Xu Nuo returned home after her mother called her, only to find her grandmother there alone, unaware of her mother’s whereabouts. Her grandmother immediately expressed concern for Xu Nuo and Zhao Jin, asking if her mother's previous actions had affected their relationship. Xu Nuo reassured her, explaining that her mother’s repetitive complaints had become predictable. Later, as they walked together, her grandmother spoke critically of Xu Nuo’s father, saying she was still upset whenever she thought of him.
Xu Nuo playfully remarked on their family dynamic, noting that her mother was against her, and her grandmother was against her mother. Her grandmother then advised her to live in the moment and enjoy life, as the future is uncertain, but Xu Nuo admitted she couldn't help but worry about the future, noting that her mother always planned ahead. At the laundry shop, Xu Nuo’s mother was diligently working while her husband appeared distracted.
She suggested returning Peng Yuan’s investment, believing they shouldn't use his money now that Xu Nuo had decided to break up with him. Her husband strongly objected, insisting it was an investment they would repay only after making a fortune and that Peng Yuan was too rich to care. His reluctance made Xu Nuo's mother suspicious.
She soon discovered that he had gambled away all the money; he admitted taking it as principal for gambling, hoping to win and repay Peng Yuan without owing a favor. Enraged, she kicked him out of the shop. Later, alone and crying in the shop, Xu Nuo’s mother called someone named Xiao Li to inquire about taking a loan against her pension insurance, lamenting her past mistakes.
At the pet hospital, Sister Hong noticed Zhao Jin’s preoccupation, observing him playing a jigsaw puzzle and commenting on his troubled state, asking if he was trapped by the puzzle or by himself. Meanwhile, Xu Yang began working at the martial arts gym. Peng Yuan approached Xu Yang, inquiring about Zhao Jin, mentioning he had heard Zhao Jin wasn't doing well and suggesting Xu Yang comfort him.
Concerned, Xu Yang called Zhao Jin, asking if he and Xu Nuo had broken up. He recounted running into Peng Yuan, who seemed aware of their situation, and wondered if Peng Yuan and Xu Nuo might reconcile. Worried by this news, Zhao Jin told Sister Hong he was going out. He then went to the martial arts gym and was provoked into a sparring match by Peng Yuan, who challenged him by asking if he was afraid.
Concurrently, Xu Nuo visited Tian Muchu, Zhao Jin's ex-wife, to understand his past. Tian Muchu described how their own relationship faltered because she eventually realized he couldn't provide the life she desired. Xu Nuo mentioned Zhao Jin's drunken fear of being abandoned, which Tian Muchu explained stemmed less from their divorce and more from his mother, who left when he was young and never returned.
Tian Muchu also revealed that Peng Yuan had previously visited her for information and added that she believes Xu Nuo has been a positive influence, changing Zhao Jin for the better. Meanwhile, Peng Yuan confronted Zhao Jin at the gym, stating his goal was not to win Xu Nuo back but to challenge Zhao Jin.
He provoked him with insults, claiming his "cheap romance" wouldn't satisfy Xu Nuo and taunting that the photos of Zhao Jin and his sister had been arranged by Zhao Jin's own father. The provocations escalated their sparring match into a violent fight that their colleagues had to break up. Later, Xu Yang met Shi Ran and informed her about the fight between Zhao Jin and Peng Yuan.
Shi Ran jokingly threatened that their relationship would end if Xu Nuo and Zhao Jin’s did, before commenting that Xu Yang was jealous of her close friendship with Xu Nuo. After securing her loan, Xu Nuo’s mother arranged a meeting with Peng Yuan, where she returned his investment money. She explained that she felt too old to manage a business with such significant funds and feared losing it.
Peng Yuan, accompanied by his father, then attempted to propose marriage between Peng Yuan and Xu Nuo, presenting the money as a dowry. Xu Nuo’s mother, however, firmly refused, stating that she could not make such a decision for her daughter. Peng Yuan attempted to sway her by discrediting Zhao Jin, accusing him of having character issues and trying to blackmail him with the photos.
The situation soured when Peng Yuan’s father referred to Xu Nuo as "goods," which greatly angered Xu Nuo’s mother. She furiously defended her daughter, accusing Peng Yuan’s father of manipulating events, including a past incident with the "Cong family girl," before storming out. Sometime later, Xu Nuo’s mother encountered her husband, who claimed to have borrowed money at a low-interest rate from a poker player to expand their laundry business.
She expressed relief that she had neither remarried him nor forced Xu Nuo to marry Peng Yuan. Xu Nuo visited Zhao Jin at the pet hospital. Zhao Jin, who had a facial injury from the fight, jokingly explained it away. In his office, they reconciled and shared an intimate moment, kissing.
Afterward, they sat on a park bench, where Zhao Jin opened up about his past, including his difficult relationship with his father and his mother's abandonment, which was triggered by his attempt to call her. Xu Nuo then made him sign a written agreement promising to stop drinking, with the stipulation that any violation would mean he could not marry her. Zhao Jin initially tried to argue that his mistake should be forgivable but ultimately signed the agreement. They talked about the ongoing challenge of gaining her family's full approval, affirming their commitment to each other despite the obstacles.
