After an emotionally challenging period, Tan Jing found herself unable to reconcile her complicated feelings about Sun Zhijun’s death and the potential involvement of Dongyuan Group with her relationship with Nie Yusheng. She expressed to Nie Yusheng that while she knew he was different from his father, Nie Dongyuan, the recent events, which she suspected were connected to Nie Dongyuan’s company, were hard to forget.
Nie Yusheng assured her that his feelings for her wouldn't change, no matter what he did for his father's company. However, he acknowledged her lingering suspicions about his father. Tan Jing believed the best course of action for them at the moment was to separate and give each other space. Nie Yusheng, saddened but unable to change her mind, later visited his father in the hospital.
There, he unexpectedly found Sheng Fangting by his father's bedside, confirming Sheng Fangting was his half-brother. During a tense conversation, Sheng Fangting openly declared his intention to reclaim what he felt was rightfully his, stating that he was ambitious and would win, even if it meant sacrificing Shu Qin. The next morning, Nie Yusheng went to the police station to report his suspicion that Sun Zhijun's death was not a simple traffic accident.
He provided the police with detailed information on all employees of Dongyuan Group, hoping they would find clues related to the case. Meanwhile, Tan Jing received a call from Dongyuan Group's executive secretary, informing her that a shareholders' general meeting would be held, and she was required to attend as Sun Ping's guardian, due to the shares Nie Dongyuan had gifted Pingping.
The financial director also informed Nie Yusheng about a 300 million personal insurance fund Nie Dongyuan had set aside for Dongyuan, which could be used to buy back shares if the secondary market showed abnormalities, to protect the chairman's position. Nie Yusheng visited his still unconscious father and told him he had made a decision, implying he would yield the company.
At the shareholders' general meeting, Sheng Fangting announced himself as the proxy for Qingsheng Group, declaring them the largest shareholder and himself Dongyuan's controlling shareholder. Tan Jing challenged this, stating that Qingsheng only held eighteen percent of the shares, while Nie Yusheng held twenty-five percent. Sheng Fangting then asked Tan Jing to transfer the five percent shares Nie Dongyuan had given Pingping, offering to reinvestigate Sun Zhijun's and her father's cases in return.
Tan Jing firmly refused, asserting that she had no right to dispose of shares given to Pingping by his grandfather, and that these shares, by all rights, belonged to Dongyuan Group, which should be under Nie Yusheng’s control. Sheng Fangting countered that he had acquired additional shares from the secondary market. To everyone's shock, Mr. Quan, Nie Dongyuan’s longtime secretary, then publicly sided with Sheng Fangting, announcing the management's five percent support for Qingsheng.
He then dropped a bombshell, revealing that Sheng Fangting was also Nie Dongyuan's biological son, thus securing Sheng Fangting's position as chairman. Tan Jing realized Nie Yusheng's sincerity for her earlier in the day when the police, after Nie Yusheng had reported the incident, informed her about his initiative to investigate Sun Zhijun’s death. Shortly after the meeting, Nie Yusheng received a call that his father had woken up. He, Tan Jing, and Pingping rushed to the hospital.
Pingping happily greeted his grandfather, who was delighted to see him and thanked Tan Jing for saving his life. Overwhelmed and unable to face Nie Dongyuan directly, Tan Jing excused herself. Everyone at the hospital agreed to keep the news of Sun Zhijun’s death from Pingping, as his delicate health could not withstand another shock. Meanwhile, Mr. Quan sought out Sheng Fangting, reminding him of their arrangement.
However, Sheng Fangting ruthlessly dismissed him, claiming no such deal existed and that Mr. Quan, being more experienced in the business world’s deception, should know better. Sheng Fangting then walked into the chairman's office, now his, feeling an inexplicable sense of loneliness despite achieving his long-sought goal. Nie Yusheng continued to care for his father. Nie Dongyuan acknowledged that Nie Yusheng's decision to cede the company to Sheng Fangting demonstrated a deeper understanding of life.
He felt reassured by his son's perspective and decided it was time to go home. Before his discharge, Mr. Quan visited Nie Dongyuan, attempting to justify his actions by claiming he always acted for Dongyuan's benefit. Nie Dongyuan, however, urged him to let go, explaining that true happiness lay in simple things and that constant internal struggle was exhausting.
He reminded Mr. Quan that Sheng Fangting was also his son, not an outsider, and that his actions had caused more losses than gains. Later, Nie Dongyuan formally signed a contract, entrusting Dongyuan Group to Sheng Fangting, hoping this would serve as compensation for his past failures. Sheng Fangting accepted, declaring Dongyuan now belonged to the Sheng family. As Sheng Fangting turned to leave, Nie Dongyuan called out, pleading with him not to target Nie Yusheng, as they were brothers.
Sheng Fangting, his emotions surfacing, recounted his painful childhood, his mother's constant tears after they were abandoned, and the profound loneliness he felt after his mother's passing when he was still a child. He firmly stated he could never forgive Nie Dongyuan. Nie Dongyuan, regretting his past, expressed a wish for Sheng Fangting not to be alone in their next life. Sheng Fangting left the hospital, deeply moved by their conversation, shedding tears on his drive home.
Unaware of his adoptive father's fate, Pingping deeply missed Sun Zhijun. At Wang Yuling's bakery, he spotted a delivery man on what he recognized as his "Papa Jun's motorcycle." He ran to ask about Sun Zhijun, and the delivery man vaguely replied that his father "might not be able to come home." Upon hearing this, Pingping's heart rate accelerated, and he collapsed with shortness of breath. Wang Yuling immediately called for an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital.
Tan Jing and Nie Yusheng arrived, distraught, as Pingping was taken into emergency care. Nie Dongyuan also arrived at the hospital, concerned for his grandson. Pingping was in critical condition, and Nie Yusheng signed a notice of critical illness for him.
