Because of Love Episode 6 Recap
> Because of Love Recap
A flashback shows Nie Yusheng buying a brooch, then asking the shopkeeper to hold another unique one for him for two years. He eventually buys it but never gets the chance to give it to Tan Jing. At her new job in the head office, Tan Jing works late, carefully reviewing emails. Sheng Fangting offers to help, explaining which emails require replies and instructing her to draft a tactful English response for one from Charles.
He then invites her to dinner, but Tan Jing declines, choosing to stay and continue her work. Later, during a management meeting, Tan Jing mistakenly enters. Jessica, a colleague, informs her that assistants are not required to attend these internal meetings, and the email she received was only for scheduling purposes. Another colleague, Lily, questions why Tan Jing didn't attend and clarifies that only assistants taking minutes are usually present.
Lily then asks Tan Jing to prepare various drinks for the attendees: black coffee for Sheng Fangting, black tea for two directors and Mr. Wang, water for Mr. Zhang and Mr. Zheng, and lattes for herself and Jessica. When Tan Jing brings the drinks, Sheng Fangting asks her to stay and take minutes. While Tan Jing is busy preparing the drinks, Shu Qin checks in, asking how she's adapting.
Shu Qin asks to be called Vicky, and Tan Jing, in turn, asks to be called Daisy. Tan Jing expresses her admiration for Shu Qin, likening her to "Driving Miss Daisy." She mentions her past experience as a cashier, where she had to remember dozens of items, implying she is capable of handling the current tasks. Shu Qin reminds Tan Jing that as Sheng Fangting's personal assistant, she shouldn't have to perform general office duties typically handled by secretaries.
However, Tan Jing insists that as a new employee, it's appropriate for her to do more. After work, Sheng Fangting offers Tan Jing a ride home while she waits for the bus. As they are about to leave, Shu Qin drives past in her red sports car and greets them.
In the car, Tan Jing shares her admiration for Shu Qin, describing her as a competent, beautiful, confident, and sincere woman whom she always aspired to be, failing to notice the meaningful look Sheng Fangting gives Shu Qin as she drives away. Tan Jing then asks Sheng Fangting to stop giving her special treatment at work. She expresses her deep satisfaction and gratitude for simply having a job at such a large company, something she had only dreamed of.
She promises to work diligently and independently, without needing special care. Sheng Fangting acknowledges her request, noting that rumors about them are already circulating in the office, but advises her to ignore them. Meanwhile, Nie Dongyuan and Nie Yusheng share a quiet dinner, with Nie Dongyuan praising the food cooked by their new cook, Ms. Qin. Nie Dongyuan asks Nie Yusheng to change his work shift so they can visit a cemetery in the suburbs the next day.
He explains that the cemetery informed him about new double-plot grave sites available, and he wishes to move his late wife's grave to one so they can be buried together in the future. He recounts a poignant memory from the first Chinese New Year after Nie Yusheng’s mother passed away, when he clumsily tried to make dumplings for a young Nie Yusheng, resulting in flour soup that made his son cry for his mother’s dumplings.
Nie Yusheng is touched by the memory and takes a prawn dumpling. Separately, Wang Yuling expresses her frustration to Tan Jing about an argument with her boyfriend, Liang Yuanan, regarding their search for a cake shop location. She felt he was reluctant to borrow money for a prime spot. Liang Yuanan then arrives, excitedly announcing he's found and signed a contract for a new shop on Shanxi Road.
He explains that although the location is somewhat remote, it’s strategically placed next to a primary school and a kindergarten, ensuring consistent foot traffic. He also highlights that the previous tenant was a milk tea shop, minimizing renovation costs. Wang Yuling’s anger dissipates, and they reconcile, happy with the new development. Back home, after Sun Ping falls asleep, Tan Jing prepares some snacks for Sun Zhijun.
She wants to discuss Sun Ping’s upcoming surgery and informs him that the attending physician wishes to meet with both parents. Tan Jing admits her reluctance to face Nie Yusheng alone. Sun Zhijun agrees to attend, especially after learning that a new program with a medical company subsidy will cover the cost of the heart valve, significantly reducing their expenses.
His mood darkens briefly upon hearing Nie Yusheng’s name, but he then pours a drink and offers a silent prayer to Tan Jing’s deceased parents, thanking them for their grandson’s improved prospects and the financial relief. Elsewhere, Shu Qin is at home when Nie Yusheng returns. She has prepared soup for him, noting that she opted against steak knowing his aversion to grilled meat smells after long hours of surgery using an electric scalpel.
She then confides in Nie Yusheng that she has decided to finally give up on her ex-boyfriend. She explains that she now understands that while she once believed they were deeply connected, they are fundamentally different individuals, and continuing to hold on would only prolong her suffering. The next morning, Nie Dongyuan and Nie Yusheng visit the old cemetery where Nie Yusheng's mother is buried.
Nie Dongyuan observes how crowded the area has become since her burial, prompting his decision to move her to a new, more serene location. After paying their respects, they proceed to view the new double-plot graves higher up the mountain. During their journey, a tired Nie Dongyuan unexpectedly asks Nie Yusheng to call and check on his biopsy results, revealing that he is already aware of his illness.
He explains that he deduced the truth from the unusual location of the blood draw. Nie Dongyuan advises his son to let go of the past, particularly his lingering feelings for Tan Jing, and to seek genuine happiness in his own life, stressing the importance of entering into a meaningful marriage. Nie Yusheng, moved by his father’s words, promises to start dating.
Later that day, Tan Jing goes to the hospital to meet Nie Yusheng regarding Sun Ping’s surgery but is informed that he swapped shifts. She calls him, reminding him of their scheduled discussion, and Nie Yusheng, apologizing for his forgetfulness, suggests they meet at the medical school instead, sending her the location. At the medical school, Tan Jing asks Nie Yusheng to clarify the differences and safety aspects of CM’s biological valve compared to a mechanical valve.
Nie Yusheng explains that both types have advantages and disadvantages. He notes that biological valves are more commonly used, with traditional ones lasting 10-15 years, while CM’s new biological valve offers a longer lifespan of over 25 years and can grow with the organ, though its limited clinical history means there are still inherent risks. Unexpectedly, Sun Zhijun arrives, making a grand entrance and deliberately acting as Tan Jing’s devoted husband and Sun Ping's father.
He places his hand on Tan Jing's shoulder, creating a facade of marital harmony. He bombards Nie Yusheng with questions about the surgery's cost and risks. Nie Yusheng, visibly annoyed by Sun Zhijun’s behavior, calmly reiterates that all surgeries carry risks and all medical consumables have pros and cons, stating he has already explained everything clearly to Tan Jing.
He advises them to discuss the options at home and to either fill out the necessary forms for the subsidy or propose an alternative plan promptly. As they leave the medical school, Tan Jing confronts Sun Zhijun, firmly stating that she will not give him any of the surgery funds, as that money is strictly for their son’s life-saving treatment.
Sun Zhijun attempts to persuade her to sell a brooch to finance a legal case against the Nie family, hoping to secure compensation for past grievances related to her deceased father. He tries to appeal to her sense of duty, invoking her father’s spirit. However, Tan Jing refuses, arguing that they lack the evidence, resources, and financial means to pursue such a fight.
