Wang Yuyang approached Ren Chu in the school cafeteria, noticing his unhappiness. Upon learning Ren Chu was troubled by a relationship issue, Wang Yuyang offered his advice on love, claiming it was "a piece of cake." He explained that the key is to find the right remedy for each person's unique temperament, contrasting his lively ex-girlfriend with his independent current one. His advice was prompted by Ren Chu asking his friends for the "operational steps" to apologize to a girl.
Later, Ren Chu brought Fan Yi to a market to pick out a special pet for Lu Wanwan, hoping it would deepen their bond. Fan Yi, annoyed that he was supposed to be buying props for the school fete, jokingly asked if Ren Chu was buying a rabbit for Lu Wanwan to dissect.
Meanwhile, Qiao begged Lu Wanwan to let her borrow the beloved skeleton model, "Skeleton," as a prop for the fete's haunted house, hoping the job would help her budding romance with Fan Yi. Lu Wanwan reluctantly agreed, on the condition that Skeleton be returned perfectly intact. Lu Wanwan also prepared sweet treats to sell, expecting double the customers due to the fete's couple-centric theme.
Elsewhere, remembering a previous apology had backfired, Ren Chu designed a child lock in the lab, planning to prevent Lu Wanwan from leaving before he could finish speaking. At the fete, Ren Chu arrived with his child lock, but before he could use it, Lu Wanwan approached him with a mango cake and apologized first. She admitted her attitude had been poor and thanked him for his academic guidance, which helped her pass her final exams.
Because of his help, she had decided not to transfer departments and asked for his continued guidance. Ren Chu, in turn, apologized for his own behavior, admitting he shouldn't have yelled at her or imposed his own desires about the clinical department on her. To strengthen their connection, he then presented her with a tortoise, explaining that its long lifespan would extend the time they could spend together as its guardians.
As they chatted, An Jiaxian arrived to pick up a cake. Ren Chu, visibly jealous, internally labeled An Jiaxian "Gamma" interfering with his and Lu Wanwan's "Alpha and Beta" dynamic, and intentionally damaged the cake with a fork. Frustrated, Lu Wanwan seized an opportunity to send him away when a junior from the swimming club approached to ask about recruitment.
Before leaving, Ren Chu reminded Lu Wanwan that as the tortoise's guardian, she was now responsible for both the pet and him. Separately, Fan Yi tried to impress Qiao at the fete's game stalls. He boasted about his strength and skill with darts and ring toss, but his attempts to show off failed clumsily, while Qiao effortlessly won prizes at every turn.
Later, seeing Lu Wanwan happily chatting with the swimming club junior, Ren Chu grew increasingly jealous and muttered that he should have used the lock on her. At that moment, Wang Yuyang appeared for a "campus exploration" mission and, seeing the lock, excitedly snapped it onto Ren Chu's wrist, binding them together. Ren Chu dragged a game-eager Wang Yuyang to Lu Wanwan's dessert stall to help.
While there, Ren Chu deliberately took the pre-ordered cake meant for An Jiaxian and cut a slice from it, declaring that a "broken heart" shouldn't exist and making Wang Yuyang promise to keep it a secret. After selling her desserts, Lu Wanwan discovered that Ren Chu and Wang Yuyang had sold An Jiaxian's cake. Ren Chu immediately offered to buy a replacement. When Lu Wanwan found him, they both apologized for their actions.
During their talk, Lu Wanwan clarified the cake was a birthday gift for Liang Xia from An Jiaxian, celebrating their first birthday as a couple. Ren Chu was immensely relieved to learn An Jiaxian was now firmly in Lu Wanwan's past. Qiao then led a terrified Fan Yi through the haunted house, where his screams echoed in the halls. Ren Chu and Lu Wanwan also entered, deciding to experience it differently by dressing up as ghosts themselves.
They soon encountered the screaming pair, who were even more terrified by their costumed friends and clung to each other in fear. Meanwhile, Wang Xinyu found Meng Xibai, hoping he wasn't still angry with her. Meng Xibai affirmed his affection but explained that he loved the version of her who had passion and a "shining light in her eyes."
He wanted her to have her own interests, but she insisted he was her only passion, which he said was the problem. Feeling he was hindering her from becoming a better version of herself, he gently but firmly suggested they break up, leaving Wang Xinyu heartbroken. As a heavy rain began to fall, Ren Chu and Lu Wanwan ran for shelter. Under an awning, Ren Chu carefully dried her hair.
Lu Wanwan teased him for being concerned after he had claimed to dislike her. He deflected by reminding her that she also initially disliked the clinical department but chose it in the end. Before they parted, they decided to name the tortoise. After Lu Wanwan's comical suggestions, Ren Chu proposed "Ren Lu," a combination of their last names, which made her smile warmly. As she left, Ren Chu mused that she just needed more time to admit her true feelings.
Shortly after, a junior student approached Ren Chu, asking for the meaning of "magnetic flux," explaining that a friend had used the term to describe him. After hearing the scientific definition, the junior realized it was likely not a compliment.
