Jiuchen carried Lin Mo home after a walk by the sea. Sensing something amiss, Lin Mo repeatedly sought reassurance from Jiuchen, asking if he would stay by her side forever and if he was not lying. After he confirmed this, she felt relieved. As Lin Mo slept, Jiuchen softly whispered, "Ling Xi, I will wait for you," before gently kissing her forehead and departing.

Meanwhile, Jing Xiu administered a life-extending pill to Princess Baoqing and then expended his own energy to stabilize her condition. After ensuring she was stable, he instructed Heichi to take good care of her. Despite Heichi's concern about Jing Xiu's depleted energy, Jing Xiu insisted he could not delay any longer and departed to find Ling Xi. The next morning, Lin Mo awoke to find Jiuchen gone. She was visibly sad and distraught.

Upon returning home from work, Jiuchen still hadn't appeared, leaving only Xiao Bai for company. Lin Mo had grown accustomed to Jiuchen's presence, habitually setting a place for him at the dinner table and even calling out to him as if he were there. As days passed, her condition worsened, and Doctor Sun advised her to take a few days off to rest.

Meanwhile, Jiuchen, watching her from the Siming Hall through a mystical artifact, was assured by Siming that Ling Xi's return would resolve everything. Despite Siming's advice to rest, Jiuchen remained fixated on Lin Mo. Sensing her growing despair, Lin Mo eventually decided to seek Jiuchen in Taiping Prefecture. She prepared food for Xiao Bai, instructing it to stay home, then left with a small bag.

However, her inquiries along the way yielded no results, as no one seemed to know of a place called Taiping Prefecture, only Taiping Town or Village. Caught in heavy rain, Lin Mo sought refuge at an official guesthouse, which typically did not accommodate commoners. After much pleading, the uncle who managed the guesthouse reluctantly allowed her to temporarily shelter in a storage cabin. Exhausted, Lin Mo soon drifted off to sleep in a corner.

Suddenly, the room lit up with candlelight, and Jiuchen materialized. Startled, Lin Mo awoke and discovered him. Seeing him turn as if to leave again, she confronted him, asking why he had left without a word and why he had returned only to depart again. As she spoke, her initial joy turned into tears.

Jiuchen remained silent, and Lin Mo, tearfully concluding that he loved Ling Xi, who looked just like her, and that his presence by her side had always been for Ling Xi's sake. She questioned whether his time with her had held any sincerity and if his vows were mere lies. Unable to answer, Jiuchen could only pull her into a tight embrace and repeatedly apologize.

Jiuchen then arranged for Lin Mo to stay in a guest room at the guesthouse, promising to return shortly after getting her something to eat. However, as he descended, Siming materialized. Jiuchen reiterated his intention not to interfere with Lin Mo's mortal trial, but Siming expressed doubt, urging Jiuchen to be ruthless, lest his years of suffering be wasted. Jiuchen then pressed Siming for information on how many days Lin Mo had left.

Siming revealed that Lin Mo's birthday was fast approaching, coinciding with the Shanling Tribe's Blood Moon Festival. He explained that the Shanling Tribe were fierce warriors who revered the moon and loved conflict, with the Blood Moon serving as their totem. Given that Ling Xi was a descendant of the Phoenix Tribe, successfully passing her trial on that significant day would greatly aid her cultivation. Siming also mentioned that Lin Mo would fall ill and die on that day.

Jiuchen inquired if Lin Mo would endure severe pain, confirming this was indeed a death trial. Siming elaborated, stating that the life trial involved severing ties with one's biological parents, while the death trial meant cutting off the chance of survival. He explained that a lifetime's worth of illness and pain would strike Lin Mo simultaneously, leading to the loss of her five senses and accelerated aging.

When Jiuchen pressed about a potential final trial, Siming became evasive, simply reiterating that Ling Xi must face all trials alone and that Jiuchen must not interfere for everything to proceed as planned. Suddenly, Lin Mo cried out in pain from her room. Jiuchen rushed in to find her on the floor, groaning. He instinctively reached out to use his powers to alleviate her suffering but stopped himself, remembering Siming's warning.

He instead comforted Lin Mo, telling her she was merely sick from her travels. Though Lin Mo suspected there was more to it, she requested Jiuchen take her back to the Peach Blossom Abode instead of returning to her parents' Lin Family Manor, as she didn't want them to worry while she was unwell. Jiuchen agreed, and they departed for the Peach Blossom Abode.

Back at the Peach Blossom Abode, Lin Mo's volatile emotions and qi fluctuations made her heart's demon difficult to suppress. This instability allowed the Demon Lord to pinpoint her location. Meanwhile, Yuan Tong, who was stationed at Dark Capital Mountain Pass and had been taking Awakening Pills to ward off demonic aura, suddenly vomited blood. She observed that despite her precautions, she was still consistently afflicted by demonic energy, leading her to suspect the very pills she was consuming.

At the Peach Blossom Abode, Jiuchen meticulously cared for Lin Mo, preparing meals and congee, but she had no appetite. He offered to go to town to buy her favorite foods and suggested he also fetch Doctor Sun to examine her. Lin Mo agreed, urging him to return quickly. After Jiuchen left, Lin Mo rose from her bed and was horrified to discover that her appearance had aged significantly.

She rushed to the kitchen and desperately put salt, sugar, and other seasonings into her mouth, only to realize she could no longer taste anything. Overcome with despair, she broke down in tears. When Jiuchen returned, he was heartbroken to witness her distress. Doctor Sun, summoned to examine her, could not determine the cause of her rapid deterioration, promising only to consult his medical texts. Jiuchen could only try to comfort Lin Mo, assuring her she would recover.

Lin Mo, restless from the demonic aura's influence, was startled awake from a fitful sleep. Suddenly, Jing Xiu appeared, determined to take her away. When she resisted, he confronted her, asking if she intended to simply wait for death, a question that shocked her into following him downstairs. In the courtyard, Jiuchen intercepted them. Jing Xiu immediately challenged Jiuchen, questioning whether he was truly trying to save A'Mo or merely save Ling Xi.

Lin Mo listened, utterly bewildered by the exchange. Unwilling to hear Jiuchen's explanation, Jing Xiu lunged forward, initiating a fierce battle. Though both fought with full force, Jing Xiu was no match for Jiuchen and was quickly wounded and brought to the ground. Lin Mo intervened, stopping Jiuchen. She desperately demanded to know why Brother Xiu had said she was dying and what any of this had to do with Ling Xi.

Jiuchen urged her to trust him, assuring her that she just needed to endure, and everything would pass. Jing Xiu, however, interjected, bluntly stating that if A'Mo died, Ling Xi would return, implying this was Jiuchen's true objective for staying. Overwhelmed by this revelation, Lin Mo coughed up a mouthful of blood. She pleaded with Jiuchen for confirmation, and he could only reiterate that it was merely a "process" she needed to endure, after which she would understand everything.

Jing Xiu tenderly supported Lin Mo and declared to Jiuchen that he knew only A'Mo, not Ling Xi, and would take her away, warning Jiuchen not to interfere. Jiuchen, unable to offer a full explanation, firmly stated that no one would take Lin Mo from him. At that moment, Zhonghao suddenly appeared, mocking Jiuchen for defying Heavenly Laws for Ling Xi and expressing his delight at finding Jing Xiu again.

He then attempted to seize Lin Mo, initiating a confrontation with Jiuchen. As Jiuchen battled Zhonghao, Jing Xiu seized the opportunity to escape with Lin Mo. Although Zhonghao was wounded by Jiuchen, Jiuchen himself was significantly weakened from fighting both of them. Zhonghao then pursued Jing Xiu and Lin Mo. Soon after, Siming arrived to find Jiuchen on the verge of collapse.

Mustering his last ounce of strength, Jiuchen repeatedly urged Siming to find Yunfeng and locate Lin Mo, emphasizing that only four days remained. Before he could finish his desperate plea, Jiuchen collapsed to the ground. Lin Mo's physical state rapidly deteriorated. After Jing Xiu brought her to a safe location, she suddenly cried out that she had lost her sight. Desperately, she asked Jing Xiu if she was dying.

Overcome with grief and rage, Jing Xiu screamed at the heavens, accusing them of taking everything from him and now attempting to strip away his only love, vowing he would never allow them to succeed. He then extracted his life bead, transferring it into Lin Mo's body, solemnly vowing that from that moment on, they would share a single life.

He declared that across the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths, and between the dark and light realms, among all gods and demons, no one would be able to harm her as long as he did not permit it. Moments later, Lin Mo's sight was restored. Jing Xiu, tears streaming down his face, held her in a tight embrace.
