Zhong Xueman harbored deep doubts about Qing Ying's revelations, unable to believe her father could be part of the Yesha organization. She discussed her concerns with Feng Qingzhuo, reasoning that if her father was in the Canfeng Army, he would be a target of Yesha's revenge, not a member. Feng Qingzhuo acknowledged the inconsistencies in the case, particularly the contradiction between Zhu Yitie's testimony of hearing a voice like Yesha's and Qing Ying's claim that Yesha never died.

This gave Zhong Xueman hope that her master could be cleared of suspicion. Later, Zhong Xueman informed Chief Zhuge that Qing Ying had confessed to being ordered by Yesha to poison both Huo Zongyao and Chu Guangsha. She explained she had uncovered Chu's involvement after Huo Dairong found financial discrepancies in the Huo family's ledgers linking to Guangsha Villa.

However, Feng Qingzhuo warned her not to reveal anything about the Canfeng Army or the Haiya incident to the Secret Investigation Unit. He explained that a powerful individual had erased all official records of the massacre to protect the Qi Kingdom's stability, and revealing this truth could be fatal for Chief Zhuge and his son. Without warning, Xiao Beiming collapsed, his condition beyond what Feng Qingzhuo's acupuncture could treat.

With only days, or perhaps hours, left, he urgently needed a Fire Cicada. Desperate, Zhong Xueman asked her superior, Jiang Yi, for a city-wide warrant to find Old Bug, who she believed had the antidote. Jiang Yi regretfully declined, explaining that such a warrant required official approval from the Ministry of Justice and would put the Elite Constabulary Unit at risk. Old Bug, having intentionally sold his unique medicine to a constable to lure Zhong Xueman, met with her.

He correctly identified Xiao Beiming's condition as a severe frost poison and confirmed they needed his Fire Cicada. He then proposed a trade: the antidote in exchange for the "Little White Dragon." That evening, a suspicious Zhong Xueman questioned Feng Qingzhuo about his past, but he remained evasive. She had already learned from Old Bug that Feng Qingzhuo was the "Little White Dragon" from the infamous Poison Valley, accused of murdering his master and stealing the sacred Yin-Yang Book.

Meanwhile, Huo Dairong found a troubled Feng Qingzhuo and gently encouraged him to unburden himself. She comforted him by saying that good intentions can justify white lies and that true friends judge people by their actions, not their past. Her words seemed to resolve his inner conflict. Later, Feng Qingzhuo confessed his identity to Zhong Xueman. Unfazed, she reaffirmed her trust in him, and together they devised a plan.

Zhong Xueman pretended to agree to Old Bug's deal and led him to a secluded spot, offering the "Little White Dragon" in exchange for the Fire Cicada. As Old Bug approached the seemingly unconscious Feng Qingzhuo, the trap was sprung. Feng revealed he was awake, and with the timely help of a hidden Huo Dairong, who knocked Old Bug unconscious, they captured him. When Old Bug awoke, tied up, he cursed their deception.

Feng Qingzhuo declared that he was no longer the Little White Dragon but a member of the Elite Constabulary Unit, vowing to bring him to justice. Old Bug scoffed at their plan to use the Fire Cicada, warning that its raw power would clash with the frost poison and kill Xiao Beiming instantly. He claimed to be the only one who could process it correctly but demanded the Yin-Yang Book as his price.

While Zhong Xueman was reluctant to part with his master's memento, Feng Qingzhuo prioritized Xiao Beiming’s life. He tore the book in half, giving one part to Old Bug and promising the rest after Xiao Beiming's recovery. Under Feng Qingzhuo's close supervision, Old Bug prepared the antidote. The next day, after taking the medicine, Xiao Beiming awakened, his condition stabilized. He immediately questioned Old Bug about Yesha.

When Old Bug mocked him, Feng Qingzhuo threatened to expose Old Bug's location to his many enemies. He then offered a deal: temporary safety and the other half of the Yin-Yang Book for information. Old Bug reluctantly agreed, but only to speak with Feng Qingzhuo alone. In private, Old Bug revealed that Feng Qingzhuo's master had died not from murder, but from a poison called ice-heart grass during a traditional Poison Valley sparring match.

He argued that it was an accident, pointing out that if he truly possessed a poison capable of killing his formidable master, he wouldn't have lost the duel for the Valley Chief position in the first place. He also criticized Feng Qingzhuo for never performing an autopsy on his master's body.
