Guilty about her actions, Gui Lili asks Qian Fei to help retrieve her passport from the apartment. As they search the room, Li Yifei catches them and dryly mocks their poor acting. He tells Gui Lili that they could have broken up with dignity instead of sneaking around. Repulsed by his pride, Gui Lili points out that he is struggling so much that he has to rent a room, yet he still acts superior.
She openly admits she is leaving him for money, arguing that he has provided neither financial security nor emotional warmth. She even taunts him, claiming he will never manage to surpass his father. Li Yifei calmly stops her, revealing he had already decided to let her go before renting the apartment, wanting to ensure she was settled first.
He hands her a bank card containing over a hundred thousand yuan—money he borrowed from friends—and advises her to use it to secure a place of her own so she won't be left with nothing if Mr. Niu ever treats her poorly. He bids her a quiet farewell. After a tearful Gui Lili leaves, Li Yifei immediately throws himself into his work, determined to investigate the real reason behind Shanlifang's push for a complicated joint sponsorship with Hejing Securities.
To cheer Li Yifei up, Qian Fei prepares breakfast the next morning. They joke about the apartment, with Qian Fei suggesting the place might be cursed since both of them experienced sudden breakups right after moving in. Concerned about Li Yifei locking himself in his room all day, Qian Fei later pounds on his door, threatening to call the police unless he makes a sound. She cooks him lunch and leaves it at his door. Li Yifei devours the meal and praises her cooking, though he later refuses to help prep dinner and proudly claims he would rather eat out. Meanwhile, Li Yifei's childhood friend, Da Jun, deals with his overbearing mother, who pressures him to find a girlfriend. While Da Jun is cooking wontons, his mother meddles with his computer and accidentally deletes the valuable gaming equipment he spent six months grinding for.
The discarded gear is instantly snapped up online by Qian Fei's best friend, Dang Yu. Devastated by the loss of his hard work, Da Jun seeks out Li Yifei to complain and ends up drinking heavily. Later that night, Dang Yu and Qian Fei are taking a walk when they spot a heavily intoxicated Da Jun vomiting, looked after by Li Yifei. Recognizing Dang Yu as a bartender he had seen before, Da Jun stumbles toward her.
Mistaking him for a hostile drunk, Dang Yu swiftly flips him over her shoulder. The next day, after the misunderstanding is cleared up, Qian Fei tells Li Yifei that Dang Yu only spared Da Jun from a police visit out of respect for them. To return the favor for the lunch she cooked, Li Yifei reveals that a friend of his wants to take over her cancelled wedding banquet reservation on October 18th.
Thrilled to recover her deposit, Qian Fei happily promises to prepare his breakfasts for the next month. Over at Shanlifang, Wang Ruohai is working late when Liao Shiyu drops by his office and invites him for a midnight snack. When he steps out, he is stunned to find she has hired a star chef to prepare a high-end meal on-site. Touched by her gesture, Wang Ruohai holds her hand.
Liao Shiyu is deeply moved, confessing she has been waiting a very long time for him to take the initiative. Meanwhile, Qian Fei faces harsh rejections in her job hunt due to her lack of front-office experience and age discrimination, with one company even demanding a five-year contract prohibiting marriage or pregnancy. Stressed by her massive mortgage, she feels backed into a corner. Observing her financial distress, Li Yifei points out that desperation ruins a person's judgment.
He proposes hiring her as his housekeeper for 100 yuan an hour. Qian Fei accepts the offer. To help her further, Li Yifei transfers her the depreciation fee for the water-damaged floor. Realizing she cannot let her pride get in the way of her mortgage, she accepts the money. At the bar, Da Jun clumsily apologizes to Dang Yu for his drunken behavior.
She accepts his apology, serves him a milk-based drink, and advises him to listen to his mother by drinking less and staying out of bars. Back at the apartment, Qian Fei mentions that she has chosen Director Fang Yun of Hejing Securities as her professional idol. Li Yifei is skeptical of Fang Yun's character, but he suggests that since Qian Fei was only laid off due to backend downsizing, she should apply to Fang Yun's department.
If Fang Yun truly values talent, she would hire her even for a front-office role. Inspired by his advice, Qian Fei heads over to Hejing Securities early the next morning, waiting outside the entrance to speak with Fang Yun face-to-face.
