Old Madam Yuan, distraught and in disbelief, begged for the truth, refusing to accept the war report that revealed her son Yuanzheng's demise. Yuanzheng, having become possessed by demonic aura during the battle at Dark Capital Mountain, had lost his sanity, killing several Heavenly Soldiers and severely injuring Zhuxie with a Heart Assembling Nail. It was Senior Deity Jiuchen who ultimately struck Yuanzheng down.
In his final moments, Yuanzheng pleaded with Jiuchen to protect his family, especially his young sister Yuan Tong, and Jiuchen promised to keep the truth of his possession a secret to safeguard the Yuan Clan. Upon finally seeing the full report, Old Madam Yuan was devastated, realizing the catastrophic implications of Yuanzheng's demonic possession for her family.
Physician Qingyao, however, showed no sympathy, telling the Old Madam that Jiuchen had decided to bear the burden of the truth and protect the Yuan Clan from the day he returned, but the Yuan Clan had been relentless in their pursuit of the truth, ultimately forcing this dire outcome upon themselves. Jiuchen, seeking to end the contentious discussion, interrupted Qingyao and returned to Fuyun Hall with Lingxi and the others. Back at Fuyun Hall, Qingyao carefully examined Lingxi.
She informed everyone that Lingxi's numerous external injuries were not severe and merely required careful recuperation. However, her internal injuries were far more troubling; having been submerged in the Immortal Cleansing Pond for an entire night, her foundation was gravely damaged. If not properly treated, Lingxi might forever be limited to the cultivation of an earth immortal, with no possibility of further advancement. Jiuchen thanked Qingyao for her care.
Qingyao, still harboring resentment towards Jiuchen for Lingxi's suffering, replied pointedly that Lingxi was her own younger sect sister, and while others might neglect her, she certainly would not. As night deepened, everyone began to disperse. When Siming prepared to leave, Shisan rose to see him off. Siming initially tried to decline, but Shisan's firm insistence made him agree. High God Yunfeng offered to escort Qingyao, hoping for some private time.
Qingyao, wishing to stay and care for Lingxi, reluctantly agreed to leave after Yunfeng assured her that Lingxi would be well-cared for by Shisan, Huayan, and Jiuchen. Yunfeng relentlessly pursued Qingyao, believing her coldness stemmed from false rumors about him and attempting to introduce his "true self." Qingyao, however, had deeply ingrained prejudices against him and swiftly departed mid-sentence, leaving him behind.
Meanwhile, Shisan pulled Siming aside, demanding to know why he hadn't rescued her when she was bullied at Merit Hall earlier. Siming explained that he had gone to report the incident, arguing it would have been foolish to fight when outnumbered. Shisan countered that such an act wouldn't be foolish, but rather a sign of liking someone. The usually strong-willed Shisan became vulnerable, asking if Siming's rejection was due to her past as a male merman and fear of ridicule.
She lamented that merfolk often had to marry within their own tribe, and for a mermaid like her, finding a fulfilling marriage outside their clan was nearly impossible—a matter of fate. Siming quickly denied looking down on her, stating they were simply incompatible, even comically citing their height difference as a reason for his discomfort. He insisted he only felt "brotherly affection" for her. Shisan was deeply hurt, sitting on the ground and embracing herself.
Siming suggested they could still be friends as they once were, but Shisan knew that their carefree days of drinking and singing were gone forever. She expressed that it was only after meeting Siming that she wished to become a true woman, explaining her rough demeanor was a survival mechanism from growing up parentless and being bullied in the army. She concluded that she must "very, very much" like him to have changed so profoundly.
Siming felt an unusual stirring in his heart upon hearing this. Shisan then seized the opportunity, promising not to pester him further but asking to visit his Siming Hall to observe mortal women and learn how to be a "true woman." Believing Shisan had finally seen reason, Siming readily agreed.
However, as soon as Siming departed, Shisan immediately rose from the ground, revealing that her entire heartbroken display was a calculated "retreat to advance" strategy learned from "A Merfolk Treasury on Surefire Ways to Induce Sweet Feelings." After everyone had left, Jiuchen shed his usual aloofness, tenderly wiping Lingxi's hands and face. Lingxi, though awake, feigned sleep to prolong this moment of unexpected tenderness, while Jiuchen gazed at her, lost in thought over her vulnerable state.
Their moment was interrupted by Huayan's announcement that Duyu of the Eastern Seas requested an audience. Jiuchen then rose and departed to the main hall. There, Duyu knelt, pleading with Jiuchen to save Yuan Tong and the Yuan Clan, emphasizing that Yuan Tong had shouldered the entire family's burden since the men perished at Dark Capital Mountain.
He warned that if Heavenly Emperor issued a decree, the Yuan Clan would face the same ruin as the Lieyi Tribesmen, begging Jiuchen to intervene for the sake of General Yuanzheng. Jiuchen asked Duyu if he and Yuan Tong had known the truth about Yuanzheng's possession all along. Duyu confirmed it, admitting that he had stopped Yuan Tong from revealing Yuanzheng's family letter to clear Jiuchen's name when he first awoke, believing Jiuchen's status could withstand any criticism.
Now, however, Duyu insisted that only Jiuchen could save the Yuan Clan. Lingxi, sensing that Duyu's visit concerned Yuan Tong, rose from her bed to eavesdrop, only to be caught by Jiuchen as he re-entered the room. Despite her quick attempt to return to the bed and feign sleep, Jiuchen's sharp eyes saw through her act. He gently awakened her, handing her a jade bottle containing a single "Purple Aura From the East Pellet."
Lingxi playfully complained about the scarcity, but Jiuchen explained that in the past 100,000 years, he had only acquired three such pellets: one for his promotion to High God, another during the Great Battle of Demons and Gods, making this the last remaining one. Hearing its immense value, Lingxi wanted to save it, but Jiuchen insisted she consume it immediately, chiding her for her recklessness in the Immortal Cleansing Pond.
After Lingxi took the pellet and moved energy for a moment, her external injuries visibly dissipated. Seeing she was out of immediate danger, Jiuchen inquired why she had gone to and fallen into the Immortal Cleansing Pond. Lingxi recounted the struggle with Yuan Tong over the war report, explaining that while she initially intended to burn it, Yuan Tong's aggression made her stubbornly refuse.
More importantly, she felt it was unfair for Jiuchen to endure public criticism for protecting such an undeserving person. Jiuchen asked how she wished to handle Yuan Tong. Lingxi, with a mischievous glint, declared herself petty and vindictive. She demanded Yuan Tong kowtow and sincerely apologize, be forbidden from eating for a hundred years, and compensate her with all the rare treasures Yuan Tong had accumulated during her years as the Northern Seas guarding general.
Jiuchen's lips curved into a slight smile at her eccentric demands. Meanwhile, Old Madam Yuan was consumed by regret, spending her days weeping in the ancestral hall before her ancestors' tablets. Yuan Tong, unable to offer solace, quietly left her mother, only to encounter Jiuchen and Lingxi at the doorway. Jiuchen told Yuan Tong he understood her motive in hiding Yuanzheng's family letter to protect her clan's honor and the war report's truth.
He stated that he had already accepted the consequences of helping the Yuan Clan and did not care for rumors. However, he sternly rebuked her for resorting to unscrupulous means and developing murderous intentions, which ultimately sealed the Yuan Clan's perilous path. Jiuchen then compared Yuan Tong to her brother, Yuanzheng, who had painstakingly risen from a Heavenly Soldier to become the leader of the four great war generals over 80,000 years.
He pointed out that Yuan Tong, despite occupying her position for 50,000 years, had learned nothing of a Heavenly General's responsibility or bearing. As punishment, Jiuchen removed 50,000 years of her cultivation and demoted her to a Heavenly Soldier, requiring her to start anew. Yuan Tong, greatly relieved that her clan would not be expelled and she would remain in the military, profusely thanked Jiuchen.
Jiuchen then instructed her to apologize directly to Lingxi and reiterate all of Lingxi's earlier demands for compensation. Yuan Tong outwardly agreed, though her resentment towards Lingxi only deepened. One day, Chengyan went to the mountains to gather herbs and discovered a fine Hualiao plant deep in the forest. As he pulled it, the plant struggled and transformed into a naive female sprite.
Chengyan recognized Hualiao as a sacred ingredient for winemaking and found it amusing that such a large specimen grew openly without being harvested. Hualiao, completely unaware of immortal customs, even questioned what a "dwelling" was. Seeing her innocence, Chengyan invited her to join him in the Peach Forest, promising a safe place to cultivate away from wine brewers. Hualiao, easily swayed, happily hopped into his herb basket.
Back at Fuyun Hall, Qingyao presented Jiuchen with a newly refined "First Sun Incense," explaining it was made from the pure essence of the sun and would alleviate his suffering from the cold disease if continuously burned in his hall. High God Yunfeng, observing Jiuchen, questioned why the cold disease persisted despite Jiuchen taking medicine for some time.
Qingyao explained that Jiuchen's prolonged exposure to the cold in the Immortal Sea for 50,000 years was not something a few medicines could easily cure. She emphasized that he must not use his magic, as the extreme cold would then spread throughout his body with the circulating magical power, negating any medicinal effects. She suggested that sealing his magic with the "Nine Spirits Technique" and living like a mortal for thirty to fifty years might allow him to self-cure.
Yunfeng eagerly agreed that this was a good idea, but Jiuchen silenced him with a stern glance. After leaving Fuyun Hall and returning to the Peach Forest, Qingyao finally let down her guard and revealed her true emotions. In the quiet of the night, she sought solace in drink, recalling a fleeting vision of her beloved husband styling her hair. She mourned the painful reality that while the memory remained, he was gone forever.
Heavenly Emperor convened a council of immortals to discuss the fate of Yuanzheng's remaining clan. God of Heavenly Thunder was the first to speak, asserting that no discussion was needed. He advocated for the customary punishment: stripping the Yuan clansmen of their immortal bones, expelling them from the Heavenly Race, and eternally banishing them to fend for themselves.
Duyu immediately stepped forward, arguing that Yuanzheng, despite his mistake, had contributed greatly to the Heavenly Race, and General Yuan Tong had served diligently for tens of thousands of years without fault. He implored Heavenly Emperor for mercy, arguing that punishing an entire clan for one individual's error would be unjust.
