Following their arrival at the business event, Zhao Yuanfang spots Zhen Nian and strikes up a conversation. Zhen Nian is surprised to learn that the elegant dress she is wearing was a gift from him, declaring she would never have worn it had she known. Unbothered, Zhao Yuanfang deliberately steps on her dress, causing her to call him crazy and warn him to watch his back.
Meanwhile, Nie Xingchen approaches Yan Jingzhi, claiming she is simply idle and worried that her former boss might not be able to handle Mr. Liao of Hengji Real Estate. Yan Jingzhi dismisses her help, so she retreats to a corner to wait for another opportunity. During the event, Yan Jingzhi’s secretary, Jin Beina, discusses Mr. Liao with him, noting his proficiency in Tango.
To create an opportunity for Yan Jingzhi, Jin Beina then deliberately falls in front of Nie Xingchen, twisting her ankle. Though Nie Xingchen apologizes, Jin Beina insists it was her own fault. Yan Jingzhi dismisses the injured Jin Beina and tells Nie Xingchen that as compensation, she must dance the Tango with him. Nie Xingchen initially refuses but agrees in exchange for being reinstated to the President's Office.
Their synchronized dance successfully captures the attention of Liao Zhigao, who is deeply impressed and recalls meeting his own wife, who also wore a red dress, through Tango. Seizing the moment, Yan Jingzhi introduces Nie Xingchen as his girlfriend. In response, Nie Xingchen adds a new condition, demanding to be his Chief Secretary. To maintain appearances before Mr. Liao, Yan Jingzhi plays along.
After Liao Zhigao leaves, Yan Jingzhi agrees to her return to the President's Office on the condition that he drives her home for her safety. Nie Xingchen reluctantly provides her old address, Zancheng Nanyuan, and later takes a taxi to her new apartment. In the car, Yan Jingzhi cryptically remarks that he knows her dancing habits because they were "in love until the moment you forgot me." The next morning, Nie Xingchen finds Yan Jingzhi waiting at her door.
Realizing she cannot avoid him, she quickly hands him breakfast and rushes into the elevator, dropping a shoe in her haste. Back at the company, Yan Jingzhi reflects on his recent encounters with Nie Xingchen and goes to the President's Office. Recalling she had once claimed rosemary was her 'boyfriend's favorite scent,' he asks a colleague about rosemary-scented shampoos.
Nie Xingchen arrives twenty minutes late on her first day back, earning a stern warning from Yan Jingzhi that he can revoke her position at any time. Meanwhile, at Zhen Nian's photoshoot, Zhao Yuanfang insists on multiple retakes, claiming that while her performance is good, it could be better. While inspecting the recently acquired Guomao mall, Yan Jingzhi passes a photo booth and experiences a flash of memory involving himself and Nie Xingchen.
An employee mentions that Zhao Yuanfang had relayed Yan Jingzhi's own instruction to keep it, prompting him to decide to leave it there. At the photoshoot, Zhao Yuanfang continues to be meticulously critical of Zhen Nian's poses. She accuses him of taking personal revenge, but he claims his strictness is for her own good. He then offers her a towel, which is secretly soiled with cake.
Annoyed, Zhen Nian retaliates by feigning an apology while smearing cream cake on his face. To avoid Yan Jingzhi, Nie Xingchen devises a plan to get home. She first has a newspaper delivered to her apartment to confirm he isn't waiting, then orders takeout under his name to lure him downstairs, allowing her to sneak back into her own apartment. After collecting the food, Yan Jingzhi invites the masked Nie Xingchen to eat with him.
She reluctantly agrees, lying that she works for Yatai Technology. As they eat, Yan Jingzhi notes that she seems to know his food preferences as well as his secretary does. Nie Xingchen deflects by talking about Halley's Comet as a metaphor for not misjudging people. She later falls asleep on his shoulder, and just as he reaches for her mask, she wakes up and quickly leaves.
Before she goes, he tells her he sees her as a "neighbor" and "someone familiar." The next morning, Yan Jingzhi again offers Nie Xingchen a ride. She lies about her destination, getting dropped off halfway before taking a taxi to Bojue Group. In a meeting, department managers unanimously recommend Nie Xingchen to lead the critical Heshan land project.
Yan Jingzhi entrusts her with the task, stressing that the company's entire liquidity is tied to the "3-in-1 project," and failure would be catastrophic. He then secretly visits Yatai Technology to ask about an employee matching his neighbor's description, only to be told no such person works there. At the bidding event for the Heshan land, Mr. Liu from Xuhui Real Estate approaches Nie Xingchen, attempts to poach her, and hints at a surprise.
During the presentation, Xuhui reveals their proposal, using the exact same core slogan as Bojue Group: "Original Ecosystem, Most Free." Realizing their plan was leaked, Yan Jingzhi withdraws from the bidding, cryptically citing issues with the competitor's "quality." Liao Zhigao accepts, inviting Xuhui to sign a contract in five days. Back at Bojue Group, the mood is grim. Yan Jingzhi calls an urgent meeting, learning of the massive financial penalties they now face.
He orders a five-day work suspension and an internal investigation into the leak. As Nie Xingchen returns to a worried office, Jin Beina arrives with investigators. Announcing she is leading the search for a "business spy," she asks Nie Xingchen to cooperate with the investigation, leaving everyone stunned.
