My Boss Episode 8 Recap
> My Boss Recap
Xu Jun’s older brother posted a video online accusing Cheng Yao of deliberately concealing Xu Jun’s requests for reconciliation, which drove him to despair and ultimately to take his own life. Public opinion quickly escalated, and Cheng Yao was labeled as an unscrupulous lawyer profiting from someone’s misfortune. Qian Heng brought Cheng Yao to meet with Gu Beiqing, hoping that Gu Beiqing could provide a subjective analysis of the case without relying on evidence.
Gu Beiqing explained that Xu Jun had been suffering from depression for a long time. In their marriage, both Xu Jun and Bai Xingmeng had their own agendas. Although Xu Jun tried to leverage Bai Xingmeng’s fame to grow his company, Bai Xingmeng proved more cunning at critical moments. After meeting a new lover during the marriage, she set up a series of traps that left Xu Jun with no way out.
The new lover’s company eventually gained the upper hand. Gu Beiqing offered to release partial evidence, if necessary, to prove that Xu Jun’s death had nothing to do with Cheng Yao and to help her fend off online attacks. Qian Heng immediately rejected the offer, saying the matter was within his ability to handle and did not require help from outsiders. When Gu Beiqing raised his glass for a toast, Qian Heng directly asked him to leave.
Cheng Yao once again thanked Qian Heng for helping her see the truth and alleviating her guilt. Cheng Yao received many threatening items and was worried about dragging Cheng Xi into the matter. She called to check on her, though she couldn’t say much directly. In the age of the internet, nothing stays hidden. Cheng Xi pretended not to know anything to keep her sister from worrying.
Deng Ming’s mother was about to have surgery, and because the elderly woman had always been fond of Cheng Xi, Deng Ming hadn’t told her about their divorce. He asked Cheng Xi to visit his mother before the operation. Cheng Xi agreed but warned Deng Ming that personal matters and justice were separate—she would settle the score with him for framing Cheng Yao in due time. As for holding Bai Xingmeng accountable, Wu Jun and Qian Heng shared the same determination.
Each drafted an appeal, both resolved to restore Junheng Law Firm’s reputation. Qian Heng instructed Wu Jun to first release a statement declaring that the Bai Xingmeng case was solely handled by Qian Heng, and then proceed with the next steps. Wu Jun delivered the lawyer’s letter to Deng Ming in person, and the two exchanged a few barbed words before Deng Ming had no choice but to accept the lawsuit.
Qian Heng postponed a meeting with an important client, worried about Cheng Yao’s emotional state. When he returned to the apartment, Cheng Yao was clearly in low spirits and hadn’t prepared dinner, assuming Qian Heng had gone to meet the client. Qian Heng took her to the supermarket and bought lots of snacks, encouraging her to pick whatever she liked.
Back at the apartment, he said he wouldn’t eat snacks at night, and if they were left until the next day, they’d expire and be thrown out anyway. Cheng Yao, of course, couldn’t bear to waste them and ended up eating them herself. In truth, Qian Heng had deliberately created this opportunity to help Cheng Yao vent.
As she sat there hugging the snacks, eating and crying, Qian Heng, unsure of what to say to comfort her, silently handed her his handkerchief to wipe her tears. Back in her room, Cheng Yao sobbed loudly. Hearing her cries, Qian Heng felt a pang of sympathy but didn’t know how to show it. He returned to his bedroom and promptly began arranging a strategy to counter the online exposure by Bai Xingmeng’s fans.
After the situation was brought under control, Bao Rui and Yu Fei gossiped about how surprisingly concerned Qian Heng was for Cheng Yao—even working overtime overnight to change public opinion. Cheng Yao didn’t dare check Weibo, knowing she’d only see insults about herself. Bao Rui encouraged her to go online, and Cheng Yao discovered that many people had issued apologies to her. After Yu Fei explained, Cheng Yao realized it was Qian Heng who had helped her.
Still wanting to comfort Cheng Yao, Qian Heng awkwardly searched online for stress-relief methods and found one—paper shredding. But Cheng Yao felt that doing such a meaningless task was a waste of time. Just then, the cleaning lady passed by and offered to help shred the paper, and Cheng Yao agreed.
