Xu Wei had prepared a romantic display of lights in his home, but Fang Qi, feeling unwell after having too much to drink, walked right past them. As she reached for a cold beverage from the refrigerator, Xu Wei quickly intervened, taking it from her. He began to warm her a drink while lecturing her about taking better care of herself, especially after drinking, and expressed disappointment that she hadn't noticed the changes he made to the room.
However, when he turned around, he found she had already retreated to her room. Meanwhile, Mo Lingze had taken a drunken Xu Qingyou back to his own apartment. Gently, he wiped her face and hands with a warm towel. In her dazed state, Xu Qingyou believed she was dreaming, softly caressing Mo Lingze's face and complimenting his handsome appearance.
However, she declared that he was only for distant admiration, not for a serious relationship, emphatically stating she would never be with a man like him. Mo Lingze appeared somewhat disheartened as Xu Qingyou soon drifted off to sleep. The next morning, Fang Qi woke up feeling much better. Xu Wei had prepared ginger tea for her hangover and continued to nag her about her health, reminding her to avoid excessive drinking in the future.
Fang Qi nodded in agreement, though she didn't seem to take his warnings to heart. Later, she finally noticed the lights Xu Wei had set up, leading to a playful exchange where he threatened to take them down after her lukewarm reaction, much to her annoyance. Xu Qingyou awoke to find herself in Mo Lingze's apartment, which was disheveled with clothes strewn across the sofa. Despite the mess, a beautifully prepared breakfast sat on the table.
She recalled the events of the previous night, feeling a wave of embarrassment that Mo Lingze had witnessed her drunken state. At work, Xu Qingyou encountered Yifu's music producer. Now that Yifu was signed with Shangger Capital, there would be increased collaboration with Xu Qingyou's live streaming platform. The producer, expressing gratitude for her company's support, invited Xu Qingyou to dinner that evening. Xu Qingyou readily accepted and offered to treat, unaware that Mo Lingze had overheard their conversation.
As Xu Qingyou prepared to leave for dinner with the producer, Mo Lingze intercepted them. He fabricated an urgent work-related issue, claiming that as a high-pressure investor working on a major merger, he required a clean and orderly environment. He insisted it was Xu Qingyou's duty to immediately return to his apartment and clean up the mess she had made. Feeling pressured, the producer reluctantly canceled their dinner plans.
Upon returning to Mo Lingze’s apartment, Xu Qingyou discovered he had already hired a cleaner, Aunt Li, who had tidied most of the place. Mo Lingze dismissed the cleaner, insisting that since Xu Qingyou had made the mess, it was her responsibility to clean it, especially given the presence of his "trade secrets." His true intention, however, was to force a private conversation.
He pressed her about her true feelings, asking why she had said she would never be serious with someone like him. Xu Qingyou reiterated her decision not to pursue a relationship, stating that since it had never truly begun, it should end now. She explained her desire for "safety," perceiving him as a "trap." She described him as a dangerous individual whose advances stemmed from a "desire to win" and "possessiveness."
Concluding that she couldn't afford to be involved with him, she stated her intention to maintain a safe distance. After receiving a call, she quickly left, promising to transfer him the cleaning fee. Back home, Xu Wei prepared hotpot for himself and Fang Qi. He learned that she was upset because her ex-boyfriend, Qu Kai, was flaunting his new relationship on social media, something he never did when they were together.
Xu Wei urged her to forget Qu Kai, emphasizing that holding onto the past would prevent her from moving on. Fang Qi grew angry, accusing Xu Wei of meddling, though his words clearly struck a nerve. Accidentally splashing hotpot chili into her eye, she rushed to clean it. Xu Wei instinctively helped by pulling back her hair, and Fang Qi glanced at him in silence. Learning that Fan Yunxi’s mother had been hospitalized, Xu Qingyou went to visit.
Fan Yunxi’s mother was visibly happy to see her and finally agreed to eat. Fan Yunxi explained that his mother's health was fragile and asked Xu Qingyou to keep their breakup a secret, fearing the news would hinder her recovery and upcoming surgery. Feeling compassionate, Xu Qingyou agreed and even offered to stay overnight at the hospital to provide reassurance. Elsewhere, a glamorously dressed Lin Siyu approached Mo Lingze.
He ignored her, so she feigned a fall, claiming to have hurt her leg. Just then, Mo Lingze received an urgent call from his superior to pick someone up at the hospital for a due diligence matter. Compelled to go, he ended up taking Lin Siyu with him. At the hospital, they coincidentally encountered Xu Qingyou and Fan Yunxi. Lin Siyu clung possessively to Mo Lingze's arm, loudly claiming her injury occurred during a date with him.
Seeing Xu Qingyou with Fan Yunxi, she made suggestive comments about their long-standing relationship and impending "good news," implying they were there for a pre-marital check-up. Annoyed by her theatrics, Mo Lingze abruptly walked away, with Lin Siyu rushing to follow. Frustrated by Mo Lingze's elusiveness, Lin Siyu sought advice from Wang Ji. Drawing on his understanding of male psychology, Wang Ji suggested she adopt a "suppress first, then raise" strategy.
He advised her to act more dignified and less attainable, explaining this would pique Mo Lingze's "desire to win" and prompt him to actively pursue her. Later, Xu Wei observed a student sketching nostalgic items like old cassette tapes and a walkman. The student explained that these objects were a record of his youth, representing time and effort invested in past infatuations—things that belong to memory, not the present. This made Xu Wei reflect on Fang Qi's struggle.
He realized she couldn't let go of her past not just because it was part of her, but because, as she had admitted, she couldn't stand seeing someone she disliked doing better than her. That evening, Xu Qingyou found herself replaying the hospital scene with Mo Lingze and Lin Siyu. Annoyed, she stepped out of her apartment, reminding herself to stay out of their complicated dynamic. As she opened her door, she ran into Mo Lingze returning home.
When he asked where she was going, Xu Qingyou blurted out that she was taking out the trash, despite her empty hands. When he pointed out the missing trash, she retorted that it had "flown away" and was none of his concern before retreating inside.
