Nie Yusheng takes care of Tan Jing as she soaks her feet, comforting her and reminding her that he remembers her support during difficult times. Later, Shu Qin meets Tan Jing for coffee, explaining that her wedding planners are handling most of the preparations. She asks Tan Jing for two favors: first, to have her friend Wang Yuling's bakery make the wedding cake.
Tan Jing expresses concern about the small size of Wang Yuling's shop for a grand wedding, but Shu Qin assures her that the patissier's skill and familiar taste are what matter. Second, Shu Qin formally invites Nie Yusheng to be her groomsman and Tan Jing to be her bridesmaid. Tan Jing hesitates, feeling her past marriage makes her unsuitable and worried about bringing bad memories to Shu Qin's happy day.
Shu Qin dismisses these "ridiculous customs," stating it's her wedding and her decision. She emphasizes that Nie Yusheng is her closest friend and that Tan Jing and Nie Yusheng, having overcome many hardships, represent true love. She sincerely wishes for their blessings on her most joyful day. Tan Jing agrees to try and persuade Nie Yusheng.
Tan Jing then expresses her admiration and envy for Shu Qin's courage to move forward and embrace a deep relationship without hesitation, even if it might not last forever. During a fitting for their wedding attire, Shu Qin tries on dresses, and Nie Yusheng models his suit, which Sheng Fangting teases might steal the groom's spotlight. Later, as Tan Jing tries on a bridesmaid dress, Nie Yusheng looks at her with clear admiration.
Tan Jing then speaks with Sheng Fangting, remarking on his current involvement with Dongyuan Group despite his past dislike for Nie Dongyuan. Sheng Fangting explains that Nie Dongyuan and Nie Yusheng are different, and he admires Nie Yusheng, curious to see how Dongyuan will transform under his leadership. That night, after Nie Yusheng drops Tan Jing home, she urges him to be cautious of Sheng Fangting.
She reveals that Sheng Fangting provided significant help and advice during her child custody battle, suggesting his understanding of Dongyuan and Nie Dongyuan is far more extensive than they realize. Nie Yusheng acknowledges her concerns, stating they will discuss it. Nie Yusheng and Sheng Fangting successfully finalize a contract with a client for Dongyuan's real estate sector.
Sheng Fangting had previously advised Nie Yusheng that selling off 5% of their equity was a necessary, albeit costly, step to save the struggling real estate division, reassuring him that his majority control would remain intact. After the deal is closed, while Sheng Fangting steps out for a breather, Nie Yusheng discovers an email on Sheng Fangting's phone that reveals his entry into Dongyuan was premeditated.
When Sheng Fangting returns, he calmly admits his long-standing plot, which began when Nie Dongyuan "left our company." Nie Yusheng questions if Sheng Fangting only approached Shu Qin to gain his trust and infiltrate Dongyuan. Sheng Fangting denies it but wonders if Nie Yusheng would believe him. On the wedding day, Shu Qin, radiant in her gown, walks down the aisle to Sheng Fangting.
It is later revealed that Shu Qin had overheard a conversation between Nie Yusheng and Sheng Fangting, learning about Sheng Fangting's ulterior motives regarding Dongyuan Group. However, remembering Sheng Fangting's past care and her earlier pledge to never leave him, she proceeds with the wedding, both expressing their "I will" vows amidst the guests' blessings. Meanwhile, Sun Zhijun visits Tan Jing's home to see Pingping, but they are at the wedding.
He leaves a toy dog with Ms. Wang, promising to return later. As he departs, Ms. Wang advises him to stop causing trouble for Tan Jing and to cherish the good times, adding cryptically, "God sees everything. Karma does exist." Shortly after, while on his motorcycle and distracted by his phone, Sun Zhijun is struck by a speeding car. Tan Jing receives news of Sun Zhijun's accident after the wedding.
A flashback shows Sun Zhijun's first encounter with Tan Jing at his Master's house, where he was immediately captivated by her. At the hospital, accompanied by Nie Yusheng, Tan Jing is devastated as she signs Sun Zhijun's death certificate, a moment that painfully reminds her of her father's passing. The police inform them that the drunk driver mistook the accelerator for the brake, but they will continue their investigation.
Back home, after Tan Jing puts Pingping to sleep, Wang Yuling and Ms. Wang arrive. Wang Yuling, still shaken, expresses her belief that Sun Zhijun's death was not a simple accident, citing his strange remarks earlier that day. Although Sun Zhijun's known enemy is Nie Dongyuan, Tan Jing dismisses the idea of his involvement, given his comatose state and the lack of evidence. Nie Yusheng, however, harbors suspicions.
He calls Chubster to discuss the case, concerned that Tan Jing might blame his father. He later attempts to visit his father but finds Mr. Quan guarding the room, preventing his entry. The next morning, Tan Jing, Wang Yuling, and Nie Yusheng attend Sun Zhijun's funeral. Tan Jing is overcome with grief and guilt, reflecting on how Sun Zhijun had supported her for years. She then goes to Sun Zhijun's staff dormitory to clear his belongings.
There, she discovers a collection of news reports about Dongyuan Group and a photo of a family of three affixed to the ceiling above his bed, leading her to break down in tears. Among Sun Zhijun's possessions, Tan Jing finds Sheng Fangting's contact information, revealing their secret communication. Sheng Fangting meets Tan Jing and admits that Nie Dongyuan is his sworn enemy, and he had sought to collaborate with Sun Zhijun for revenge.
He shows Tan Jing photos of the accident scene, asserting it was not a mere traffic accident but murder. Sheng Fangting suggests that Nie Dongyuan's loyal aides, bound by shared interests, would have covered up any evidence on his behalf, even while he was in a coma.
Sheng Fangting further explains that he withheld this information earlier due to Tan Jing's strong feelings for Nie Yusheng, but he believes Sun Zhijun's death has now opened her eyes to the true nature of some people. Later, Pingping expresses how much he misses "Papa Jun," asking Tan Jing to tell him to wait for him after school next time.
Tan Jing gently tells Pingping that "Papa Jun" is very busy and won't be able to visit as often, but that he loves him very much. Pingping recalls his dad telling him he was the person he loved the most. When Nie Yusheng arrives to pick him up, Pingping, holding the toy dog from Sun Zhijun, innocently wishes that both his fathers could pick him up from school, unaware of the tragic reality.
