Mu Ruhanjiang was freed from his shackles by Han Shan, who then inquired about Mu Ruhanjiang's answer to Muyun Sheng's earlier question. Mu Ruhanjiang stated he hadn't answered, didn't know the answer, and had never seriously considered it, but was certain that Muyun Sheng was the true king. Prior to his departure, Muyun Sheng had dismissed everyone to privately instruct Mu Ruhanjiang to perform a specific task at a future time.

Though Mu Ruhanjiang refused to disclose the exact details, Han Shan pressed him on whether he would genuinely comply, to which Mu Ruhanjiang shook his head, unsure. Later, Mu Ruhanjiang recalled Muyun Sheng's request: should Muyun Sheng ever fulfill his star-mandated destiny and begin to harm the world, Mu Ruhanjiang must use the Hanch Che sword to kill him, as Muyun Sheng believed his death would save him from betraying all people.

Muyun Luan, having returned to Tianqi City and orchestrated affairs within the palace, orchestrated a secret visit for the Empress, Nanku Mingyi, to her confined son, Muyun Hegao. Disguised in plain clothes, with Muyun Luan acting as her coachman, the Empress was granted only half an hour at the old Nanku manor.

Approaching Muyun Hegao, who was disheveled, sitting in a corridor with dull eyes, and mentally confused, reliving his delusion of becoming emperor, the Empress wept bitterly over his pathetic state, lamenting the Nanku family's downfall. Initially suspicious of Muyun Luan's seemingly selfless act, given his usual cunning, she questioned his motives. Muyun Luan claimed his actions were solely out of love for her, desiring only to be by her side.

Moved by his words, the Empress begged Muyun Luan to persuade Muyun Qin to release Muyun Hegao, promising to do anything in return. Muyun Luan agreed, assuring her that her wish would be granted after the upcoming family banquet. Meanwhile, Lan Yu'er delivered newly brewed "Red Sleeve Wine" to Muyun De. Learning it was destined for the palace, she expressed concern for Muyun Sheng and confessed her feelings for Muyun De, but he coldly dismissed her.

Muyun De then revealed to Mo Yuchen, whom he considered a father figure or mentor and a co-conspirator, that Muyun Luan had ordered him to infuse the wine with a secret technique or drug to make Muyun Sheng go mad publicly after drinking it. Mo Yuchen was alarmed, arguing that for their "great endeavor," Muyun Sheng must become emperor.

Caught between Muyun Luan's command and Mo Yuchen's strategic imperative, Muyun De persuaded Mo Yuchen to prepare the infusion, promising he would ensure Muyun Sheng's safety. Yu Xinji, who had pledged allegiance to Muyun Han and committed to his service, was aware of Muyun Luan's plot to tamper with the wine, with Muyun Han also involved.

While Yu Xinji was prepared to attack Muyun Sheng at the banquet, Muyun Han, recalling their fraternal bond, resolved to intervene himself to prevent others from harming Muyun Sheng. On the following day, Muyun Sheng brought Mu Ruhanjiang into the palace under his authority as Crown Prince, specifically to allow him to meet Su Yuning. In a palace chamber, Su Yuning, distressed, repeatedly refused to try on her wedding gown, lamenting its meaninglessness as her heart belonged to another.

She also learned that the Empress had become Consort Yinrong. Muyun Sheng entered, reciting a poem Su Yuning had written in her youth, praising her. Su Yuning knelt, imploring Muyun Sheng to ask Muyun Qin to withdraw the marriage decree, as her heart was already given. When Muyun Sheng pressed her to name the person, she hesitated.

Before she could speak, Mu Ruhanjiang, ignoring his prior agreement with Muyun Sheng, entered the room, much to Muyun Sheng's annoyance at his impatience. Realizing she had been the subject of a prank, Su Yuning grew angry. Muyun Sheng apologized, explaining his intent was merely to ascertain Su Yuning's true feelings for Mu Ruhanjiang. Mu Ruhanjiang then clarified that he had personally begged Muyun Sheng to bring him to see her.

Su Yuning's face brightened, and she asked his reason for coming. Despite his true feelings, Mu Ruhanjiang, feigning indifference, claimed he came only to congratulate her and Muyun Sheng on their upcoming marriage, dismissing their sacred vows made in the underground city as mere "nonsense." Muyun Sheng watched, frustrated by Mu Ruhanjiang's stubbornness, while Su Yuning appeared heartbroken. At a brothel in Tianqi City, Nanku Yueli entertained an official involved in garment manufacturing.

The official carried a precious brocade box containing a unique feather robe, which he stated was intended for the future Empress of the Duan Dynasty. Upon Nanku Yueli's inquiry, he revealed the intended Empress was Su Yuning. This news caused Nanku Yueli to tremble, recalling her past grievances with Su Yuning, and she furiously broke three strings of her pipa.

The official, revealing his family had been killed by Nanku Qi and that he sought only to witness the Nanku family's downfall, mocked Nanku Yueli's current status as a courtesan, advising her to accept her fate and abandon any aspirations for the Empress title. Though Nanku Yueli fantasized about her own resurgence upon hearing of the official's reinstatement, his continued mockery, calling her a mere prostitute, enraged her.

In a defiant act, Nanku Yueli stabbed the official multiple times with a small knife, killing him, then set fire to the brothel and the precious feather robe, proclaiming that no one but herself could dictate or was worthy of dictating her fate.
