Yu Zhi, acting as Rui Hua's Vice General Manager and Gao Jie's creditor for the pigeon blood ruby from the competition, confronted CEO Zhou, who tried to deny any wrongdoing. Yu Zhi then threatened to contact a lawyer to sue Fancy and overseas collectors, causing CEO Zhou to immediately yield and ask for terms. Yu Zhi demanded the pigeon blood ruby be returned and that Gao Jie be properly credited. Afterward, they left Fancy.
Gao Jie expressed her gratitude and offered to add Yu Zhi back to her contacts. He advised her not to dwell on the competition's troubles, preferring not to see her disheartened. Gao Jie confided in Chen Pinzhen about her recent ordeals, leaving Chen Pinzhen speechless. Gao Jie felt particularly troubled by the complicated relationships involving Mu Ziyun, Yu Zhi, Gao Hai, and Gao Hui, and the pressure of balancing these connections. Gao Jie went for a job interview.
Although the company was initially impressed, their attitude changed after a secretary spoke to them, and they suddenly claimed the position was no longer available. Gao Jie immediately suspected something was amiss, as this had happened repeatedly. Moments later, she saw Wu Xiaoci conversing with the company staff, revealing the reason for the sudden rejection. Gao Jie confronted Wu Xiaoci, who denied her involvement. Angered, Gao Jie accused Wu Xiaoci of breaking up her parents' marriage.
Wu Xiaoci stopped in her tracks, refusing to acknowledge she had ruined Pan Yue’s marriage, and warned Gao Jie against any schemes, asserting that Gao Hai would never return to Gao Jie and Pan Yue. Upon returning to her car, Wu Xiaoci decided to take further action against Pan Yue. Meanwhile, Gao Jie’s grandfather and Pan Yue arrived home to find workers moving their belongings.
The grandfather was informed that Wu Xiaoci was the new owner and had ordered the move. During the ensuing confrontation with the workers, the grandfather suffered a heart attack, leaving Pan Yue terrified. Caught in heavy rain, Gao Jie took shelter under a cafe awning, where Yu Zhi was coincidentally meeting a client. The rain left Pan Yue and her grandfather soaked and in distress, with Pan Yue crying desperately, unsure how to help her grandfather.
Gao Hai then arrived and, seeing the scene, immediately tried to assist the grandfather, who, overwhelmed by anger, lost consciousness. Inside the cafe, Yu Zhi brought Gao Jie a coffee. She expressed feeling like a small and helpless creature, at the mercy of others. Yu Zhi seized the moment to reiterate his feelings for her.
Gao Jie admitted her affection for Yu Zhi but stated she could not be with him due to their vastly different family backgrounds and career paths, lacking the confidence to overcome such obstacles. Yu Zhi gently held her face, intending to clarify their misunderstandings. He inquired about her relationship with Si Cheng, and Gao Jie, in turn, asked about his relationship with Gao Hui. Yu Zhi clarified that Gao Hui was strictly a business partner.
At that moment, Gao Jie received a phone call informing her of her grandfather’s medical emergency. Yu Zhi quickly drove her to the hospital. Gao Hai explained the situation to Gao Jie, who angrily declared she would not let the matter go. Gao Hai then left. When Gao Jie went to pay for her grandfather's admission to the intensive care unit, she discovered her wallet was missing, and Yu Zhi discreetly covered the expenses.
Gao Hai returned home and furiously confronted Wu Xiaoci. She was shocked to hear that Gao Jie’s grandfather was in the hospital, insisting she hadn't touched him, and had only wanted them to relocate, urging Gao Hai to stop visiting them. Gao Hai reminded her that his only intention was to compensate Pan Yue and Gao Jie. Gao Jie finally broke down in tears, explaining that Pan Yue had been sent to a nursing home and she felt overwhelmed.
She blamed herself for failing to protect her closest family members, her grandfather and Pan Yue. Yu Zhi comforted her, urging her to eat. At the same time, Gao Hui arrived home to find Wu Xiaoci sitting alone and dejected. Having known about Gao Hai's previous marriage, Gao Hui quickly deduced the relationship between Gao Jie and Gao Hai. Wu Xiaoci then revealed the full truth to Gao Hui, acknowledging that she would discover it eventually.
Gao Jie spent the night sitting in the hospital corridor until she was abruptly awakened by a nurse announcing that her grandfather had been rushed back to the emergency room. Yu Zhi arrived with Pan Yue. Gao Jie struggled with how to explain the dire situation to Pan Yue, as her grandfather had been in emergency for hours.
The doors to the emergency room finally opened, and the doctor informed Gao Jie that her grandfather’s prognosis was extremely poor, advising them to prepare for the worst. Gao Jie collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably, while Pan Yue remained oblivious to the tragedy unfolding. Gao Jie cried by her grandfather's bedside, regretting that she hadn't had the chance to properly repay him. Her grandfather, vaguely regaining consciousness, was in severe condition.
He expressed not fearing death, but worrying about who would care for Pan Yue and Gao Jie. Pan Yue, holding her doll, pointed to Yu Zhi. Deeply moved by the scene, Yu Zhi pledged to do everything in his power to care for both Gao Jie and Pan Yue. The grandfather then gently placed Gao Jie's hand into Yu Zhi's, entrusting them to his care.
