Ye Zi and Xiang Zeyi unexpectedly encountered each other at the bar. They sat together at the counter for a long time without exchanging a word. As Xiang Zeyi walked Ye Zi home, her shoelace came undone. Just as Ye Zi prepared to bend down, Xiang Zeyi, as always, knelt to tie it for her. After tying her shoelace, he embraced her and softly said, "I'm sorry."
Ye Zi then told him, "I gotta go," and walked away, with Xiang Zeyi watching her until she was out of sight. A few days later, Ye Zi and Zhu Xuan discussed how they hadn't heard from Liu Xinran. Zhu Xuan mentioned Liu Xinran hadn't even updated her WeChat Moments. Ye Zi tried calling her, but there was no answer. Zhu Xuan worried, "Anything happened to her?" She tried calling too, speculating, "Maybe she doesn't want to answer your call."
Ye Zi noted that Zhu Xuan also couldn't get through to her. Just then, Cheng Xi called Ye Zi, equally concerned. Cheng Xi revealed that Liu Xinran hadn't answered her calls for days and that she felt worried because Liu Xinran had never been like this before. Ye Zi and Zhu Xuan agreed that it was unusual.
Ye Zi suggested that Cheng Xi go to Liu Xinran's workplace to check on her, while she and Zhu Xuan would try to find Zhang Daniao first. Ye Zi called Zhang Daniao, but an internet cafe staff member answered, identifying it as Zhang Daniao's phone and explaining that he was asleep, having played games for three days and nights. The staff member asked them to pick him up.
Ye Zi and Zhu Xuan went to the internet cafe and found Zhang Daniao. Zhu Xuan woke him up and demanded to know where Liu Xinran was, but Zhang Daniao only said he had called her that morning and didn't know anything amiss. Ye Zi sternly told him, "You should have cared about her earlier." They then left to meet Cheng Xi at Liu Xinran's workplace. When they arrived at Liu Xinran's workplace, Cheng Xi was already there.
She confirmed Liu Xinran was inside but admitted she didn't dare to approach her alone. Undeterred, Zhu Xuan pulled Ye Zi and Cheng Xi inside. To their surprise, they saw Liu Xinran getting into a sports car with Mr. Jiang and driving away. Convinced something was amiss, Zhu Xuan quickly hailed a taxi, instructing the driver to follow the car.
She urged him to drive faster as they were losing sight of the car, but the taxi driver explained his car couldn't match the speed of a luxury vehicle. Ye Zi cautioned Zhu Xuan to prioritize safety. Cheng Xi wondered aloud who the man was and if Liu Xinran had broken up with Zhang Daniao because of him. Zhu Xuan vehemently denied it, asserting that Liu Xinran was not that kind of person.
Ye Zi suggested they continue following to see what was happening. They eventually trailed Liu Xinran and Mr. Jiang to a restaurant. Inside the restaurant, Ye Zi, Zhu Xuan, and Cheng Xi covertly watched Liu Xinran and Mr. Jiang from behind the bar. Mr. Jiang praised Liu Xinran's project and patted her shoulder. Zhu Xuan was about to intervene but Ye Zi stopped her. Suddenly, Ye Zi received a call from Lin Sen.
He sounded urgent, asking if Ye Zi was with Liu Xinran as he had tried calling Liu Xinran many times without success. He informed Ye Zi that Liu Xinran's sister, Liu Xinyu, was critically ill and in Lin Sen's hospital, urging Liu Xinran to come immediately. Ye Zi quickly told Liu Xinran that something had happened to Xinyu and she needed to go. Liu Xinran apologized to Mr. Jiang, saying she'd explain later, as Ye Zi pulled her away.
As they left, Zhu Xuan confronted Mr. Jiang, warning him that Liu Xinran had a boyfriend and telling him not to disturb her life. At the hospital, Liu Xinran, looking distressed, asked Lin Sen about her sister. Lin Sen reassured her that Xinyu was out of danger thanks to prompt rescue. Ye Zi helped Liu Xinran sit down, trying to calm her. Later, Zhu Xuan asked Lin Sen what exactly happened to Liu Xinran's sister.
Lin Sen explained that Xinyu suffered from congenital heart disease and had undergone several operations, but they hadn't been very effective, and the medical fees were very expensive. Cheng Xi added that she only knew Liu Xinyu was always weak and never expected it to be such a severe illness, realizing Liu Xinran must have had a very hard time over the years to cure her sister.
Ye Zi remarked that Liu Xinran always bore everything by herself because she didn't want to worry them. Ye Zi then suggested to Zhu Xuan and Cheng Xi that they should gather money for the operation, to which both readily agreed, with Cheng Xi promising to take care of Liu Xinran.
Zhu Xuan then expressed her worry to Ye Zi, wondering if Liu Xinran had broken up with Zhang Daniao and was now with Mr. Jiang because of money, given her sister's illness. Early the next morning, Zhang Daniao arrived at Xiang Zeyi's place carrying several bottles of wine, clearly upset. He urged Xiang Zeyi to drink with him, but Xiang Zeyi tried to dissuade him from drinking and offered coffee instead.
Zhang Daniao insisted on drinking, stating, "I'm here to drink wines with you," and, "you are the only guy that will drink with me." Xiang Zeyi pressed him to reveal what happened, and Zhang Daniao finally confessed, "I have broken up with Xinrang." Xiang Zeyi commented that arguments were normal, but Zhang Daniao insisted, "But it's different this time." He lamented, "I'm really losing her." Xiang Zeyi asked what he had done to annoy her.
Zhang Daniao claimed he had done nothing wrong and felt he shouldn't concede this time, despite always making concessions in their past quarrels and dedicating all his time to her outside of training. He wondered if that wasn't enough. Xiang Zeyi advised him to step back and think for Liu Xinran's sake. Zhang Daniao questioned this, frustrated that Liu Xinran couldn't tell him her difficulties so they could face them together.
He felt she had given up too easily and bitterly concluded, "She has never trusted me. Never." He wondered, "What's the meaning for me to be her boyfriend then?" At that moment, Zhang Daniao accidentally knocked over a bottle, which brought back a memory from their university days. In the flashback, Zhang Daniao had accidentally broken a ceramic piece Liu Xinran had painstakingly created.
Liu Xinran was angry, but Zhang Daniao desperately apologized, promising to stick it back together and never be careless again. Liu Xinran said she would make a new one, but warned him never to do it again, calling him careless, "just like a little kid." Zhang Daniao then promised to carry her works safely.
Despite forgiving him, Liu Xinran then told Zhang Daniao she couldn't date him until the holiday, refusing to explain why, only saying "It's nothing" and "Stop asking." During their college days, Ye Zi and Xiang Zeyi were inseparable. One time, Ye Zi mentioned that she would have a part-time job teaching children to paint at her relative's class during the summer holiday, which meant fewer chances for them to meet.
Xiang Zeyi jokingly asked why she would cry about it, then teased her by saying, "I will abduct you," to which Ye Zi retorted that he was "too old to sell" and "valueless." Later, Xiang Zeyi, looking intently at Ye Zi, proposed, "Let's meet our parents after graduation." Ye Zi, laughing, immediately responded, "Why? I'm not going to marry you! You got no face!"
Xiang Zeyi complained it was the second time she had abandoned his "handsome face," but Ye Zi declared it the third, insisting he had "no face." Xiang Zeyi then amusingly stated, "So what? I got no face. This is how I got no face today," and tried to kiss her, asking, "Why not dodge me?" Later, Xiang Zeyi also visited Ye Zi at her part-time painting class, playfully hitting a child's head with a snowball.
He questioned the child if he was Ye Zi's boyfriend, claiming to be her real boyfriend. The child, wanting to draw with Ye Zi, declared, "No, you aren't. I'm her boyfriend." Xiang Zeyi teasingly asked if the child wanted to compete with him for his girlfriend, then "finished" the child's drawing, calling it untalented. Ye Zi intervened, praising the child's work. Xiang Zeyi then offered to praise the child's painting only if he admitted Ye Zi was his girlfriend.
The child eventually asked Ye Zi if she was his girlfriend, and Xiang Zeyi proudly declared him a "good boy" when the child agreed. Meanwhile, Liu Xinran went to the school gate to pick up her younger sister, Liu Xinyu. Zhu Xuan was with her and, upon meeting Xinyu, decided to bring her back to their dorm, despite Liu Xinran's concerns about inconvenience and Mrs. Lee's inspections.
Later that night, while Liu Xinran was drawing for Xinyu, Zhu Xuan playfully painted Xinyu's nails. Zhu Xuan also observed the stark differences in personality between Liu Xinran and Xinyu, joking if they were truly sisters. The girls were suddenly alerted by Mrs. Lee knocking on their door for a room check. Liu Xinran instructed Zhu Xuan to distract Mrs. Lee while Cheng Xi helped hide Xinyu in the closet.
Zhu Xuan engaged Mrs. Lee in conversation, complimenting her new glasses and fabricating a story about a theft involving lovers climbing through balconies to get her to leave. After Mrs. Lee departed, Liu Xinran frantically searched for Xinyu, then sternly scolded Zhu Xuan for hiding her sister in the closet, accusing her of lacking common sense. Zhu Xuan, unaware of Xinyu's delicate health, felt wronged, claiming "Nothing happened, ok?" and retorted, "What's the big deal?"
She angrily questioned if having a sister made Liu Xinran special. Later, a conversation between the two sisters revealed Xinyu's fragile state, as she asked Liu Xinran, "What will happen after people die?" and spoke of her grandmother's belief that people go to a "sea of bitterness" to see those they miss. Liu Xinran comforted her, telling her to stop thinking about it and get some sleep.
Zhu Xuan, witnessing the tender yet troubling exchange, picked up her phone to call Zhang Daniao. At the hospital, Zhang Daniao quickly asked about Liu Xinran, and Lin Sen informed him that she was accompanying her sister. Lin Sen then told Ye Zi he was getting off work and offered to drive her home. As they prepared to leave, Xiang Zeyi, who had just arrived with Zhang Daniao, witnessed Lin Sen's offer to Ye Zi.
He looked at Ye Zi for a moment, then turned and walked away. Zhang Daniao confronted Liu Xinran, angrily asking, "Why don't you tell me? Have you ever regarded me as your boyfriend?" Liu Xinran coldly responded, "Would it be any help if I told you?"
Zhang Daniao insisted they could find solutions together, but Liu Xinran dismissed him, telling him to "Just talk with your team about how to get the battlefield," and to "get out immediately" without bothering her sister. Zhang Daniao, hurt by her words and feeling like she saw him as useless, replied sarcastically, "Right. I'm such a useless man in your mind, right?"
Liu Xinran reiterated her desire for him to leave, telling him, "You are such a man in my eyes. Useless. I beg you to get out. I don't want to see you anymore in my life." Facing her firm resolve, Zhang Daniao finally agreed, "Ok, Liu Xinrang, I agree to break up with you. We will never meet again from now on," before storming out.
