At the Kyushu Inn, Muyun Hegao and Muyun De conspire. Muyun De, a calculating merchant who also desires the supreme power of the throne, admits he is unwilling to participate in a life-risking rebellion. Muyun Hegao, whose style is to go all out, is displeased by Muyun De's remarks and at one point puts a sword to his throat.
Muyun Hegao receives a diagram of the Imperial Seal from Muyun De and intends to have Heluo forge it to seize the throne. He also asks Muyun De about Mr. Mo's whereabouts, rejecting Muyun De's suggestion to wait for Mr. Mo's return before starting the forgery, stating he cannot wait. Emperor Muyun Qin is currently speechless, making him unable to expose the fake seal even if he recognizes it.
At Qingyuling, Mr. Mo interrogates an elder (described as a blind old man in one plot) about the true entrance to Dragon Abyss Pavilion, which preserves all knowledge and time records since Kyushu's creation, aiming to inform future generations of Kyushu's history. The elder, a former head of the pavilion, staunchly refuses to reveal anything, fearing that if Chenyue (辰月) discovered the entrance, they could select and modify history, thus erasing all truth.
When Mr. Mo shifts to asking about the Charm Spirit's secret within the bead, the elder and his student Longhua (or Qihua) choose to drink poisonous tea and die on the spot to safeguard the secret. Unwilling to let the only key witness escape, Mr. Mo uses a Soul Summoning or Soul Return spell, enduring its backlash.
The elder's body is enveloped in black mist, and he is forced to reveal that the Charm Spirit holds the wrath of the Desolate God, and its release would unleash a major disaster upon Kyushu. During this process, a white aura rises from the black mist, revealing Muyun Sheng's face, and Mr. Mo faints from the backlash, unable to hear the complete information. However, despite the pain and incomplete immediate information, Mr. Mo later learns the Charm Spirit's identity.
In Unpeaceful Retreat (未平斋), Muyun Sheng is constantly fixated on the Charm Bead, speaking strange things and staring day and night at a flower. Lan Jue'er, believing the bead is harmful and that Muyun Sheng is obsessed with the woman inside, is accidentally scalded when Muyun Sheng pushes away a teacup she offered. Muyun Sheng then gets an idea from the ceramic shards of the broken teacup, becoming delighted.
While Muyun Sheng is asleep, Lan Jue'er secretly steals the Charm Bead and takes it to Muyun De at the Kyushu Inn, receiving a convincing fake in return. Muyun De attempts to seduce Lan Jue'er, making her believe he cares for her. Muyun Sheng is later awakened by a nightmare, where Pan Xi and Muyun De are together, and he is stabbed when he tries to intervene.
Upon waking, he receives the fake Charm Bead from Lan Jue'er, unable to discern its inauthenticity. Muyun De, now in possession of the real Charm Bead, sees Pan Xi emerge from it. He slanders Muyun Sheng and tries to persuade Pan Xi to stay with him. Pan Xi, disliking Muyun De, smiles and declares she never wants to see him again, then uses a secret art to disappear, making him forget their encounter.
Confused by a vague sense of oddness, Muyun De cannot see Pan Xi when he examines the bead. In a fit of rage and jealousy, he locks the Charm Bead in the Knocking Heaven's Lake Sword Box, forbidding her from seeing anyone else. That night, Muyun Sheng finally comprehends the essence of secret arts: that all things are composed of dust, and by understanding its movement, one can master these arts.
He levitates a flower, witnessing its fragmentation into tiny particles, and within these particles, he sees a man shrouded in fire, as from his dream. He holds the fake Charm Bead and calls for Pan Xi. Meanwhile, Pan Xi senses Muyun Sheng's awakening and struggles within the sword box, but she is suppressed by the sword box's power.
The flower Muyun Sheng holds flies to the sky, transforming into light that envelops Muyun Sheng, and dazzling tentacles emerge from his back, completely shrouded in light. Lan Jue'er rushes in to awaken Muyun Sheng but is blasted several miles away by his activated secret art or radiance when she tries to touch him. Muyun Sheng goes to help her, but guards rush into his bamboo house and stab him.
Lan Jue'er mistakenly believes he saved her, but as he collapses, Muyun Sheng declares he will not let anyone harm Pan Xi. Muyun Sheng's "charmification" (魅化) leads to abnormal celestial phenomena: all star trails cease, and all stars dim, with only Yufi Guansing still shining. Ling Heqing is astonished, proclaiming this unprecedented in history. Following this transformation, Muyun Sheng sees his other half, Youyou Mei, reflected in a lake.
Lan Jue'er attempts to awaken him, but when he turns, he is injured by the newly arrived Yu Xinji. Witnessing Muyun Sheng fall before her, Lan Jue'er is overwhelmed with guilt. However, Muyun Sheng mistakes her for Pan Xi, tenderly calling out Pan Xi's name, which deeply saddens Lan Jue'er.
In the Dan Yao Tribe, the old woman Dan Yao Amu (or old shamaness) informs shaman Shuofeng Suhe that the Demon King has opened his eyes, and Hanzhou will be plunged into darkness under his influence. Shuofeng Suhe, prophesied to be Hanzhou's greatest shaman, holds the lost secrets of Hanzhou's Eight Tribes, but his seal can only be broken by the Kuafu Axe (or Kuafu Talisman) held by the Tieqin (Iron沁) / Shuofeng Heye.
Following these instructions, Shuofeng Suhe leaves the Dan Yao Tribe to seek out Shuofeng Heye. In the Underground City, Ji Yuncong pays homage to the ancestors of the former dynasty and orders her subordinates to release fireworks as a signal to summon Mr. Long back, declaring that their long-awaited opportunity has finally arrived. The fireworks are seen by Mr. Long at sea and Wang Duo in Yishui Village.
Wang Duo, troubled by the sight, recognizes them as the signal of the former dynasty. He solemnly tells Su Zhen that being with her is his greatest happiness, though she, not understanding the gravity, merely teases him for speaking romantically. Back at the Kyushu Inn, the owner treats Muyun De as a VIP. Despite his disdain for Tianqi City, Muyun De is secretly studying a street-vendor's manual on secret arts.
Mr. Mo suddenly appears and stops him, stating that secret arts are far too complex for such a guide and warning him that practicing them is suicidal. Muyun De then presents Mr. Mo with the Muyun Charm Bead, which he had retrieved from the Knocking Heaven's Lake Sword Box.
Upon seeing the bead, Mr. Mo immediately demands that Muyun De return it to Muyun Sheng, cautioning that using the sword box's power to suppress the Charm Spirit will only destroy her, and Muyun De's current abilities are insufficient to control the Charm Bead. Muyun De, contemplating smashing the bead, declares that if he cannot possess it, neither will anyone else. Mr. Mo intervenes, threatening to kill Muyun De if he attempts to destroy the Charm Bead.
