Mu Ruhanjiang, confined within a city wall cage, tearfully witnessed the profound suffering inflicted upon the Mu Ru clan. He desperately pleaded with Muyun Sheng to save his people, but Muyun Sheng remained indifferent and silent. As the Mu Ru women and children were sent to the execution block, Murun Hanshan, shouting "The Mu Ru have no retreat" to affirm their unwavering loyalty, rushed to the city gate, only to witness this devastating scene.
Murun Suo silently wept upon seeing Murun Hanshan return alive. Filled with sorrow and hatred, Mu Ruhanjiang vowed to avenge his clan's blood feud. Muyun Hege and the Empress coldly observed the Mu Ru family's downfall. Elder Xue inquired about Mu Ruhanjiang's fate, and Muyun Hege decreed that Mu Ruhanjiang be hung on the city wall for the world to forever remember the Mu Ru family's supposed crime of regicide.
Muyun Hege also decided to send Murun Hanshan and Murun Suo to Shangzhou. Elder Xue then reminded Muyun Hege of their prior agreement, prompting Muyun Hege to decide on holding his enthronement and wedding ceremonies simultaneously. In an underground chamber, Muyun Sheng repeatedly pleaded with Mo Yuchen (also referred to as Mr. Mo) to release him so he could save Mu Ruhanjiang and the Mu Ru clan.
Mo Yuchen mocked Muyun Sheng's powerlessness, asserting that without authority, one could accomplish nothing. He further stated that Muyun Sheng's only means of saving the Mu Ru was by releasing the Youyou Mei within him. Muyun Sheng refused, knowing the Youyou Mei would bring disaster to the world. To compel him, Mo Yuchen subjected Muyun Sheng to illusions, forcing him to witness the complete massacre of the Mu Ru family and the impending execution of Mu Ruhanjiang.
Muyun Sheng reiterated his plea, emphasizing Mu Ruhanjiang's need for his help. Mo Yuchen declared that only the strong deserved conditions and happiness, and that Muyun Sheng's talk of protection was empty without sufficient power. Mo Yuchen then transported Muyun Sheng into an illusion of Yongyin Palace. There, amidst flying flower petals, Muyun Sheng saw Lin Xiuman meticulously tending to an amber begonia.
Muyun Sheng disbelieved his eyes, thinking Lin Xiuman was Mo Yuchen in disguise and that the entire scene was a deceptive illusion crafted by secret arts. His disbelief grew when he saw Yin Rong, his mother, and Muyun Qin, his father, enter the palace, embracing affectionately, which brought Muyun Sheng a sense of peace. Concurrently, Yu Xinji discovered remaining Ningxin Pills in Wei Ping Zhai, inferring that Muyun Sheng had consumed them to utilize secret arts.
Elsewhere, Muyun De walked onto the great hall alone, smiling contentedly at the throne, which he anticipated would soon be his. Mo Yuchen abruptly pulled Muyun Sheng out of the illusion, reminding him that Yin Rong and Muyun Qin's encounter was destined, as Muyun Sheng was born with a god-like mission. Mo Yuchen recapitulated past events, arguing that Muyun Qin's weakness had led to the loss of his beloved Yin Rong.
Muyun Sheng tried to explain that his father sacrificed his mother to protect the world, but Mo Yuchen grabbed him, challenging him to define "the world." Mo Yuchen believed that "goodness" only led to suffering, citing Lin Xiuman's life of pure intentions, unwilling to contend, which ultimately resulted in her serving and dying for others. He also pointed to Muyun Qin's weakness and choice to be "good," which led to the loss of Yin Rong and oppression by Muyun Luan.
Mo Yuchen further asserted that Yin Rong, as a Meizu, could have manipulated hearts but chose not to, burying herself in the deep palace and passing her weakness to Muyun Sheng, thereby making her fate self-inflicted. Mo Yuchen then stabbed Muyun Sheng with a dagger, discovering a corpse-deer needle deeply embedded in his bones, which he believed, if removed, would free the Youyou Mei. Muyun Sheng still refused to release the Youyou Mei, unwilling to let it harm humanity.
In his mind, an image of Yin Rong appeared, warning him not to be enchanted by the world's most beautiful things. Muyun Sheng questioned whether her choice not to contend was an act of love or incompetence. Yin Rong affirmed it was love, but Muyun Sheng tearfully lamented that her refusal to fight had caused him to suffer cold indifference in the deep palace, feeling abandoned by her sacrifice for love.
Not listening to Yin Rong's words, Muyun Sheng then recalled Pan Xi, who, he remembered, had been killed by Ling Heqing due to his own weakness. Then, a figure resembling Pan Xi appeared before Muyun Sheng. She reminded him that weakness only led to greater loss, and only by becoming strong could he protect those he wished to protect.
She warned that without sufficient power, his talk of protection was merely words, and that the last person who cared for him awaited his rescue, referring to Mu Ruhanjiang. She utilized a secret art to show him Mu Ruhanjiang's execution, spurring him on, and advised him that to become strong, he must be willing to use any means necessary to achieve his goals.
Muyun Sheng found this Pan Xi unsettlingly unfamiliar, believing she was merely his own illusion, or not the true Pan Xi. Mo Yuchen then pulled Muyun Sheng back into the chained illusion. Muyun Sheng saw Pan Xi again, deeply surprised, and questioned if she was real. Mo Yuchen declared that he had obtained the Book of Meiling and mastered all of Pan Xi's secret arts, rendering this Pan Xi useless to him.
Mo Yuchen deliberately tortured this Pan Xi in front of Muyun Sheng to force out the Youyou Mei. Muyun Sheng pleaded with Mo Yuchen to spare Pan Xi. Mo Yuchen removed his weapon from Pan Xi, and she, with tears in her eyes, looked at Muyun Sheng before entering her own illusion with him, or he entered an illusion in a magic bead where Pan Xi appeared.
In Pan Xi's illusion, she told Muyun Sheng that life was long and victory was not instantaneous; he needed to understand human hearts, as only those who maintained a true smile through vast stretches of time truly comprehended the world's secrets. She expressed her hope that Muyun Sheng would always maintain his kindness amidst difficult choices, for kindness was the only power to eliminate suffering and unrest. Muyun Sheng felt comforted, recognizing this Pan Xi as the true Pan Xi he knew, believing she had finally returned.
