Given Chen Qingmei’s claims, Qian Heng proposed conducting a paternity test using Dong Shan’s father’s DNA. Bao Rui believed that the credibility of a paternity test alone was insufficient and that it should be supported with more evidence to confirm the identity of Chen Qingmei’s child.

Cheng Yao suggested using the process of elimination: if the child could be proven to have a biological connection to Dong Shan’s father, and Dong Shan had no brothers, then it would indirectly confirm the child’s identity. In addition, Chen Qingmei’s prenatal check-up records and surveillance footage from the suburban villa could also serve as evidence. This analysis satisfied Qian Heng, who immediately stated that the next steps would follow Cheng Yao’s approach.

Standing to the side, Bao Rui nervously asked if that was a compliment for Cheng Yao. Wanting to focus entirely on work and stop overthinking, Cheng Yao decided to temporarily move out of the apartment and put all her energy into the case. When Cheng Yao returned to the apartment to pack her clothes, Qian Heng left her a note, telling her not to stay in a hotel just to keep up appearances if she didn’t have money.

He had already moved back to the villa, so she could stay in the apartment and concentrate more on the case. Meanwhile, Qian Heng didn’t leave until he saw the lights go out in Cheng Yao’s apartment from his car, ensuring she had gone to bed. Deng Ming got drunk and showed up at Cheng Xi’s place, speaking from the heart.

He said he wasn’t happy in his current marriage and that what he missed most were the days he spent with Cheng Xi. He warned her not to get too close to Wu Jun, claiming Wu Jun had dated many women and that Cheng Xi would eventually be abandoned. As he spoke, he tried to hug her, but Cheng Xi forcefully pushed him away, splashed him with water, and threw him out.

After Deng Ming left, Cheng Xi recalled her school days with Wu Jun and realized he wasn’t as bad as Deng Ming described. At the very least, they had shared a precious friendship during their student years. Cheng Yao and Bao Rui took the opportunity to go to the nursing home when Dong Min and her mother were not around, and applied to perform a paternity test beside the old Mr. Dong’s hospital bed. As soon as Mr.

Dong heard he might have a grandson, he signed the consent form without hesitation. A caregiver standing nearby mocked Cheng Yao for disregarding morality just for money. Cheng Yao looked confused, and as soon as she walked out of the room, she saw that Chen Qingmei had been waiting for a long time. Chen Qingmei was impatient and eager to proceed with the paternity test, even demanding a blood draw despite the risk of miscarriage.

Accompanying Chen Qingmei was a man neither of them recognized—it seemed Chen Qingmei had found a new boyfriend quickly. Her relationship with Dong Shan was purely motivated by a desire for his wealth. Bao Rui also despised Chen Qingmei deep down but, due to professional responsibility, refrained from expressing personal opinions. Deng Ming ordered flowers online and had them delivered to Cheng Xi’s door.

Upon learning that the flowers were from Deng Ming, Cheng Xi threw the bouquet straight into the trash. Wu Jun asked Cheng Xi out, but she told him not to contact her again. She feared Deng Ming’s strong jealousy and manipulative ways could pose a threat to Wu Jun. Wu Jun insisted that he wouldn’t back down because of Deng Ming, but Cheng Xi still asked him to stay away.

Coincidentally, Qian Heng invited Wu Jun for a foot bath and wellness session. Wu Jun poured out his troubles, while Qian Heng couldn’t help but think of the foot soak set Cheng Yao had prepared for him a few days earlier. Now that the mood had changed, a feeling of loss crept in. After work, Cheng Yao returned to the apartment and, out of habit, prepared a late-night snack, though no one was there to share it.

She suddenly found herself missing the days of living with Qian Heng. The court soon held a hearing and delivered a verdict. With ample evidence, Chen Qingmei won the case. Dong Min was furious and accused Cheng Yao of being money-minded, saying she had foolishly considered Cheng Yao a friend. She then turned her anger on Mr. Dong, who became even more enraged and raised his cane to hit her. Cheng Yao quickly stepped in to stop him.

Jiang Wenxiu pulled Dong Min out of the courtroom. Qian Heng noticed that Cheng Yao’s arm had been scratched by the cane and approached to check if she was hurt. Cheng Yao said nothing and left the courthouse alone.
