On the way home, Jing Xiu informed Lin Mo that he had spoken with Aunt Guan and asked her to stop arranging dates for her. Lin Mo expressed concern that Aunt Guan might find him too meddlesome, but Jing Xiu replied that it was his business, as she would need someone to care for her in the future. Lin Mo confessed she was deaf, to which Jing Xiu countered that he was once blind and she had not minded.
Lin Mo insisted it was different, revealing that she was already engaged. Believing Jing Xiu was merely acting out of gratitude, Lin Mo emphasized that she had only cared for him for a short time and, as he was an official in his hometown, she was not worthy of him. Meanwhile, Zhonghao informed his subordinates that the Demon Lord had sensed Ling Xi's aura about seven hundred "li" to the southeast.
Both Heichi and Jinyuan volunteered to capture her, but Zhonghao, displeased with Jinyuan's excessive care for Princess Baoqing, ordered Heichi to go alone, cautioning him that Jiuchen would likely be protecting her. Later that night, Jing Xiu, troubled by Lin Mo's words, sensed a demonic aura. After a brief fight, he discovered the intruder was Heichi, who immediately ceased his attack upon recognizing Jing Xiu.
It was revealed that Heichi was a spy Jing Xiu had planted by Zhonghao’s side; years ago, Jing Xiu had saved Heichi’s life, and Heichi had sworn his loyalty. Jing Xiu inquired about Princess Baoqing's well-being, instructing Heichi to take good care of her. He then made it clear that Ling Xi could not fall into Zhonghao's hands.
He explained that with Heichi positioned next to Zhonghao, the opening of the Spirit-Binding Abyss remained under their control, but if the Demon Lord returned, the world would be plunged into chaos. Heichi stated he would find Ling Xi first and hide her, awaiting Jing Xiu's orders. Confident he could protect Ling Xi, Jing Xiu sent Heichi back, reminding him to be extremely cautious, especially with the blood moon approaching.
In the Heavenly Palace, the Lord of Heavenly Medicine presented a Constitution-Aiding Pill to the Heavenly Emperor. After his departure, the God of Heavenly Thunder questioned the Emperor about allowing Jiuchen to take the sacred Farmer God's Cauldron. The Heavenly Emperor explained that Jiuchen had exchanged his Nuwa Stone Heart to suppress the Demon Tower, so there was no harm to the Heavenly Palace, and he would return the cauldron when his task was complete.
He warned the God of Heavenly Thunder to keep the matter confidential and pressed him to reveal his source, reminding him that both he and Jiuchen were pillars of the Heavenly Palace and he should not fall for plots designed to sow discord. Meanwhile, Yuan Tong awaited the God of Heavenly Thunder’s report.
However, upon his return, he forbade her from interfering further and, declaring her unsuitable for the Heavenly Palace, demoted her to serve as a guard at Dark Capital Mountain, leaving her resentful but helpless. A ripe peach fell from a tree, which Lin Mo picked up and began to eat while tending to the fire. After a few bites, her silent world was shattered as she suddenly heard the crackling firewood, rustling leaves, and chirping birds.
Overcome with emotion, she rushed out of the kitchen and saw Jiuchen standing outside. When he gently called out "A'Mo," tears streamed down her face. Trembling, she told him she could hear. Jiuchen stepped forward to wipe away her tears, but Lin Mo, flustered by their proximity, quickly stepped back. Just then, Jing Xiu returned. Lin Mo joyfully shared the news, and Jing Xiu, delighted for her, attributed it to her kindness moving the heavens.
Jiuchen interjected, reminding Lin Mo to introduce him. She reluctantly introduced Jiuchen as "Young Lord Song," the son of her father's friend, a skilled scholar and martial artist to whom she was once engaged. Not to be outdone, Jing Xiu introduced himself, stating that though they met later, he and Lin Mo were "fellow sufferers" who supported each other. Sensing the tension, Lin Mo fled to the kitchen.
During dinner, the two men traded veiled insults, with Jing Xiu comparing Jiuchen to a "pig butcher" and Jiuchen likening Jing Xiu to a "swindling conman," leaving Lin Mo caught awkwardly between them. Later that evening, Lin Mo brought a thick blanket to Jiuchen's room. As she arranged the bedding, Jiuchen brushed aside her hair, spotting the demonic mark behind her ear. He questioned her about Jing Xiu and reminded her of their engagement.
Lin Mo replied that since she had left home, their engagement was void. Jiuchen refused to accept this, stating he had come specifically for her. He then gently touched the area behind her ear, using his magic to conceal the demon mark. Lin Mo grew uncomfortable, and at that moment, Jing Xiu entered with a candle. He advised Lin Mo to rest, and she quickly left.
Jing Xiu then told Jiuchen that even if he was her former betrothed, no one could take Lin Mo away against her will. After they left, Jiuchen, having overexerted his power, felt a sharp pain and had to meditate. Soon, the sound of a zither drifted from outside, its music imbued with magic that caused Jiuchen's tea to spill. He immediately retaliated with his own power, terrifying Xiao Bai, who hid under the table.
The next morning, as Lin Mo prepared porridge, Jiuchen used a minor trick to make her spill water on Jing Xiu, who, understanding it was retaliation, went to change his clothes. Alone with Lin Mo, Jiuchen commented that she had become indecisive and that people, like things, should be sorted by their kind. Realizing he was referring to Jing Xiu, Lin Mo insisted he was just a friend.
She confessed her confusion as to why someone of his prominent background would travel so far for her, an adopted daughter who was once deaf. She only wished for a peaceful life. Jiuchen reiterated that he had come for her and that she would one day understand. At breakfast, Jiuchen and Jing Xiu's rivalry scared Xiao Bai away. To avoid involving Lin Mo, their spirits left their bodies to engage in a duel of words and magic.
When Lin Mo returned, they feigned innocence, but as they sat down to eat, the table, damaged by their spiritual battle, split apart, spilling all the food. Jing Xiu offered to walk Lin Mo to work. On the way, he played on her sympathy, suggesting he should move out to not displease "Young Lord Song." He lamented that if his eyesight failed again, he wouldn't want to trouble her, prompting Lin Mo to insist he stay.
Suddenly, a strange rain fell from a clear sky, drenching Jing Xiu while leaving Lin Mo untouched. Jiuchen then appeared with an umbrella, smugly telling Jing Xiu to go home and change. Jiuchen walked Lin Mo to her workplace. Aunt Guan, seeing him, grew curious. Upon learning he was Lin Mo's fiancé, she began to question his background. Doctor Sun intervened, but then realized Lin Mo could hear him.
Lin Mo eagerly shared that her hearing had returned the day before. Doctor Sun and Aunt Guan were overjoyed, attributing it to a miracle, as the doctor admitted he had never treated her for deafness. Meanwhile, Fairy Yuli went to Fuyun Hall looking for Jiuchen, but Shisan blocked her, calling her a "plague goddess" and blaming her for Ling Xi's misfortune. Yuli retorted that Yuan Tong was the one at fault.
Yunfeng emerged and Yuli latched onto him, begging him to take her to Jiuchen, claiming she had a pill for his cold disease. Yunfeng, exasperated, said Jiuchen's cold was already cured. As they argued, passing immortal maids gossiped that the proud Fairy Yuli had fallen for Yunfeng. Annoyed, Yunfeng bluntly asked Yuli if she liked him, leaving her stunned. Later, Jing Xiu confronted Jiuchen, declaring that he and Lin Mo shared mutual feelings.
Jiuchen retorted that he and Lin Mo had a marriage agreement. Jing Xiu scoffed, subtly revealing he knew Jiuchen's true identity by saying, "Doctor Song is not that fortunate to be your father." Jiuchen, in turn, acknowledged he knew Jing Xiu was a spirit who had cultivated a human form and advised him to return to the forest. With their identities exposed to each other, both men agreed to settle their rivalry based on their own capabilities.
