For years, Ling Yue had been unable to overcome the pain of losing her husband and daughter. Princess Baoqing, observing Ling Yue's recent melancholic state, showed her concern. Seeing the well-behaved Princess Baoqing, Ling Yue's thoughts turned even more strongly to her own biological daughter. As Princess Baoqing had grown into a young woman, Ling Yue intended to arrange a suitable marriage for her. However, Princess Baoqing revealed her affection for Jing Xiu.
Upon hearing this, Ling Yue immediately forbade the idea, sternly reminding her of the distinction of seniority between a princess and the State Preceptor. Ling Yue confessed that after so many years, she still couldn't truly comprehend Jing Xiu's true nature, deeming such a complex individual unsuitable for Princess Baoqing. Princess Baoqing, upset, left Ling Yue's room. She then overheard Lan'er, Ling Yue's personal maid, conversing with another servant.
Lan'er inadvertently revealed that Ling Yue was still searching for her biological daughter, speaking disrespectfully of Princess Baoqing in the process. Princess Baoqing learned that she was adopted; Ling Yue had found her as a baby, carried on the back of a mythical turtle by the Dayue Lake, after suffering the immense grief of losing her own child. Growing increasingly furious, Princess Baoqing suppressed her anger and ordered her own maid to find out Lan'er's whereabouts after her shift.
After sending her maid away, Princess Baoqing walked alone to a secluded spot within a dense forest. There, among a pile of rocks, was an old turtle's shell, firmly secured by chains. In this solitude, Princess Baoqing dropped her facade of sweetness, revealing her cruel nature.
She lamented to the chained turtle, speculating that her Royal Mother's refusal to let her be with Brother Jingxiu was because she wasn't Ling Yue's biological daughter, despite Ling Yue's daughter having been dead for years. She vowed to kill, one by one, the lowly servants in the palace who dared to gossip about her. She expressed her inherent lack of kindness and her intolerance for anyone who offended her.
She even admitted to having killed the old turtle, who had once saved her, for trying to escape, subsequently chaining its lifeless shell to the rocks as a permanent prison. Her anger mounting, Princess Baoqing then grew irritated by the birds singing in the trees and began throwing stones at them, wishing to kill them all. Yunfeng, passing by, witnessed Princess Baoqing's vicious behavior. He attempted to intervene, asking why she continued to attack birds that she had already struck.
Princess Baoqing sharply rebuffed him, telling him to mind his own business. Yunfeng then inquired about any recent abnormalities in Dark Capital Mountain. Princess Baoqing, holding a grudge against him, cunningly suggested that the mountain, once the Demon Lord's burial ground shrouded in impenetrable demonic aura, had recently become harmless, allowing ordinary people to enter and seek treasures from the ancient battlefield. Yunfeng was skeptical of her words but decided to investigate.
Once inside Dark Capital Mountain, he quickly realized he was being followed. He managed to hide and overheard his pursuers discussing how their lives were at stake if they failed to find him, confirming Princess Baoqing's malicious intent. After shaking off his trackers, Yunfeng continued his investigation, discovering that the demonic aura in the mountain had not diminished but had actually intensified. One day, Princess Baoqing came to visit Jing Xiu, who was preoccupied with state affairs.
Left to her own devices, she wandered around his study, touching a potted plant on his desk, only to be severely bitten. Jing Xiu explained it was a Ghost Vine from the Innumerable Great Peaks, which sustained itself by feeding on the blood of humans and beasts. Its venom caused excruciating pain, burning the heart and gnawing at the bones. Jing Xiu revealed he kept the plant as a painful reminder of how good it was to be alive.
Baoqing offered to destroy the dangerous plant, but Jing Xiu insisted on keeping it. Meanwhile, Lingxi secretly returned to Peach Forest hoping to find a remedy for her cold disease from Le Bo. However, Le Bo was absent. Upon seeing her, Chengyan lunged at her, scolding her for being bewitched by a "wild man" and for causing him to be beaten by their teacher and Senior Sister.
Lingxi, not adept at combat, was quickly knocked to the ground, getting her face muddy. Feigning injury, she cried out in pain, prompting Chengyan to rush to help her up. Lingxi seized the opportunity to pull him down, covering his face with mud as well. After their usual playful scuffle, Lingxi inquired about a magical artifact Le Bo had mentioned, capable of restoring anything. Chengyan casually identified it as the Water Moon Cauldron from the South Pole Immortal Continent.
He explained that the cauldron had three forms, with the second being the one that could restore all things. He added that the divine artifact possessed its own temperament, and even the Old Man of South Pole Immortal Continent had failed to make it acknowledge him as its master after tens of thousands of years of refinement. Lingxi silently absorbed this information.
She then feigned a sudden craving for the peach biscuits made by High Immortal Liuyun, sending Chengyan off to retrieve them. Once Chengyan was gone, she frantically searched through books, finally locating "Freezing Cold Illness Treatment." She carefully tucked it into her storage pouch and hurried back to Heavenly Palace. Elsewhere, Jiuchen, concerned by Yunfeng's prolonged absence, instructed Siming and Kaiyang to guard him. He then performed a soul-departure technique to personally investigate Dark Capital Mountain.
As he expected, the demonic aura there was exceedingly dense, and the long-slumbering Demon Lord reawakened upon his arrival. The Demon Lord boasted that if Jiuchen could awaken, so too could he revive, eager for another confrontation. Jiuchen immediately suppressed the demonic aura with his magic, vowing that such a day would never come. Simultaneously, in the Heavenly Palace, officials, including Ziguang, were still debating Jiuchen's punishment for past transgressions, advocating for more severe consequences beyond mere confinement.
Lingxi joyfully arrived at the South Gate of Heaven, where she encountered Ziguang and Fangsheng. Noticing her storage pouch, they accused her of hiding something and forcibly seized it, emptying its contents onto the ground. As Lingxi scrambled to pick up her belongings, Ziguang cruelly stepped on her hand, causing her immense pain. This scene was witnessed by Jiuchen's disembodied soul. Frowning, Jiuchen delivered a powerful, invisible slap to Ziguang.
Confused by the unseen assault, Ziguang, perhaps sensing an unseen power, quickly pulled Fangsheng away. Lingxi suspected Jiuchen had intervened to save her, but her suspicions deepened when she returned to Fuyun Hall and learned that Jiuchen had not left his chambers, leaving her perplexed. Jing Xiu consulted Wu, who gravely informed him that his heart's demon was worsening.
Wu explained that Jing Xiu was a cultivation genius with exceptional talent, only half a step away from achieving High God status. However, his profound obsession had trapped him at his current level for centuries, causing his cultivation to regress. Wu knew Jing Xiu intended to use Zhonghao to open the Spirit-Binding Abyss and urged him to release his obsession and find peace. Jing Xiu, however, declared his sole desire in life was to live comfortably and freely.
Unable to persuade him, Wu implored Jing Xiu to remember his father's teachings for the sake of the Shanling Tribe's myriad lives, no matter the circumstances, as the fate of millions rested on him and Ling Yue. As they spoke, Princess Baoqing arrived with her maid, bringing ginseng soup for Jing Xiu. Wu discreetly excused himself.
While Jing Xiu drank the soup, Princess Baoqing confided her anxieties, expressing her fear that Ling Yue would no longer cherish her if her biological daughter were to return. Jing Xiu was surprised to hear that Ling Yue was still searching for her daughter. He calmly reassured Princess Baoqing but found himself recalling a past memory: a time when he went to aid Ling Yue, who had desperately pleaded with him to protect her daughter.
He remembered finding the young princess just as demonic chaos caused a landslide, seemingly burying her. He now realized that he had never actually witnessed the little princess's demise with his own eyes. By a riverside, Qingyao finally located the elusive Yanxin Flower, a crucial ingredient for the Cold Dispelling Pellet. She used her magic to hasten its blooming. Just as the flower blossomed, a Bifang bird suddenly appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and scratched her hand.
As she prepared to retaliate, Yunfeng unexpectedly arrived, pushing the Bifang bird away with a powerful strike and engaging it in battle. Qingyao, focused on her critical task, disregarded Yunfeng's heroic display, quickly harvested the short-lived medicinal flower, and flew back to Yaowang Cave to begin refining the medicine. By the time Yunfeng managed to subdue and knock the Bifang bird onto the riverbank, Qingyao had already vanished.
That night, Lingxi returned to Fuyun Hall to find Jiuchen waiting for her. He inquired about her whereabouts throughout the day. Lingxi truthfully reported that she had visited the Zhuri Bird and even managed to collect one of its feathers. Jiuchen, finding her completely unrepentant, patiently advised her against wandering aimlessly and encouraged her to remain within the hall when she had no pressing matters.
Lingxi, eager to comply, then took the opportunity to request permission to convert her room into a medicine lab. Jiuchen, assuming she wished to further her medical skills, readily agreed. Back at Yaowang Cave, Qingyao diligently worked on refining the Cold Dispelling Pellet according to the prescription. Yunfeng, undeterred, pursued her to the cave, only to be blocked by a medicine boy who explained that a doctor must not be disturbed during the refining process.
Annoyed by what he perceived as Qingyao's coldness, Yunfeng reluctantly departed. Meanwhile, Lingxi was also intensely refining medicine, though her efforts caused quite a commotion. The entire Fuyun Hall shook, prompting Shisan and Huayan to investigate. They found Lingxi looking disheveled, as if struck by lightning. Huayan even suggested Lingxi abandon alchemy and instead practice her teacher's Whale-Devouring Great Technique, which involved consuming copious amounts of spiritual energy-rich dishes daily to achieve immortality in ten to twenty thousand years. Lingxi, unwilling to listen to their sarcastic remarks, promptly closed her door to continue her efforts. Interestingly, Shisan seemed quite intrigued by Huayan's Whale-Devouring Great Technique.
