Nanku Yueli gave He Ge a forged imperial edict, which Nanku Qi had already stamped with the national/imperial seal. He Ge, overjoyed, called Nanku Yueli his empress, expressing his belief that the empire would soon be theirs and that she was born to enjoy such good things. After they shared a kiss, Nanku Yueli urged He Ge to attend to the main affairs before preparing a ceremony to welcome her. Yu Xinji brought Muyun Sheng to Emperor Muyun Qin's bedchamber.
He found a faint breath and urged Muyun Sheng to use secret arts, but Muyun Sheng hesitated, claiming they only bring disaster and cannot save people. While Yu Xinji engaged in battle with guards outside the chamber, Mu Rushuo, also present with Muyun Sheng, similarly demanded Muyun Sheng use secret arts. When Muyun Sheng claimed he did not know them, Mu Rushuo pushed him aside before leaving to confront the attacking guards.
Upon returning, both Yu Xinji and Mu Rushuo were furious that Muyun Sheng had not acted. Yu Xinji additionally revealed his concern that with no one else suitable to be the new emperor, Muyun Qin could not die before Muyun Han returned. Muyun Sheng, heartbroken, realized both Yu Xinji and Mu Rushuo harbored ulterior motives. Yu Xinji maintained that his skills were meant for a wise lord.
Meanwhile, as Muyun Sheng touched Muyun Qin's cold body and saw dust emanating from it, Muyun Qin's phantom/soul appeared, stating he had found release and was going to search for Yin Rong, instructing Muyun Sheng to take care. Learning of the palace's upheaval, Mu Rushuo, who considered Muyun Qin his brother, prepared to enter with his Lion-Tooth guards. However, Hanshan, leading the Mu Ru iron cavalry who had already killed guards around the emperor's bedchamber, tried to stop him.
Hanshan argued that the emperor's family was ruthless, and Muyun Qin had always been wary of Mu Rushuo, emphasizing that the Mu Ru family's duty was to protect the empire, not an individual emperor, and they shouldn't risk their lives for Muyun Qin.
Enraged, Mu Rushuo chastised Hanshan for forgetting the Mu Ru family's ancestral teachings and ordered him to seize Nanku Qi's military power and ensure the empire did not fall into He Ge's hands, waiting instead for Muyun Han's return. Mu Rushuo later ordered Hanshan to recall all Lion-Tooth guards to protect the emperor. Nanku Qi, leading soldiers, confronted Muyun Sheng, Yu Xinji, and Mu Rushuo. He loudly accused them of conspiring to murder the emperor and usurp the throne.
Nanku Qi ordered their immediate execution, leading Yu Xinji to bravely fight alone against Nanku Qi's forces, while Mu Rushuo led the Mu Ru iron cavalry into battle against Nanku Qi's army. Simultaneously, Nanku Qi used his military authority to bring Gu Songzhi and Xue Huo, two supervising ministers, to the main hall. He informed them of Emperor Muyun Qin's death. As they expressed shock, He Ge arrived with the forged imperial edict, which Nanku Qi immediately signed.
When the ministers questioned Mu Rushuo's absence, Nanku Qi insisted that three signatures were sufficient for the state document to take effect. Mu Rushuo and his two sons, Hanshan and Hanchuan, were trapped at Qinfeng Hall by Mr. Mo's illusion spell, unable to find their way out despite circling many times. Mr. Mo had used his secret arts to help Nanku Qi.
Meanwhile, Muyun De, who had been asking Mr. Mo to teach him secret arts, discussed Muyun Luan's plan to seize the empire. Muyun Luan had ordered Muyun De to assist He Ge in forging the imperial jade seal, intending to publicly expose He Ge's crime after his ascension, thereby creating a legitimate path for Muyun Luan to claim the throne.
Muyun De, disagreeing with Muyun Luan's desire for both power and reputation, stated he would rather simply eliminate all his enemies. Mr. Mo, impressed by Muyun De's ambition, offered to become his father and teach him secret arts, though he usually only teaches useful people and would consider it only if Muyun De proved of great utility. Gu Songzhi refused to sign the state document, suspecting Nanku Qi and He Ge of foul play.
While he acknowledged the imperial edict didn't appear fake, he found it suspicious that Nanku Qi was fully prepared for the emperor's death, a fact unknown even to the ministers themselves, and demanded a reasonable explanation. He Ge, in response, drew his sword, intending to kill Gu Songzhi. However, Nanku Qi intervened, warning that another high-ranking death on the same day as the emperor would cause the people to lose faith and lead to questioning.
Gu Songzhi then mockingly pointed out the difficulty He Ge and Nanku Qi would face in explaining such an event to the world. At this critical moment, Empress Nanku Mingyi, dressed in black and feigning sadness, entered.
She claimed to have informed Nanku Qi of her husband's death and emotionally and logically persuaded the ministers that with other princes absent, enthroning He Ge according to Muyun Qin's "last wish" was the truest form of loyalty to both Muyun Qin and the Muyun clan's empire. As Muyun Sheng stood by Muyun Qin's body, Pan Xi appeared. Muyun Sheng questioned why she had returned, but she asserted he should save Muyun Qin.
She led him into an illusion/the emperor's dream, where they witnessed Muyun Qin repeatedly trapped in the moment he killed Yin Rong. Pan Xi explained that due to his immense regret, Muyun Qin's spirit, though not yet truly deceased, was forever confined to that painful choice, endlessly reliving the act and suffering. Unwilling to let his father endure such torment, Muyun Sheng resolved to save him.
When his body began to react strangely, with the Youyoumei attempting to emerge, Muyun Sheng managed to control it. Realizing his solo effort was insufficient, Muyun Sheng reluctantly agreed to Pan Xi's offer to help, allowing her to enter his heart to assist him in saving his father. As Pan Xi entered Muyun Sheng's heart, Mr. Mo keenly sensed Nanku Qi's imminent defeat. He immediately instructed Muyun De to quickly leave the imperial palace. Mr. Mo then proceeded to kill all those aware of their plans and prepared to return to Wanzhou with Muyun Luan to re-strategize.
