Faced with the condemnation of his court, Emperor Muyun Qin raised his sword to Muyun Sheng's neck, but ultimately couldn't bring himself to strike. He knew he had made a mistake when he killed his beloved. For the sake of the Duan Dynasty, its people, and the world, he had already taken a life; he begged to be allowed a moment of selfishness to spare Muyun Sheng.

Since their fates were intertwined by birth, Muyun Qin promised to bear the responsibility for every action Muyun Sheng would take in the future. He then decreed that Muyun Sheng was permitted to attend court and participate in governance. Muyun Sheng was surprised by this turn of events and left in dismay. Muyun Qin, looking at the throne, suddenly wanted to know the future of the Duan Dynasty.

He had always been cautious and circumspect, and he wondered what would happen if the Duan Dynasty were to have an emperor who refused to listen to his ministers. In the Kyushu Inn, Minister Xue planned to return the mansion gifted to him by Muyun Luan, stating that he was unable to help him any further. Muyun Luan instead stabbed Xue's hand with the sharp edge of an antique, asking if Muyun Sheng was more terrifying than him.

Helpless, Xue swallowed his anger, removed the blade, and reaffirmed his loyalty to Muyun Luan, making sure to include the antique. That night, Muyun De sought a reward from Muyun Luan for his contract with Minister Suodameng, but received a slap in the face instead. Muyun Luan questioned Muyun De about his visit to Muyun Sheng at the Weiping Studio and warned him not to interfere with his plans.

Overhearing Muyun Luan order him to kill Muyun Sheng, Muyun De expressed his disapproval, especially regarding Muyun Luan's efforts to save Muyun HegGe. Muyun Luan used the promise of recalling Muyun De's eldest son as leverage, forcing him to obey. Lan Yu'er overheard their conversation as she passed by. Muyun Luan noticed someone outside and Lan Yu'er immediately fled. Muyun De chased after her with his sword. Just as Lan Yu'er was cornered, Nanku Yueli appeared and rescued her.

Muyun De, thinking that Nanku Yueli was eavesdropping, said she shouldn't have acted so rashly. Nanku Yueli approached Muyun De, asking why he was trying to get in her good graces. She then closed the door, removed her clothes, and stood before him. Muyun De refused to touch her, saying he wouldn't touch someone who didn't like him. After Muyun De left, Lan Yu'er emerged and thanked Nanku Yueli for saving her.

Nanku Yueli dismissed the thanks, saying that she simply wanted Lan Yu'er to remember to help her when she needed saving. Nanku Yueli reminded Lan Yu'er that if Muyun De sought her out that night, it would only prove that he didn't care about her feelings. As predicted, Muyun De visited Lan Yu'er's room that night, and she reluctantly gave herself to him.

Lan Yu'er pleaded with Muyun De not to harm Muyun Sheng, prompting Muyun De to realize that she was the eavesdropper and that she was using her body as a bargaining chip. Meanwhile, Nanku Yueli, thinking of Muyun HegGe's imprisonment, sought wine from the innkeeper, Qin Yufeng. Qin Yufeng reminded her not to forget her former status as a courtesan, and Nanku Yueli angrily slapped him, saying that she was destined to be empress.

As Nanku Yueli was speaking with Qin Yufeng, Muyun De entered, causing her to slap Qin Yufeng again, pretending that he was making unwanted advances. Muyun De coldly said that Nanku Yueli was a good actress and sent her away. Muyun De ordered Qin Yufeng to prepare a corpse outside Muyun Luan's room in the morning, creating the illusion of an assassin breaking into the inn.

The next day, Muyun Qin announced his decision to allow Muyun Sheng to attend court and participate in governance as Crown Prince, surprising everyone. Minister Xue immediately tried to return the bribe to Muyun Luan, but Muyun Luan stabbed Xue's hand with an antique blade, telling him to understand the situation. Muyun Luan then ordered Muyun De to kill Muyun Sheng, believing Muyun Sheng was of no use.

He hoped Muyun Sheng would be dead by the time the guards outside the Hege mansion were removed. Muyun De questioned why Muyun Luan was constantly trying to save Muyun HegGe and suspected he had an improper relationship with the Nanku Empress. Muyun Luan threatened to transfer Muyun De's eldest son to keep him in line. Muyun De visited Muyun Sheng in the Weiping Studio, and drew his sword, claiming he was under orders from Muyun Luan to kill him.

Muyun Sheng asked what Muyun De wanted, offering to help him realize his ambitions. Muyun De stated that the Duan Dynasty should fall and that the world needed to be reshaped. Muyun Sheng revealed that he intended to uncover everyone's deepest secrets and then take them away. Seeing this ambition in Muyun Sheng, Muyun De also revealed his own ambition: he believed the Duan Dynasty should perish and the world be cleansed.

Muyun Sheng knew that Muyun De was merely trying to manipulate him and insisted that he wanted to find a way to defy fate. He believed that people should be judged by their actions, and that good and evil should be distinguished, rather than harming everyone indiscriminately. Muyun Sheng also expressed his disdain for the struggle for power, as every person seeking power does so under the guise of benefiting the people and the world.

Muyun De shared that disdain for the struggle for power, but unlike Muyun Sheng, he did not want to merely compete for human power; he wanted to contend for the dominion of all of Kyushu, to be the king of all six races. Muyun Luan ordered Muyun De to personally assassinate Muyun Sheng, believing him to be useless, and hoping he would be dead before the guard outside Hege's residence was withdrawn.

He didn't understand why Muyun Luan was working to help Hege, and Muyun Luan didn't answer the question, instead giving the order. Muyun De did not want anyone else to carry out the order, hoping Muyun Luan had considered his own safety. However, Muyun Luan told him that he was a master of manipulation and had never worried about him. This conversation was overheard by Lan Yu'er.

Muyun De, upon hearing that Muyun Qin agreed to let Muyun Sheng attend court, approved of the move. Muyun Luan wanted a corpse to be set outside his room to make it seem like the assassin was after him, in order to distract from the real plan. Muyun Luan did not care that Muyun De was a part of his family. Muyun Qin stated to his court that they were selfish and that he could not murder his own son. Nanku Yueli told Lan Yu'er to remember her favor when she was in need. Qin Yufeng warned Nanku Yueli not to forget her courtesan status.
