Jia Ruo tended to Ming He's injuries. As Ming He weakly regained consciousness, her first thought was to find her mother. Jia Ruo stopped her, informing her that Hua Lian was dead, and from then on, Ming He would be the new Mistress of the Moon Sect. Ming He was distraught, exclaiming, "What Mistress? I don't care. Why? Why is this happening?" She urged Jia Ruo to survive and stay by her side.
Jia Ruo sombrely explained that everything Hua Lian did was for her own benefit; everyone, including Jia Ruo himself, was merely a pawn to her. He revealed that for years, when he wasn't healing at the Holy Lake, he was a puppet, constantly fighting for Hua Lian. He concluded that only death could truly end all of it.
Ming He, leaning weakly into Jia Ruo's embrace, vowed that it would never happen again and that no one from the Moon Sect would control their freedom. She told him that from now on, he was the only one she could rely on. Jia Ruo instructed her not to reveal Hua Lian's death for now, to avoid turmoil, and that they would handle the rest later. Ming He agreed.
Hong Chen successfully rescued her mother, Bamboo Lady, from the imperial guards. As they were being pursued, Shu Jingrong arrived to assist, but she was outnumbered. Xiao Yiqing's timely arrival resolved the crisis, allowing Hong Chen and her mother to escape. Shu Jingrong noticed Xiao Yiqing was injured during the fight and thanked him, but he admonished her for acting hastily and ignoring her own safety.
Shu Jingrong stated she knew he hadn't killed Hong Chen earlier because he understood Hong Chen's value to Snow Tower, both for attack and defense, and that he had tasked her with handling Hong Chen to test her loyalty. Xiao Yiqing confirmed this, commending her. Meanwhile, Chi Xiaotai complained to Nan Chu about Gao Mengfei's two-day absence, suspecting he had gone to find Shu Jingrong.
Nan Chu tried to appease her, explaining that Lady Jing had officially joined Snow Tower and was now one of them, and that Xiao Yiqing would risk his life for Chi Xiaotai as well. Chi Xiaotai grew agitated, questioning why Xiao Yiqing went personally for Shu Jingrong and lamenting that Nan Chu couldn't understand her unique relationship with Xiao Yiqing compared to Shu Jingrong's.
Nan Chu gently advised Chi Xiaotai to keep her feelings to herself, reminding her that while the three of them grew up like siblings, Xiao Yiqing was the Tower Master, and merits, not relationships, mattered in Snow Tower. Outside, Gao Mengfei overheard Chi Xiaotai's words and mistakenly believed she harbored feelings for Nan Chu, which saddened him. Hong Chen led her mother to a dilapidated temple.
Memories flooded Hong Chen's mind: her mother once slapping her and throwing her out of their home. Tearfully, Hong Chen asked her mother if she had ever felt a shred of sadness when she cast her out. Bamboo Lady tearfully confessed it was her fault and reached out to embrace her daughter. Just as they were about to reconcile, several assassins burst through the door. Hong Chen fiercely fought them, and Shu Jingrong arrived, swiftly killing all the intruders.
Thanking Shu Jingrong for saving her twice, Hong Chen, now trusting her, revealed her plan: her mother was gravely ill and wished to return to their homeland, the Long Family of South Sea. Hong Chen explained that without the Sea Cleaver Charm, entry to South Sea might be impossible, but they had to risk it.
Shu Jingrong cautioned that it was unsafe to travel with her ailing mother, especially since their whereabouts were exposed and they were being pursued by unknown assailants. She suggested a place that could offer protection. When Hong Chen asked where, Shu Jingrong proposed she join Snow Tower. Hong Chen initially found it "no big deal" to work for Snow Tower, but Shu Jingrong clarified the commitment required, stating she wouldn't be able to do whatever she wanted.
Realizing Shu Jingrong was from Snow Tower, Hong Chen agreed. Jia Ruo trained alone, clearly in agony. Ming He found him and, recognizing his suffering, offered to heal him. She observed that the power he had absorbed from her mother, Hua Lian, had caused severe adverse effects.
Although the Xuan Yin Heart Sutra could protect him from Holy Lake's poison, his old injuries, combined with these adverse effects and the blows from Hua Lian, meant that only the Azure Azalea could fully cure him. Ming He promised to do whatever it took to obtain the flower. Jia Ruo, believing himself to be dying, told her she didn't have to.
However, Ming He reassured him that she had already made arrangements within the sect; Bing Ling was now in their control, which would prevent Gu Guang from acting rashly. She had also ordered Lingjiu Mountain to be sealed off. This time, she declared, Gu Guang would accompany them to the Long Family to retrieve the Azure Azalea.
Hao Tian, the Chief Steward of the Long Family, paid a visit to Xiao Yiqing, presenting the Sea Cleaver Charm as a rare treasure from South Sea. Hao Tian praised Xiao Yiqing and Snow Tower, saying he lived up to his reputation. Xiao Yiqing acknowledged the gift but noted that he had heard the Long Family resided on an island in South Sea, where crossing without the charm was said to provoke the Dragon King and cause tsunamis.
Hao Tian dismissed this as hearsay, explaining that the Long Family maintained their position through hundreds of ships, sea jurisdiction, and knowledge of the waters. Xiao Yiqing, while thanking him, stated that the Sea Cleaver Charm was not the treasure he had requested. Hao Tian assured him that his master was aware and reiterated that he was ordered to leave Luoyang in ten days, returning with a bride and the marriage certificate.
Only then, he confirmed, would they provide the Azure Azalea that Xiao Yiqing sought. Nan Chu urged Xiao Yiqing to let Doctor Mo examine his wound, but Xiao Yiqing waved him off. Instead, he asked Nan Chu to investigate whether the authorities were still searching for the prison intruder, fearing they might come to Snow Tower. Nan Chu assured him that proper arrangements had been made. Nan Chu then inquired if he should send men to bring Shu Jingrong back.
Xiao Yiqing refused, stating that Shu Jingrong, having lived alone for three years, needed to weather hardship and make her own decisions. Nan Chu also mentioned that Chi Xiaotai had not been her carefree self since returning from Jiangnan. Xiao Yiqing agreed to speak with her when he had time. Later, Xiao Yiqing asked Nan Chu if he believed in the Dragon God, before revealing strange news.
Fishermen from South Sea reported a sudden, massive wave that roared like a dragon's mouth, swallowing a ship before the sea instantly calmed. The passengers on that ship were from eleven martial schools that had previously formed marriage alliances with the Long Family and were now heading to seek revenge, but all died at sea before reaching the island. He further noted that the bodies of eleven brides who died on the island had never been returned home.
It was only after the death of Su Wu, whose family then rallied ten other schools, that anyone dared to seek retribution against the Long Family. Xiao Yiqing expressed his intent to use the current marriage alliance to uncover the Long Family's secrets.
He reasoned that if it was all a misunderstanding, Snow Tower could ally with them for mutual benefit, but if the Long Family was responsible for the brides' deaths, he would not stand by and would eradicate such evil. Shu Jingrong brought Hong Chen and Bamboo Lady back to Snow Tower. Xiao Yiqing ordered Nan Chu to take the guest in the carriage, Bamboo Lady, to Doctor Mo for treatment, and Hong Chen thanked the Tower Master.
After dismissing them, Xiao Yiqing called Chi Xiaotai and instructed her to ensure the servants treated their guests with great hospitality. Chi Xiaotai sullenly agreed. Xiao Yiqing then addressed Chi Xiaotai, stating that Lady Jing's return was related to the Long Family and she must focus on the big picture. However, Chi Xiaotai burst out, calling him a liar and accusing him of caring only for Shu Jingrong, not the "stupid Long Family."
Xiao Yiqing, ignoring her outburst, then took Shu Jingrong aside, inquiring about the Long Family. Shu Jingrong confirmed that Hao Tian, the Chief Steward, was there for a marriage proposal. In the gardens, Hao Tian approached Jiang Qianmei, who was painting. He commented on her inclusion of withered flowers, leaves, and willows in her beautiful artwork, questioning if they would ruin the view.
Jiang Qianmei gracefully explained that beauty and ugliness were superficial, and everything existed for a reason; withered elements could nourish new growth, making the painting more interesting. Hao Tian, impressed, admitted his ineptitude. Jiang Qianmei then excused herself, as Xiao Yiqing had asked to meet her. Hao Tian reflected aloud how hard it was to find a kindred spirit. Xiao Yiqing then met with Hao Tian, informing him that he had selected the bride.
He asked Hao Tian his opinion on Lady Qianmei, wondering if Hao Tian's young master would like her. Hao Tian, clearly smitten himself, affirmed that Jiang Qianmei was charming, smart, and skilled in arts, sharing interests with his young master, making her the ideal candidate. With the decision made, Xiao Yiqing suggested setting a departure date, which Hao Tian confirmed. Shu Jingrong returned to find Gao Mengfei drinking alone, drowning his sorrows.
Gao Mengfei confessed that to save him, a girl from Snow Tower had to marry into the Long Family in exchange for the Azure Azalea, and he felt he had put the Tower Master in a difficult position. Shu Jingrong told him that regardless of who was chosen as the bride, he should thank her personally, as Snow Tower had taken on this dangerous task specifically to acquire the Azure Azalea for him. Gao Mengfei acknowledged his debt of gratitude.
Shu Jingrong pressed him, asking if he had never considered stopping the dangerous marriage alliance. Gao Mengfei, noting that time in the pugilistic world had changed her, asked if she wouldn't want to live if she were in his shoes. Shu Jingrong firmly replied that she didn't need others to be responsible for her life. Concerned by his despair, Shu Jingrong went to Xiao Yiqing and volunteered herself as the bride for the marriage alliance, promising to return safely.
Xiao Yiqing questioned her motives, asking why she would volunteer for such a dangerous task, especially when Gao Mengfei was no longer Qing Yu. Shu Jingrong explained that even if he didn't acknowledge her as his sister, she couldn't stand by and let him die, and that she intended to go to the Long Family to retrieve the Azure Azalea and save his life.
Xiao Yiqing flatly rejected her offer, stating that she underestimated the alliance's true purpose: not just to acquire the Azure Azalea, but also to investigate the Long Family for a potential alliance or to eradicate them if they were responsible for the previous brides' deaths. He added that he didn't consider her qualified to be the bride and that he had the final say, allowing no one to interfere with his choice.
Shu Jingrong later met Jiang Qianmei, who was bidding her farewell. Jiang Qianmei revealed she had agreed to marry into the Long Family, a decision made after meeting with the Tower Master. Shu Jingrong expressed deep concern for Qianmei's safety, knowing the marriage alliance was fraught with danger. Jiang Qianmei, however, was resolute, explaining that Snow Tower had given her a new life, and she was obliged to serve it now that it needed her.
She urged Shu Jingrong not to be angry with Xiao Yiqing, adding that he treated Shu Jingrong differently from others. Hong Chen then arrived with desserts, thanking Shu Jingrong for her repeated rescues and inviting Jiang Qianmei to join them. As the day of departure arrived, Jiang Qianmei donned her red bridal gown, lost in thought, recalling ominous past events or experiencing visions of previous brides, as she murmured "My husband!"
and saw scenes of a bride being attacked and killed by assassins. Hao Tian noticed the delay and began to worry about the bride's absence, and Xiao Yiqing, also sensing something was amiss, promised to check. Just as Hao Tian declared it was time to leave, Hong Chen ambushed Jiang Qianmei, attempting to sedate her. Shu Jingrong intervened, stopping Hong Chen. Shu Jingrong questioned Hong Chen's actions, stating there was no enmity between them.
Hong Chen defiantly revealed her motive: the Long Family had been relentlessly pursuing her and her mother for years, preventing them from returning home. She declared she needed this opportunity to go to Yingge Island for revenge and to understand why the Long Family had cornered them. She vowed to make the Long Family pay for their actions.
