He mentioned his desire to find her earlier but was restricted from leaving the hospital. The local doctor then explained to Nie Dongyuan that Nie Yusheng was "living in the past," a psychological regression to a period he perceived as safe and happy, triggered by severe shock and head trauma to escape current conflicts.
Recovery would require time, acceptance of his state, and understanding the root cause of his regression. Nie Dongyuan confirmed his son's past diagnosis and three years of counseling in Belgium, promptly agreeing to the joint consultation.
