In the showers, Captain Zhao playfully teased Qin Guan about leading a team of female soldiers, even asking to borrow Qin Guan's lavender-scented shampoo. In retaliation, Qin Guan continuously squeezed shampoo onto Captain Zhao’s head. This act nearly escalated into a brawl between the soldiers from both teams, who fiercely defended their respective captains. Qin Guan quickly intervened, ordering his men, including Guo Xiaowei, to take a shower, while Captain Zhao also sent his soldiers away.
Captain Zhao then feigned an apology to Qin Guan, remarking that Qin Guan's soldiers were strong. Later, the male soldiers informally compared their captains' past glories, displaying their scars as badges of honor. Captain Zhao's soldiers boasted about his bravery in single-handedly disarming three gunmen to save an old man, and another time clearing out an armed robbery at a downtown mall, earning him the title "God of War."
Qin Guan's soldiers countered by recounting his mission where he killed eight terrorists alone, earning him a second-class medal of merit. Qin Guan, however, dismissed the importance of scars, suggesting that more injuries indicated less skill. He pointed out that while he had been on more missions than Captain Zhao, he had fewer injuries, implying superior skill, before coolly dismissing Captain Zhao. Elsewhere, other male soldiers also discussed the arrival of the female soldiers.
Chen Haozhe showed particular interest in Ning Meng, though he justified it as merely observing an excellent soldier. Meanwhile, Wu Jie received an update that Dr. James had a close confidant, Shen Bo, who left the country shortly after James's incident. It was believed that the crucial data they sought was in Shen Bo’s possession. Ning Meng found Wen Jing, the political instructor, gazing at a photo of Ning Lei.
Wen Jing, who had been Ning Lei's girlfriend, still deeply missed him. Believing that psychology could play a vital role in counter-terrorism, Ning Meng sought Wen Jing's professional guidance. Wen Jing, happy to help and noting Ning Meng's resemblance to her brother, eagerly shared insights into lie detection, such as how people tend to look to the upper right when fabricating stories or display restlessness and subtle shifts in body weight, ready to flee.
As Operation Lightning approached, Qin Guan briefed the Blue Lightning team on an upcoming knockout round where 7 of the 21 participants would be eliminated. The task involved rescuing a hostage guarded by three elite veteran soldiers within a specified time by unlocking an electronic bracelet. A soldier remarked on the task's extreme difficulty, an "almost impossible" challenge.
Qin Guan explained to an aide that he intentionally designed such a challenging scenario because while each soldier possessed unique talents, they all shared a common trait of excessive individualism. He aimed to teach them the principle that while one might walk fast alone, a group can walk further together. During the mission, Tong Mengyao and Xu Dongdong decided to team up with Lin Yi, believing their combined strength would give them a better chance in a three-on-three scenario.
Lin Yi initially seemed indifferent but ultimately joined them. Ning Meng meticulously planned her approach to a hostage situation, detailing how she would use a flare to create a ten-second blind spot and then eliminate the three terrorists. However, just as she prepared to act, Yang Shu, who had already advanced, snatched the hostage away, explaining she was merely practicing. Elsewhere, Chen Haozhe encountered the squad leader, who advised him to take the mission more seriously.
From the command center, an aide noticed Qin Guan was particularly focused on Lin Yi's performance. Qin Guan admitted he had high expectations for Lin Yi. Meanwhile, Tong Mengyao secretly hacked Drone One, taking control of its surveillance feed. When the command center reported Drone One's failure, Qin Guan ordered Drone Two to take over. Qin Guan also observed Ning Meng's stationary position, correctly deducing she was formulating a tactical plan.
He predicted she would choose Zone One, which had fewer hostages but also fewer competitors than Zone Two. Using the hacked drone, Tong Mengyao directed Xu Dongdong and Lin Yi. She guided them to a hostage but warned of heavy resistance from other converging teams. Realizing the chaos, they switched targets, pursuing a terrorist who was escaping with a hostage in a jeep. Just then, Drone Two located Lin Yi.
Tong Mengyao quickly identified a commanding height 124 meters ahead as Lin Yi's last viable sniper position. Reaching the vantage point, Lin Yi found the gap too wide to cross. Xu Dongdong, without hesitation, used a wooden board as a makeshift ramp for him to jump across. Despite Lin Yi's concern about her ability to support his weight, Xu Dongdong insisted as time ran out.
Lin Yi made the jump and eliminated the terrorist just as the target was about to escape. Qin Guan watched, ecstatic, praising Lin Yi's excellent marksmanship. Lin Yi then allowed Xu Dongdong to free the hostage, securing her advancement, and she promised to help him in return. More team members, including Tong Mengyao, Chen Haozhe, Du Xinyu, Lin Yi, Li Sisi, and Guo Xiaowei, successfully advanced.
With only one hostage remaining, Guo Xiaowei, grateful for Ning Meng's earlier help, offered to assist her. Lin Yi decided to study the other teams' tactics, with Xu Dongdong accompanying him. Tong Mengyao, having already advanced, decided to help Liang Weili, aiming to secure her advancement and simultaneously eliminate Ning Meng. Back in the field, Lin Yi noticed Xu Dongdong's hand was injured from helping him jump.
Despite her dismissing it as minor, Lin Yi insisted they treat it immediately to prevent it from affecting her assessment. Tong Mengyao contacted Liang Weili, reassuring her that she would guide the last hostage to her. She then faked an intercom malfunction to record Qin Guan's voice and used the recording to order the terrorists to move the hostage toward Liang Weili's position. The command center confirmed Drone One was out of control due to a system breach.
Informed of the unauthorized hostage transfer, Qin Guan instructed his team not to alert Tong Mengyao, wanting to see her plan unfold. Ning Meng, observing the terrorist's suspicious movements, deduced someone was guiding him from above. She promptly shot down the hovering drone, blinding the "cheater." Though Tong Mengyao lost visual, she remained confident, as the hostage was still heading towards Liang Weili. Ning Meng proceeded to shoot down more drones. Qin Guan arrived and confronted Tong Mengyao.
He acknowledged her hacking skill was expected, as he had provided the computer to test her, but he reprimanded her for helping Liang Weili cheat. As punishment, Qin Guan ordered Tong Mengyao to run back to camp, threatening to send her back to her original unit if she refused. He then directed his team to move the last hostage to Workshop 3. Hampered by her injured foot, Ning Meng was walking slowly. Guo Xiaowei went ahead to scout.
Along the way, Ning Meng encountered the squad leader. Out of loyalty to his late friend Ning Lei, he tried to persuade Ning Meng to give up for her own safety. Ning Meng remained resolute, believing her brother would have supported her. Seeing her determination, the squad leader decided to help her secure the last spot to repay a debt he felt he owed Ning Lei. Guo Xiaowei returned, having located the hostage. The squad leader and Guo Xiaowei then planned to lure the terrorists out of the workshop, leaving Ning Meng outside to make the final shot.
