gao Zhiyi told her that she had “won” this time in her runaway-from-home attempt. Yun Shu thought that was unlikely. She then asked Gao Zhiyi about her relationship with Gu Xiao.
Gao Zhiyi blushed and said they were still in the push-and-pull phase. While discussing business at a hotel, Yun Lan happened to see Lu Yu filming. Seeing how seriously he acted made her impression of him slightly improve. Yun Shu and Zhang Sinian picked Grandpa up and brought him home. Yun Shu ran into the kitchen to cook for him, and Zhang Sinian also came in to help.
Seeing Yun Shu struggle to wash vegetables with her hair down, he helped tie it up for her. He then explained that the way he had acted previously was because he was afraid that divorce would damage a girl’s reputation. Yun Shu realized she had misunderstood him. A moment later, Grandpa suddenly entered the kitchen and asked them to stay the night with him. Zhang Sinian agreed, and Yun Shu also promised.
That night, Yun Shu thought about the defaced Hans Christian Andersen book and asked Grandpa whether Zhang Sinian hadn’t liked fairy tales as a child. Grandpa explained that The Little Mermaid had actually been Zhang Sinian’s favorite, but after his parents passed away in an accident, he had lied to him, saying his mother had turned into the little mermaid and returned to the sea. That’s why Zhang Sinian grew to dislike the book.
Yun Shu told Grandpa that Zhang Sinian just hadn’t said goodbye to his past self yet. Grandpa told Yun Shu that he wanted her to marry Zhang Sinian because he knew she was warm and kind, and he believed she could influence Zhang Sinian to become someone with warmth, too. Upon hearing this, Yun Shu agreed immediately. Because of Grandpa, Zhang Sinian and Yun Shu had to stay in the same room and sleep in the same bed.
Yun Shu brought up the story of the mermaid and told Zhang Sinian not to deny the emotions in the book. Then Zhang Sinian unexpectedly told Yun Shu that they didn’t need to force the nature of their relationship. Hearing this made Yun Shu especially happy, and she fell asleep peacefully. Lu Yu came knocking on Yun Lan’s door again. Seeing his flushed face, she got an ice pack for him.
Finding out that he had a bit of a fever, she personally made him ginger tea. When Lu Yu asked to stay at her place, Yun Lan didn’t refuse, but she sternly warned him not to enter her room—or she’d kick him. While driving Yun Shu away from Grandpa’s house, she asked Zhang Sinian to go somewhere with her. Zhang Sinian accidentally discovered that the girl he had seen in the cinema last time was actually Yun Shu. It turned out she had dressed up as a mermaid this time, hoping to resolve the knot in Zhang Sinian’s heart.
