By the river, Su Yuning repeatedly called out Mu Ruhanjiang's name. They sat together, and she recounted the reason for her expulsion from the palace years ago. She had been lured to a cliff under Mu Ruhanjiang's name but was then pushed off by a masked person. Although Su Yuning never saw her attacker, she never doubted Mu Ruhanjiang.
She explained that she fell into a mountain cave and was saved by a kind person, whose identity she had promised not to reveal, even to Mu Ruhanjiang. Mu Ruhanjiang was eager to know who saved her. Thinking of the area near Yuezhou, where Su Yuning had fallen and where he had previously discovered strange underground phenomena, Mu Ruhanjiang felt there was something amiss beneath the surface.
Upon returning Su Yuning, Mu Ruhanjiang avoided the main entrance, as Grandma Su had seen him before. He waited until Su Yuning went inside, then entered his room by flipping a window. Meanwhile, Muyun Lu, using the alias Lu Yun, concealed his true identity from Grandma Su, who, in turn, also kept her past hidden. Muyun Lu noticed Grandma Su pruning a bonsai in a style unique to the imperial palace, which made him deeply suspicious of her former status.
Before he could question her further, Su Yuning returned and immediately recognized Muyun Lu. Muyun Lu, instantly smitten with Su Yuning, asked her to also keep his identity a secret. That night, as Mu Ruhanjiang studied the peculiar underground occurrences, Muyun Lu questioned him about what it felt like to like someone, revealing that he had fallen for someone.
Mu Ruhanjiang, recalling the interactions he had witnessed between Muyun Lu and Su Yuning earlier that day, felt a pang of jealousy. He suggested sending Muyun Lu back to Tianqi City to recover from his injuries, but Muyun Lu insisted his wounds were too severe to travel and refused to leave, much to Mu Ruhanjiang's exasperation.
A spy for Muyun Heguo reported Muyun Lu's whereabouts, stating that Muyun Lu had found clues about the Imperial Seal and was heading to Longyuan Pavilion to search for it, or to find "secret writing techniques," but had mysteriously disappeared en route. Fearing Muyun Lu had indeed located the Imperial Seal, Muyun Heguo resolved to search for Muyun Lu himself.
He also instructed Nanku Qi to find Muyun Lu, and concurrently to stall Muyun Han, keeping him away from the imperial palace, ideally until Muyun Qin passed away. Nanku Qi agreed, noting with a sneer that he had nurtured the Helan tribe for so long, and now it was their time to repay him. In Hanzhou, the Muru Cavalry, dispatched to suppress a rebellion by the Helan tribe, suffered a crushing defeat.
News of this reached the imperial court in Tianqi City. Gu Songzhi severely reprimanded Muru Suo and Nanku Qi. Nanku Qi, however, shifted all blame to Muru Suo, stating that he merely held military authority temporarily, while the soldiers were still the Muru clan's. Muru Suo, shamed by the Muru Cavalry's defeat by the seemingly minor Helan tribe—a cavalry once feared across the Hanzhou grassland—did not refute the accusations.
Instead, consumed by remorse, he decided to transfer full responsibility for Hanzhou's defense to Muyun Han's personal army, then dejectedly left the main hall. On the Hanzhou grassland, Old Jinji, his daughter Jin Zhuhai, and their small four-person merchant caravan were caught in a fierce sandstorm. When their precious seven-color sheephead was blown away, Jin Zhuhai chased after it and nearly got crushed by a cart wheel. Fortunately, Shuofeng Heye appeared and rescued her just in time.
After the storm subsided, as the team rested, Jin Zhuhai thanked Shuofeng Heye and offered him food. As Shuofeng Heye ate, the shackles on his hands were revealed. Old Jinji recognized them as slave shackles and initially ordered his subordinate, Ku Suto, to seize Shuofeng Heye. Shuofeng Heye explained that he was not an escaped slave but merely out herding sheep. Old Jinji believed him.
Though Jin Zhuhai's brother wanted to kill Shuofeng Heye, fearing that letting him go would cause them to lose the trust of other tribes, Jin Zhuhai intervened, citing Shuofeng Heye's kindness. Old Jinji, after speaking with Shuofeng Heye, decided to provide him with some dry rations and allow him to leave. Before Shuofeng Heye departed, Jin Zhuhai learned his name.
Having fallen for him at first sight, she boldly told him that the next time they met, he would belong to her. Old Jinji, discerning his daughter's affection, advised her that helping someone in distress did not necessarily mean the other person shared her feelings. However, Jin Zhuhai was so captivated by Shuofeng Heye that she paid no heed to her father's words.
Later, at the Suoda tribe in Hanzhou, Old Jinji sold sea salt to the local merchant Suoda Meng, who openly praised Jin Zhuhai's beauty. After greeting Suoda Meng, Jin Zhuhai unexpectedly discovered Shuofeng Heye confined in a cage nearby. Old Jinji attempted to buy Shuofeng Heye from Suoda Meng, but he refused. Suoda Meng revealed that Shuofeng Heye was a harbinger of disaster for Hanzhou, destined to destroy the entire grassland.
He recounted how four years prior, he had sent Shuofeng Heye out of Hanzhou, only for him to return. Left with no choice, Suoda Meng had administered "star grass" in Shuofeng Heye's food to keep him trapped under his watchful eye. Upon hearing Suoda Meng's account, Old Jinji reluctantly abandoned the idea of buying Shuofeng Heye. But Jin Zhuhai was undeterred; she secretly approached Shuofeng Heye and tried to cut the ropes on his cage to free him.
Her attempt was discovered by Suoda Meng's subordinates, and she was brought before Suoda Meng and Old Jinji, who was furious and reminded Old Jinji of Hanzhou's strict rules. Old Jinji hastily apologized, but Jin Zhuhai adamantly insisted on saving Shuofeng Heye, even proposing marriage. When Old Jinji firmly refused, Jin Zhuhai grabbed a knife, held it to her own neck, and threatened suicide, proclaiming her genuine love for Shuofeng Heye.
Seeing her determination and witnessing her cut her own neck, Old Jinji, heartbroken, slapped her but ultimately compromised and agreed to her demand. He then leveraged his long-standing friendship with Suoda Meng to arrange their marriage. A wedding ceremony was held for them on the Hanzhou grassland. That night, as Jin Zhuhai lay naked on Shuofeng Heye, she reminded him of her earlier declaration that he would belong to her the next time they met. Shuofeng Heye gently traced the wound on her neck, then rolled her beneath him, and they consummated their marriage.
