The confinement of Muyun Sheng and Emperor Muyun Qin's declining trust in Mu Rusu leaves Muyun Luan triumphant. He engages in discussions about court affairs with his son, Muyun De, discreetly testing Muyun De's loyalty. Muyun De, cautious and shrewd, feigns obedience and expresses disinterest in the throne, claiming his sole focus is on acquiring wealth.
Muyun Luan, however, is well aware of Muyun De's alliances within Tianqi City, leading to a deepening rift and escalating mutual suspicion between father and son. During a separate encounter at the Jiuzhou Inn, Muyun Luan explicitly warns Muyun De to remain a loyal subject without ambition. Muyun De responds by emphasizing his interest in "gold pearls" over kingship, and when pressed about his spending, he presents Muyun Luan with precious purple-scented pig ham.
Muyun Luan, however, points out that Muyun De uses such extravagant means to curry favor with court officials. Muyun De defends his actions, stating they are for "Father King Muyun Luan's success" in his plans, noting that with Muyun Sheng and Muyun Lu confined, only Muyun Han qualifies as Crown Prince, thus necessitating their joint efforts against Muyun Han. Muyun Luan advises Muyun De to proceed cautiously and not "beat the bush to startle the snake."
Meanwhile, in Hanzhou, Gusong Tuo (also referred to as Gusong Zhi) dispatches a secret report about Muyun Yanshuang's unexplained disappearance, ordering his subordinate to deliver it personally to Muyun Han in Tianqi City and stressing that no other court officials should know to avoid complications. On the Hanzhou snowfields, Shuofeng Heye struggles, carrying the weakened Su He on his back. He eventually collapses from exhaustion by a river.
Muyun Yanshuang, who has been riding for five days and nights, finally locates them. Despite Shuofeng Heye's inner joy at seeing her, he acts coldly, citing their conflicting identities, and tells her to leave. However, Muyun Yanshuang is under a "True Love Forever" spell and adamantly refuses to depart, persistently following them. That night, as Shuofeng Heye lights a bonfire in the forest, Muyun Yanshuang offers him her rare Tongyun medicine pills, which can sustain life for ten days.
Shuofeng Heye, initially hesitant due to the pills' preciousness, administers one to Su He after Muyun Yanshuang reveals she possesses three. Despite accepting the medicine, Shuofeng Heye continues to urge her to leave. When Muyun Yanshuang tries to rest by the bonfire, he again drives her away, causing her to cry privately. Seeing her tears, Shuofeng Heye softens, brings her back to the bonfire, covers her with his thick cotton coat, and endures the severe cold by resting elsewhere.
The following morning, Muyun Yanshuang helps Su He onto her unique warhorse, "Zhuifeng Yueying," insisting on accompanying them to the Danyao Tribe to seek help from Danyao Granny (also referred to as Danyao Po Po). Shuofeng Heye continues to resist her presence, believing she is only following him due to the spell, not her true feelings, and fears she will regret it later. Despite his resistance, she continues to follow.
During a rest, Su He, understanding Shuofeng Heye's true affections, recounts Shuofeng Heye's tragic past to Muyun Yanshuang. This revelation fills Muyun Yanshuang with guilt over her past actions towards him. She then apologizes and confesses her love, stating that Shuofeng Heye has moved into her heart. Shuofeng Heye, conflicted by her confession, but convinced it's not her genuine will, reveals the truth about the spell to her, hoping to make her give up and again tells her to leave.
Muyun Yanshuang sadly departs, but soon returns to Su He's side when Shuofeng Heye is absent. She questions Su He about the spell and asks him to break it. Su He, believing that emotions cannot be forced, agrees and immediately performs the ritual to break the spell, declaring her free. However, Muyun Yanshuang shows no joy, stating that true freedom lies in being able to love whom one wishes wholeheartedly. She then leaves again.
Shuofeng Heye and Su He continue their journey. Su He asks Shuofeng Heye about the feeling of love, and Shuofeng Heye expresses his bitterness at having personally driven away someone he cares for. Seeing Shuofeng Heye's emotional state, Su He believes Muyun Yanshuang will not return. Just as he is about to reveal that the spell has been broken, Muyun Yanshuang reappears with a fat rabbit, cleverly pretending to still be under the spell, and continues to follow them.
Shuofeng Heye, still unaware the spell is broken, pretends he doesn't want to see her, urging Su He to break the spell again, stating that Hanzhou men do not use cunning methods to win women's hearts. He further emphasizes that the Iron King Sword has awakened, and his destiny with the Muyun clan dictates an inevitable confrontation on the battlefield, making it better to sever ties now rather than suffer later.
Su He, aware of the impending war between Hanzhou and the Muyun clan and their potentially short remaining peaceful time, conceals the fact that the spell is broken. He claims he cannot break it and suggests Muyun Yanshuang accompany them to the Danyao Tribe, implying this may be their final period of tranquility before the unavoidable conflict.
In Tianqi City, Emperor Muyun Qin publicly declares Muyun Han as the Auxiliary Prince, tasking him with assisting in governing, a decision that stirs unrest among the court officials. That night, Mr. Mo meets Muyun De, expressing his dissatisfaction with Muyun Luan and his interference, which has jeopardized their "great undertaking" to help Muyun Sheng wield the Emperor's Sword.
Muyun De, acknowledging Muyun Luan's cunning, advises Mr. Mo that they are not yet powerful enough to confront him directly and must wait for the opportune moment. Muyun De then mentions Pan Xi, feeling a unique spiritual connection with her despite their few encounters. Mr. Mo reminds Muyun De to prioritize their grand ambitions over romantic attachments.
Muyun De reveals his plan to exploit Muyun Sheng's grief and hatred over the loss of Pan Xi to ignite his ambition and propel him to the throne. Mr. Mo agrees, noting that Pan Xi's death brings them a significant step closer to their goals. Muyun De then presses Mr. Mo about Pan Xi's death, expressing disbelief that she is truly gone and revealing his knowledge that Mr. Mo has hidden a strand of Pan Xi's "spirit wisps."
Mr. Mo, unable to conceal it further, explains that ordinary Mei spirits vanish if their spiritual wisps scatter, but Pan Xi, as a servant of the Desolate God, might be different. He speculates that if Pan Xi regenerates, they can use the hidden spirit wisp to locate her. Muyun De is impressed by Mr. Mo's foresight.
Finally, Muyun De proposes that Mr. Mo enter the palace to replace Ling Heqing as the Sky-Gazing Priest, using the guise of sky-gazing to influence Emperor Muyun Qin's decisions, thereby strengthening their position to contend with Muyun Luan.
