Love Like White Jade Episode 4 Recap
> Love Like White Jade Recap
Shui Wuxia approached Jiang Baiyu, expressing her bewilderment at his contrasting personalities. She noted that he could profoundly discuss national foundations and economy one moment, then flippantly declare himself busy with drinking the next, prompting her to ask which was his true self. Jiang Baiyu feigned ignorance, asking what she meant. Shui Wuxia explained that she knew he was intelligent and sensible as a child, and believed his current frivolous behavior stemmed from a past misfortune.
She felt his true self was the one capable of pragmatically analyzing the common people's livelihoods from something as simple as a bird's nest. While acknowledging the pain of losing a loved one, Shui Wuxia emphasized that living a more positive life was the best way to honor them. She added that he was fortunate to have Old Madam Jiang, his father, and Young Master Tianling by his side, something she deeply envied.
Elsewhere, Yun Cheng arrived to deliver a facial mask to Qi Delong, while Young Master Tianling secretly watched. Qi Delong refused the gift, stating their previous encounter was merely by chance and she hadn't requested anything. Seeing Yun Cheng dejected, Young Master Tianling approached him, offering to relay the mask to Qi Delong after her lesson.
Young Master Tianling then asked Yun Cheng for advice, framing it as a query from a "friend" who felt flustered when seeing a particular young lady and moody in her absence. Yun Cheng quickly deduced that Young Master Tianling was speaking about himself. He confirmed that the "friend" was indeed falling for the girl and encouraged him to pursue her. He then gave him a book, "Thirty-Six Tactics of Love".
Instructor Hou subjected Jiang Baiyu and Jiang Tianling to rigorous arm strength training. During this, Jiang Baiyu's old wound reopened, causing him considerable pain. Jiang Baiyu found Shui Wuxia brewing medicine for Shen Qingli. He offered her some Durian Candy, and volunteered to help brew the medicine. Jiang Baiyu repeatedly tried to drink the concoction, but Shui Wuxia consistently prevented him, and he ultimately did not get to drink it.
Later, Jiang Baiyu expressed his desire to go out, but Shui Wuxia had assigned numerous maids to guard him, making escape difficult. With Yun Cheng's assistance, Jiang Baiyu disguised himself as a maid. They staged a dramatic scene where Yun Cheng, pretending to be an abusive nanny, "beat" Jiang Baiyu, who feigned spitting blood. Sympathizing with the "abused maid," the other nannies allowed "her" to leave and rest, thus enabling Jiang Baiyu's successful escape from the manor.
Jiang Baiyu, now disguised as Shen Qingli, met Shui Wuxia. She immediately noticed his re-opened wound and cleaned it with alcohol before dressing it, teasing him for being a brave swordsman yet flinching at ointment. Noticing that "Shen Qingli" hadn't eaten, he offered to take her to a stall. At a millet pancake vendor, "Shen Qingli" explained it had become his regular spot for midnight snacks. Shui Wuxia inquired about his mask.
He revealed that he had been disfigured in a childhood accident that also took his father's life, leading him to wear the mask ever since. He wondered if his father might have lived had he learned martial arts earlier. Shui Wuxia offered him a comforting perspective, likening it to optimists and pessimists viewing the same day differently. She explained that even seemingly extravagant acts like eating bird's nest supported merchants, and unpleasant-smelling durian could be delicious.
She reassured him that his past was not his fault, and that his heroic endeavors might be a way of fulfilling his father's aspirations. As they finished their meal, they suddenly witnessed bullies harassing people. " Shen Qingli" suggested they act as heroes, and Shui Wuxia eagerly agreed. They confronted the bullies, took their money, and scattered it, causing a chaotic scramble among the bystanders that allowed them to make a joyful escape. Both were very happy.
Later, Old Madam Jiang discovered Jiang Baiyu's unauthorized outing. She confronted Jiang Baiyu, angrily questioning if the girls at Lantern Boudoir were "goddesses who could snatch his soul." Turning to Shui Wuxia, Old Madam Jiang reminded her that her role was to mentor and advise Jiang Baiyu. She sternly criticized Shui Wuxia for not only allowing him to leave but also for breaking rules herself. Shui Wuxia acknowledged her mistake and apologized, and Old Madam Jiang warned her not to cause further disappointment, to which Shui Wuxia promised to fulfill her duty.
