Cheng Yaya approached the police, explaining her distress over the widespread belief that Yuan Shanqing was involved with her father, Yuan Yong, in his fraudulent activities. She conveyed that people at the factory were spreading rumors that Yuan Yong had hidden the swindled money with Yuan Shanqing, and that the previous police visit to the school had only exacerbated the misunderstanding, making it harder for Yuan Shanqing to clarify the situation.

Cheng Yaya emphasized that Yuan Shanqing was struggling, studying and caring for her younger sister, Zi, alone, and that her grades were declining. She hoped the police could intervene to clear Yuan Shanqing’s name. The next day, a police officer named Jiang Feng from the Wancheng Road Police Station arrived at Yuan Shanqing’s class. He made an official statement, clarifying that Yuan Yong was a fugitive and a primary suspect.

He explained that their previous visit to the school was merely a routine inquiry based on public tips to gather information from Yuan Shanqing, who had cooperated fully. Officer Jiang apologized for any misunderstandings or negative impacts this had caused, and firmly stated that Yuan Shanqing was not directly involved in her father’s case. He urged everyone to be supportive and friendly towards each other. Meanwhile, friends discussed their future aspirations.

Li Si excitedly told Cheng Miaomiao that if they didn't get into college, they could stay in the oil field, with him becoming a director and her working in publicity, then marry young and get a big house from his father before he retired. Cheng Miaomiao rolled her eyes at his grand plans. Hu Qiumin, however, yearned to go to Shenzhen with her brother to start a new life. Later, Qiang Xiaowa accidentally stepped on Cheng Miaomiao's medicinal plaster.

Li Si was annoyed when Qiang Xiaowa seemed oblivious, but then Qiang Xiaowa approached Cheng Miaomiao to apologize, not just for stepping on her plaster but also for his harsh words during their last encounter. This left Li Si feeling upset that Cheng Miaomiao had kept this incident from him. Cheng Miaomiao decided to talk to Qiang Xiaowa.

Li Si described Qiang Xiaowa as having a "fragile heart," which made Cheng Miaomiao realize that her well-intended help in the past might have been perceived as an insult. During their conversation, Qiang Xiaowa admitted that he felt Cheng Miaomiao had treated him like a beggar, although Cheng Miaomiao insisted she was only trying to be kind and helpful, just as she and Li Si would share things.

They clarified their mutual appreciation for small gestures like school supplies and seafood, eventually reconciling their friendship. Yuan Shanqing later expressed her gratitude to Cheng Yaya, acknowledging that she had asked the police for help. Cheng Yaya, however, dismissed it as unimportant, stating that her real motivation was to prove her ability to help. Their lighthearted conversation was observed by Jia Daiyu, who immediately worried about Cheng Yaya getting involved in "puppy love."

Cheng Pengfei disagreed, believing it was simply his son's kindness being reciprocated. He advised Jia Daiyu to take a relaxed approach, reminding her of her own dramatic elopement at seventeen, which was far more serious than any possible early romance. Jia Daiyu remained unconvinced and called a family meeting before dinner to address the issue. However, Cheng Pengfei, Cheng Miaomiao, and Cheng Yaya united, skillfully deflecting her concerns and making it impossible for her to press the matter further.

Separately, Niu Lingling went to Hu Yue's home and then informed Yang Songbai that Hu Yue was in the hospital awaiting surgery. Yang Songbai rushed to the hospital, initially scolding Hu Yue for not informing him, but then inquired about her condition with the doctor. Hu Yue was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and needed full anesthesia for surgery. Yang Songbai and Hu Qiumin waited outside the operating room, while Jia Daiyu and Niu Lingling left after ensuring everything was handled.

The next morning, Cheng Yaya took all the egg pancakes Cheng Pengfei made and brought them to school for Yuan Shanqing and Zi. Jia Daiyu complained about Cheng Yaya taking the food, while Cheng Pengfei offered to make more. Li Si was still bothered by Cheng Miaomiao's closeness with Qiang Xiaowa, but Cheng Miaomiao seemed unaware of his feelings. The school announced a singing contest. The class monitor initially disallowed Qiang Xiaowa from participating because he couldn't speak standard Mandarin.

Cheng Miaomiao protested, and Li Si also spoke up in Qiang Xiaowa's defense, arguing that the competition was about class honor and fun, not just perfect pronunciation. Li Si was left to look after Zi on the basketball court. Unsure how to handle her, he asked Qiang Xiaowa to take over so he could play. Zi remained unresponsive. Later, Cheng Miaomiao returned and was annoyed to see Li Si playing basketball instead of watching Zi.

She easily engaged Zi in fun activities. During the game, Li Si accidentally twisted his ankle, and Qiang Xiaowa promptly carried him to the hospital. Hu Qiumin brought food to Hu Yue and Yang Songbai at the hospital. This time, the couple, unusually, did not quarrel. Watching Yang Songbai feed Hu Yue, Hu Qiumin felt a rare sense of comfort.

Back home, Jia Daiyu continued to press Cheng Yaya about Yuan Shanqing, still suspecting puppy love despite his and Cheng Pengfei's earlier explanations. Cheng Yaya finally revealed that Yuan Shanqing had saved him from a large pit when they were children. Although Yuan Shanqing didn't remember the incident, it was a very important memory for Cheng Yaya and the reason for his loyalty and support. Cheng Pengfei affirmed the importance of repaying such a life-saving kindness.

Later, Cheng Yaya, Yuan Shanqing, and Cheng Pengfei took Zi to the hospital for a comprehensive examination. Everyone had previously assumed Zi had an intellectual disability, but the tests revealed that her problem was with her ears; she was deaf and non-verbal. Reflecting on these events, the narrator observed that many people had assumed Zi had an intellectual disability and had even accepted the idea of her being less intelligent.

Yet, no one had foreseen the true nature of her condition. The narrator also pondered why parents, like Jia Daiyu, were so apprehensive about discussing love with their children, treating it as a taboo subject. While society warned against "puppy love," it rarely explained why.

At an age where curiosity about love is natural but understanding is still naive, the narrator wished for open conversations about these feelings, recognizing that the first person one secretly likes in their mid-teens often represents love's purest form in their life.
