My Fated Boy Episode 4 Recap
> My Fated Boy Recap
Recalling their childhood, Lin Yang prepared milk for a young Lu Zhengan, who stubbornly refused to eat. Frustrated, Lin Yang drank the milk herself, scolding him for his behavior. From that day on, Lu Zhengan ate every meal obediently, later reflecting that he may have been touched by her love.
Now, believing there was still time to pursue his goal, Lu Zhengan planned to get closer to Lin Yang by adopting an identity she was familiar with, aiming to catch her off guard. He approached Ma Le, who was concerned that Lu Zhengan's current predicament could tarnish Yunlang Music's reputation and was reluctant to cooperate with his "sadfishing" strategy.
To convince him, Lu Zhengan proposed signing with Yunlang immediately and releasing a new song at the signing ceremony to generate positive publicity, prompting Ma Le's agreement. Meanwhile, Lin Yang discussed her frustration with Yao Dan and Cao Ling over the prospect of having Li Tian, who saw her as a rival, as her assistant—meaning she would have to train her and then ultimately hand her over to Lu Zhengan.
Having worked diligently for years, Lin Yang declared she wouldn't allow herself to be undermined by an unsigned artist. However, Yao Dan and Cao Ling insisted she had no choice but to endure it, as complaining to their boss, Mr. Hua, without a valid reason would only make her appear petty. Lin Yang confided in her friends, admitting that while she knew Lu Zhengan's assessment of her was right, she was unwilling to acknowledge it.
She confessed to feeling like a "salted fish" and disliked her current life, which was devoid of passion and joy, feeling trapped in a monotonous routine like a robot. After all her experiences, she had lost interest in most things, including shopping. Cao Ling, known as "Director Cao" in college for her stern demeanor, countered that everyone goes through such a phase and likened Lin Yang and Yao Dan to "hollow water spinach"—appearing lush but lacking substance.
Cao Ling bluntly advised Lin Yang to find a boyfriend and Yao Dan to have a child, criticizing them for living their lives backward. Despite her friends questioning her own single, childless status, Cao Ling insisted on taking them out for drinks, claiming that her advice, though not sweet, was nutritious—and for women in their thirties, nutrition is often more important than taste. At the KTV, Yao Dan, fresh from an argument with her husband, sang with excessive enthusiasm.
Lin Yang excused herself and unexpectedly encountered Xie Nanke, who was there with a client. Seeing her attire, he asked if she was at a themed party. Lin Yang inquired about Lu Zhengan, learning he had moved out of Xie Nanke's place. She expressed concern, noting that Lu Zhengan, new to Qingning, had nowhere else to go. After their awkward encounter, Lin Yang saw Lu Zhengan's social media post of him eating instant noodles and couldn't resist calling him.
Lu Zhengan's initial delight at her call turned to anger when he learned she was out drinking while sick. He declared he was "too lazy to mind her business anymore" but implied he was on his way, causing Lin Yang to mutter about the "dumb kid" who dared hang up on her. Returning to the room, Lin Yang found Yao Dan in tears.
Yao Dan revealed her husband no longer wanted to be a DINK and now desired a "fruit of their love," claiming he "loved her too much" after six years of marriage. Pressured by him and his mother, Yao Dan felt trapped, unwilling to have a child at her age but too afraid to divorce. Cao Ling couldn't offer to host her, as her daughter, Tong Tong, had a low-grade fever and was being looked after by her own mother.
Lin Yang reflected on Cao Ling, her gentle and virtuous university classmate. Three years after graduation, Cao Ling fell for Xiao Zhe, a man three years her junior. Despite opposition, they married within a year and conceived Tong Tong. However, the mundane realities of marriage extinguished their passion, and the birth of their daughter exacerbated their issues. Xiao Zhe eventually left, declaring he was unsuited for family life, leaving Cao Ling with the house, car, and their child.
To protect her dignity, Cao Ling became a single mother in secret, telling no one. She struggled alone until she reached a breaking point and tearfully called her mother for help. Seven years after graduation, Lin Yang reconnected with Cao Ling and helped her secure a position at Ruiye, carefully concealing her past so that no one else knew about her ex-husband and daughter.
Later that night, as Lin Yang and Cao Ling supported a heavily inebriated Yao Dan by the roadside, Lu Zhengan appeared. Drunk, Yao Dan fawned over him, mistaking him for a designated driver. Lu Zhengan explained he was living at his company and had learned Lin Yang's location from his cousin, Xie Nanke, adding that he brought his driver's license just in case.
In the car, Yao Dan continued her drunken rambling, asking if he was single and blurting out that his habit of calling Lin Yang "wifey" was one-sided, just as Lin Yang's treatment of him as a younger brother was also unilateral. An embarrassed Lin Yang quickly played a song to change the subject. Upon reaching Lin Yang's building, Lu Zhengan playfully called her "wifey" and then unexpectedly embraced her, saying he needed to "add some oil."
He asked her to say something encouraging, like "You're the best," to "fill up his tank." Lin Yang noted how much taller he'd grown and patted his head, obliging with a mechanical "You're the best. You can do it." Lu Zhengan pressed her to "put some heart into it," prompting a genuine response. Lin Yang thanked him sincerely, acknowledging how difficult it must be for him to worry about her while still finding his own footing in a new city.
She urged him to take care of himself, reassuring him that he was the best and would be the coolest even if he didn't succeed. Lu Zhengan looked down, trying to hide his emotions. Noticing this, Lin Yang asked if he was crying, which he quickly denied. He hugged her again, whispering that his tank was full and he was sharing some "oil" with her, then ran back to his car and drove away without looking back.
The encounter renewed Lin Yang's resolve. She reflected that while life is hard for everyone, she still had the pride of a single career woman. At thirty-one, she could lose, but she would never admit defeat. The next morning, Lin Yang awoke to her motivational alarm, meticulously applied her makeup, and returned to work. Li Tian greeted her with a smile, welcoming her back and expressing hope for their "peaceful coexistence" and "pleasant cooperation." Despite her words, Li Tian secretly observed Lin Yang and was later seen searching online for advice on how to deal with a love rival.
