Muyun De tasks Lan Yu'er with an important mission: to warn Muyun Sheng not to attend the palace family banquet, or if he must, to abstain from drinking the wine, as it has been poisoned with a secret art to induce madness. Lan Yu'er readily accepts, expressing gratitude on behalf of Muyun Sheng and showing no fear of potential consequences, even bowing to Muyun De.
While in his carriage, Muyun De witnesses Nanku Yueli walking out of a burning brothel, smiling and loudly proclaiming her refusal to yield to fate. Two constables attempt to apprehend her, but Muyun De intervenes, buying her freedom with silver. Intrigued by her defiant spirit and red attire, Muyun De brings Nanku Yueli into his carriage, ignoring Lan Yu'er's objections and driving her out of the carriage.
Muyun Sheng and Pan Xi are together in a forest pavilion, where Pan Xi expresses deep concern and anger over Muyun Sheng's arranged marriage, questioning his true feelings and citing the fickle nature of the human heart as taught by her teacher. Muyun Sheng, perceiving her worries as baseless suspicion, expresses frustration that his genuine affection is misinterpreted.
Softened by his words, Pan Xi returns to him, deciding to stay until his wedding day to protect him from any potential harm, especially as he might lose his secret art. Muyun Sheng solemnly declares his unwavering devotion to Pan Xi, embracing her and stating that meeting her was a long-awaited reunion.
He promises his heart will always be hers, regardless of her feelings, and vows to never let her leave, pleading for her not to disappear again and threatening to search all of Kyushu if she does. He further assures her he will ask Muyun Qin to revoke the marriage decree with Su Yuning, stating he would rather relinquish his position as Crown Prince than marry anyone but Pan Xi, as she alone constitutes his entire future and world.
At the Kyushu Inn, Muyun De delivers "The Star Canon," or "The Book of the Imperial Sutra of Heaven," a supreme secret text containing the mysteries of the Imperial Sutra of Heaven, to Muyun Luan. Muyun Luan plans to give this book to an old acquaintance who helped him reach his current position, intending for this person to help him force out the charm spirit by Muyun Sheng's side. Muyun Luan then confronts Muyun De about Nanku Yueli.
Despite Muyun De's attempt to conceal her identity, Lan Yu'er, acting on Muyun Luan's orders, enters and confirms Nanku Yueli's presence at the inn. Fearing Nanku Yueli will bring ruin and damage his reputation, Muyun Luan forcefully orders Muyun De to kill her, emphasizing that women are insignificant compared to great achievements, and demanding her death to leave no witness. Reluctantly, Muyun De takes up his sword and confronts Nanku Yueli in her room, drawing his sword against her.
The following day at the Heavenly Capital Palace, Muyun Qin walks in the rain with Empress Nanku Mingyi. Though fully aware of her true identity, he deliberately treats her as Yin Rong, using this pretense to torment her, while she longs to confess she is not Yin Rong, but is silenced by his words. Muyun Sheng arrives to seek an audience with Muyun Qin, requesting the annulment of his marriage to Su Yuning.
Muyun Qin adamantly refuses, threatening Su Yuning's life and stating that royal marriages are matters of destiny and state, not personal feelings, thus Su Yuning, destined to be Empress, must marry Muyun Sheng. Muyun Sheng offers to resign as Crown Prince in exchange for a life of freedom and joy, but Muyun Qin rejects this, noting that the entire palace is aware of the charm spirit by Muyun Sheng's side.
Muyun Qin believes that burdening Muyun Sheng with responsibility for the common people's welfare is the only way to conquer his inner demons and make them disappear forever. He further threatens that if Muyun Sheng does not comply, he will ensure the death of all those Muyun Sheng cares about, specifically naming Su Yuning and Mu Ruhanjiang, whom he regards as Muyun Sheng's fatal weakness. Muyun Sheng leaves in anger, unable to comprehend his father's relentless coercion.
Muyun Qin later confides in Yu Xinji that his harshness is a desperate measure to protect Muyun Sheng from court dangers, believing that if his son does not become Emperor, he will perish, and thus he must selfishly exchange the realm for his son's safety. Muyun Luan unlawfully enters the Star Observation Pavilion to confront Ling Heqing, bringing a wooden box containing "The Star Canon."
Muyun Luan reminds Ling Heqing that it was his pronouncement to the former emperor, stating that Muyun Luan's star destiny was unsuitable for ruling, that led to his demotion from Crown Prince. Ling Heqing defends himself, asserting his impartiality and claiming only celestial phenomena, which have now halted, can determine truth.
Muyun Luan then sarcastically suggests the Star Observation Pavilion is useless without the functioning celestial phenomena and presents "The Star Canon," a supreme secret text of the Imperial Sutra of Heaven sect, which astonishes Ling Heqing and his senior disciple. He demands Ling Heqing use the forbidden secret art passed down through his ancestors for him, offering "The Star Canon" as exchange.
Ling Heqing initially refuses, claiming ignorance of the secret art, but his expression drastically changes when Muyun Luan reveals his comprehensive knowledge of past events by mentioning the name Ling Yuifeng, implying he knows about Ling Heqing's past involvement with forbidden arts or secrets related to the Imperial Sutra of Heaven sect.
