Where the Lost Ones Go Episode 22 Recap
> Where the Lost Ones Go Recap
Mr Gu Huai, Gu Yishan's uncle and the director of Sanzhou Press, accompanied Gu Yishan to Mr. Shao's company to discuss a collaboration. Mr. Shao stated that Gu Yishan's work made him see hope for Chinese comics and proposed adapting it into an animated feature. Gu Yishan, with an arrogant demeanor, immediately pressed to discuss profit distribution, which Mr. Shao agreed to.
However, Mr Gu Huai then questioned Mr. Shao about having hired Xiang Zeyi, whom they believed had copied Gu Yishan's work. Mr. Shao falsely claimed that Xiang Zeyi had been fired a long time ago for jeopardizing a cooperation with an overseas team. Meanwhile, Xiang Zeyi arrived at the company and, seeing Gu Yishan and others, wondered why they were there. He approached Mr. Shao's office and overheard the conversation, specifically hearing that he had been fired.
Enraged and without a second thought, Xiang Zeyi stormed into Mr. Shao's office, grabbing his collar and demanding an explanation. Mr. Shao stated he had tolerated Xiang Zeyi enough, claiming Xiang Zeyi had messed up a big project, and that he had found a "better choice." Feeling betrayed, Xiang Zeyi slammed the door and left. Back home, Ye Zi joined Xiang Zeyi after hearing the news.
Overwhelmed by anger and despair, Xiang Zeyi kicked over his easel amidst a room full of drafts. Ye Zi tried to calm him, suggesting Mr. Shao might have other reasons, but Xiang Zeyi was inconsolable. He lashed out, lamenting that he had studied painting for so many years only for everything to be ruined by Gu Yishan and Mr. Shao's betrayal. He felt like a loser, unable to escape his "nightmare."
Ye Zi reassured him that he was not a loser and that she believed in him, but Xiang Zeyi only wanted to be left alone, repeatedly shouting that Gu Yishan had ruined him. Later, Editor Yu, after a long search, found Xiang Zeyi's original submission drafts. At the contract signing ceremony between Mr. Shao and Gu Yishan, Mr Jinshang was also present.
Mr Gu Huai was eager to begin, but Mr. Shao announced a slight change, insisting they wait for a guest he had invited. Mr Gu Huai protested, calling it rude, but Mr. Shao assured him the guest would be helpful. Soon, Ye Zi, Xiang Zeyi, Xu Wenjie, and Editor Yu arrived. Gu Yishan immediately confronted Xiang Zeyi, but Ye Zi kept Xiang Zeyi calm as the group prepared to expose Gu Yishan's plagiarism.
Editor Yu presented Xiang Zeyi's drafts alongside Gu Yishan's upcoming comics for comparison. Gu Yishan, still unyielding, accused Xiang Zeyi of imitating his style and being a thief. Xu Wenjie, infuriated, shamed Gu Yishan for his refusal to admit his wrongdoing and challenged him to draw something on the spot if he was truly the original artist. Gu Yishan made excuses, claiming his hands were ruined by Xiang Zeyi and he could no longer draw.
Editor Yu then revealed they had another witness: Mr. Shao. Mr. Shao stepped forward, explaining that while drawing styles can be imitated, each person's perception of color is unique. He challenged Gu Yishan to articulate the prominent features of his comic series, but Gu Yishan could only vaguely state that his work was "very nice." Realizing he had been deceived for years, Mr Gu Huai angrily confronted Gu Yishan before leaving the meeting, followed closely by Gu Yishan.
After the revelation, Xiang Zeyi asked Ye Zi and Xu Wenjie to leave first, as he had matters to attend to. Mr Jinshang approached Xiang Zeyi and apologized for his previous actions, expressing his belief that they could continue their cooperation. Xiang Zeyi, having reflected on his journey and the hardships, accepted the apology.
He spoke passionately about his love for painting and how the recent experiences, though painful, had made him more resilient and persistent, helping him find what he truly wanted. He confronted Mr Jinshang for having dismissed his team due to his personal mistake, emphasizing that everyone who takes life and work seriously deserves respect, and requested mutual respect in their future collaborations.
Mr Jinshang, impressed by Xiang Zeyi's courage and talent, readily agreed to continue their partnership based on mutual understanding and respect. Xiang Zeyi then thanked Mr. Shao for helping to clear his name. Walking by the river, Ye Zi and Xu Wenjie finally reconciled. Xu Wenjie admitted that she had figured out that she owed both Ye Zi and Xiang Zeyi too much and would no longer bother them, hoping to marry, have children, and start a new life.
She then urged Ye Zi to make a decision about her relationship with Xiang Zeyi, adding, with a sense of closure, that she no longer liked Xiang Zeyi, effectively moving on. Ye Zi reflected on their shared experience of loving the same man for so many years. Meanwhile, Lin Sen arranged for Ye Zi's mother to undergo medical examinations after noticing her memory lapses.
He then informed Ye Zi's father that her mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, or dementia. Ye Zi's father was deeply worried, fearing his wife would eventually forget them, but vowed to take good care of her. Lin Sen also broke the news to Ye Zi, who became distraught.
She rushed home with Lin Sen, where her mother, unaware of her diagnosis, chatted aimlessly, reiterating her desire for Ye Zi to find a reliable husband like Lin Sen for happiness, and expressing worries about Ye Zi being alone when her parents eventually leave her. Overcome with emotion and sorrow, Ye Zi embraced her mother tightly. In a lighter moment, Zhu Xuan and Yuan Lang were relaxing at home.
Zhu Xuan subtly probed Yuan Lang about his feelings on having children, asking if he would be bothered if their child was demanding. Yuan Lang surprised her by enthusiastically stating his love for kids. Zhu Xuan then admitted she had been mistaken, thinking he didn't want children due to her own career development, and confessed that she was pregnant. Yuan Lang was overjoyed and touched Zhu Xuan's belly in disbelief.
Later, Ye Zi asked Xiang Zeyi to meet her for a walk. She confessed that she had been thinking a lot, especially after her mother's illness, and felt they were no longer young and couldn't continue their relationship as they did in college. She admitted feeling confused and pressured, and struggled to imagine their future. Xiang Zeyi tried to reassure her, telling her not to overthink things and that everything would be alright.
Ye Zi then revealed her deep worry that her mother was already starting to forget who she was, which left her feeling even more upset. Xiang Zeyi understood that Ye Zi needed time to sort through her emotions and did not press her further.
