Following his decision to sacrifice himself, Jiuchen subdued his master, the Heavenly Supreme Lord, to prevent any intervention. Jiuchen confessed that Lingxi was the only person he was reluctant to leave and pleaded with his master to watch over her and protect her from harm in his absence. Afterward, Jiuchen met with a distraught Yunfeng, who wept that Jiuchen's fate of eternally guarding the Spirit-Binding Abyss was no different from death.

Feigning a calm demeanor, Jiuchen simply advised Yunfeng to marry Qingyao in a grand ceremony once his identity was restored, urging him not to let her down. Meanwhile, Lingxi was joyfully designing her wedding gown, eventually falling asleep from exhaustion. Jiuchen paid her a quiet, final visit, carrying her to bed and kissing her forehead before departing with profound reluctance.

At the Spirit-Binding Abyss, he transformed into his true form but found he could not completely seal the demonic gate with his power alone. Yuan Tong, now a frenzied demon covered in scars, appeared and gloated that she was responsible for the breach. Jiuchen calmly informed her that her evil deeds had filled her with death aura, and her spirit would soon dissipate into a wisp of resentment.

Uncaring, Yuan Tong madly declared that she would gladly become a resentful spirit if it meant staying with him. Devoid of any remaining affection, Jiuchen watched indifferently as she stumbled towards the gate and disintegrated, her soul scattering. The next morning, an uneasy Lingxi, plagued by nightmares, sent a note to Fuyun Hall to check on Jiuchen. Yunfeng intercepted it and, mimicking his senior brother's handwriting, replied that they were not a good match and she should move on.

As Lingxi stared at the letter in shock, her maid rushed in to report that Yunfeng's stone statue at Self-Realization Cliff had shattered. Lingxi hurried there to find Qingyao weeping over the broken stones, believing Yunfeng had perished from his lightning punishment. Disturbed by Jiuchen's silence after Yunfeng's apparent death, Lingxi rushed to Fuyun Hall but found it sealed by a barrier.

From inside, Yunfeng, mimicking Jiuchen's voice, coldly stated that Lingxi was a trial he had to overcome and that he was severing their ties to enter seclusion. Refusing to believe him, Lingxi insisted they could face any trouble together. The standoff continued for sixteen days, until her duties to the Shanling Tribe forced her to leave. Before departing, she reminded him of their exchanged marriage contract, declaring she would always be his wife.

After she left, the Heavenly Supreme Lord arrived, and a weeping Yunfeng confessed the truth about Jiuchen's sacrifice. When a demon dragon caused chaos in the Western Seas, Yunfeng, acting on Jiuchen's prior instructions and in his name, dispatched Kaiyang and Hanzhang to contain the situation. Subsequently, the God of Heavenly Thunder led the Heavenly Emperor's forces to quell the rebellion. Following this victory, the God of War title was conferred upon the God of Heavenly Thunder.

At the ceremony, High Immortal Peng expressed surprise at the sudden change. Immortal Lord of Universal Turn explained the official story: ever since Yunfeng's "death," Jiuchen had been so devastated that he went into seclusion, neglecting his duties. Fairy Yuli, unable to see Jiuchen, cornered Siming, accusing Jiuchen of having gone to the Shanling Tribe to be with Lingxi. Just then, Lingxi arrived, seeking the truth about the Western Sea battle amid rumors that Jiuchen's inaction had caused a crisis.

Siming clarified that Jiuchen had already dispatched troops before the main army arrived, ensuring the situation was under control. He speculated that Jiuchen had orchestrated events for the God of Heavenly Thunder to receive the war merits, as he no longer wanted the position of God of War. At Self-Realization Cliff, Qingyao painstakingly reassembled the shattered pieces of Yunfeng's statue. She tearfully asked Lingxi if Yunfeng had used his own death to punish her for her past indifference.

Yunfeng, watching from afar, fought the urge to reveal himself. He later followed a heavily intoxicated Qingyao to the Peach Forest and stood over her as she slept, using his sleeve to shield her from the sun. When she awoke, she saw him and believed it was a hallucination born of her longing. He gazed at her intently before vanishing, leaving her to desperately call his name.

Hearing Qingyao insist she truly saw Yunfeng, Lingxi was struck by a sudden, chilling realization. She recalled Jiuchen's ominous words about her finding someone else if he were to die and his strange request to have the Immortal Knot back. The memories connected, and she was overcome with a terrible premonition.
