Duan Yu and Gu Qingqiao went to the yamen to investigate the dismemberment case and encountered Cheng Mufei, who had come to identify a body. The deceased was revealed to be a maid who had served Cheng Mufei's wife, Xueniang. Gu Qingqiao observed that the victim's eyes were bright red, identifying the cause of death as Bloodcraft. Cheng Mufei seemed evasive, which fueled Gu Qingqiao's suspicion that he might have become involved with the Sacred Blood Sect.
Duan Yu resolved to inform his brother, Duan Yan, about these developments. Meanwhile, Xueniang suffered another relapse of her illness. Lu Zizheng urged Cheng Mufei to quickly obtain the treasure map, reminding him that only then would he receive another Biluo pill. Duan Yu and Gu Qingqiao took advantage of Cheng Mufei's absence while he was meeting with Duan Yan to search his residence.
They found Shaoyi, who had been locked up, and Xueniang, who was gravely ill and on the verge of dying. Gu Qingqiao instructed Xing Si to take Xueniang as well. Unexpectedly, Xueniang regained consciousness and seized Xing Si, revealing herself to be a disciple of the Sacred Blood Sect. Duan Yan confronted Cheng Mufei, exposing his allegiance to the Sacred Blood Sect and accusing him of betraying the Four Noble Families.
As Duan Yan prepared to act, Xueniang intervened, taking a sword blow intended for Cheng Mufei. Cheng Mufei pleaded with them to save Xueniang's life. Gu Qingqiao examined her and determined she was beyond help. Cheng Mufei frantically declared he would take her to the Sect Lord, believing another Biluo pill could save her.
Gu Qingqiao revealed the truth: the Biluo pill was not a cure but a poison that accelerated Xueniang's decline, and Cheng Mufei had been deceived by the Sacred Blood Sect Lord. Distraught, Cheng Mufei confessed that he had found Xueniang injured fifteen years prior after the battle against the Sacred Blood Sect and had hidden her identity after she lost her memory due to the Bloodcraft.
The Sacred Blood Sect captured students from Jizhou Academy and threatened their lives, demanding the Star of Rebellion appear with the remaining two treasure maps in exchange for the students' safety. Cheng Mufei attempted to rush out to rescue the students but was stopped by Duan Yan, who argued that the Sacred Blood Sect might not honor the exchange even if they received the maps. Duan Yan entrusted the two treasure maps to Duan Yu for safekeeping.
Shaoyi, seeing his classmates in danger, attempted to join the rescue effort with his self-made weapons, but Duan Yan held him back. During the ensuing argument, Gu Qingqiao quietly took Shaoyi's sleeve arrows and left alone for the Sacred Blood Sect's location. Discovering Gu Qingqiao's absence, Duan Yu realized she had gone to rescue the students. He suggested they use the time she bought them to implement a plan to entrap and eliminate the Sacred Blood Sect.
Cheng Mufei was designated to launch a frontal assault to draw attention, Duan Yan led a force to rescue the students, Duan Yu went to find Gu Qingqiao, and Ruoyi was instructed to escort Shaoyi to safety. When Gu Qingqiao met the Sacred Blood Sect Lord, she presented herself as the Star of Rebellion and engaged him in conversation, delaying for time and attempting to ascertain his motives and power.
She hinted she had the maps and other treasures but claimed to have lost them while traveling, suggesting they return to search. The Sect Lord saw through her deception and attacked. Gu Qingqiao used her sleeve arrows, which the Sect Lord dodged. The spirit of the Black Wood Human-shaped Sword emerged to defend her but was defeated and struck down.
As the Sect Lord prepared to use Bloodcraft to control Gu Qingqiao, Duan Yu arrived and disrupted the attack with the Qilin Bow. Gu Qingqiao recognized the pendant the Sect Lord wore – bearing the symbol of the Meridian Gate – and realized he was responsible for the massacre of the Fire Crane Tribe. Shaoyi also arrived, identifying the Sect Lord as the killer of his friend Wu. Enraged, Shaoyi attacked but was quickly struck down by the Sect Lord.
The Sect Lord then turned his attention to Duan Yu, capturing him and demanding the treasure maps. Seeing Duan Yu in peril, Gu Qingqiao seized a nearby blade and stabbed the Sect Lord, forcing him to retreat. Cheng Mufei, fighting bravely against numerous Sacred Blood Sect disciples, was overwhelmed and died under their Bloodcraft. Duan Yan successfully rescued the academy students. Before he died, Cheng Mufei asked Duan Yan to arrange for him to be buried with Xueniang.
Duan Yan initially hesitated, concerned about Cheng Mufei's reputation given Xueniang's identity, but Duan Yu persuaded him, suggesting that for Cheng Mufei, being buried with his wife was likely more important than preserving his public image. Subsequently, men sent by Duan Yan to reinforce the Xiling Sect returned with grim news. They reported that by the time they arrived, the entire Xiling Sect had been annihilated and their compound burned to the ground.
The few bodies recovered from the fire were unidentifiable. Duan Yan reflected somberly that the Duan family was now the last remaining of the Four Noble Families. Believing the Sacred Blood Sect to be a grave and rapidly escalating threat, he concluded the safest course of action for the Duan family was to eliminate the Star of Rebellion. However, Duan Yu intervened, stating that if Duan Yan intended to harm Gu Qingqiao, he would have to kill him first.
Faced with Duan Yu's defiance, Duan Yan relented and agreed not to harm Gu Qingqiao. Gu Qingqiao noticed that the fifth petal on the mark on her leg had begun to darken, indicating her time was running out. She decided she wanted to return to see Gu Xingwu one last time. Duan Yu, having realized his feelings, told her he did not care about their future together, only about cherishing every day they had. He insisted on accompanying her.
Despite her father's initial apprehension towards Duan Yu, Gu Qingqiao had a heartfelt conversation with Gu Xingwu. She confessed the truth about her origin, explaining that she was not the original Gu Qingqiao but a soul from another world (named Qi Chunjiao) who had transmigrated into Gu Qingqiao's body.
She explained the mark on her leg signified her impending death if she could not return to her original world, and that she could not stay in Changqing or remain by his side forever.
