Muyun Lu deciphered a secret sphere he had brought back from the barracks, discovering a black gem within. When illuminated by candlelight and rotated, the black gem projected a map of the Nine Provinces and its six tribes onto Xuan paper. To uncover the secrets and origins of this black gem, Muyun Lu personally led his troops from Shangyang Pass to Yuezhou, seeking answers at the Longyuan Pavilion.
Unbeknownst to him, all his actions were being monitored and reported to Han Canjun by Nanku soldiers, accomplices of Nanku Qi. Meanwhile, in an underground city, the Heluo tribe, guided by an elder, held a grand ceremony for the remains of their former leader, King Fanlake of Suomo. Everyone bowed before the skeleton, chanting "Yixin." Princess Ji Yuncong observed the proceedings, at times with a cold sneer, witnessing the customs of the Heluo people.
She then approached another set of remains, identifying them by a metal bracelet as those of a former Sheng Dynasty emperor. Trembling, she removed a sacred silver bracelet from the skeleton, feeling a deep sense of excitement and comfort. The elder, standing at the center of the altar, prayed for ancestral spirits to guide them back to their homeland, identifying their people as descendants of Heluo Suomo.
At the same time, Mu Ruhanjiang arrived alone in Yuezhou to visit Su Yuning. He witnessed local officials forcefully pressuring Su Yezhang, Su Yuning’s father, to marry off his daughter. Su Yezhang, knowing his daughter was destined to be an empress, proudly refused the marriage proposal from King Jing, unwilling to easily marry her to anyone else. That night, to protect Su Yuning from falling into the hands of villains, Su Yezhang secretly sent her away in a humble carriage.
Mu Ruhanjiang, seeing her departure and concerned for her safety, secretly followed the carriage. After following her all night, Mu Ruhanjiang tracked Su Yuning to Yishui Village. Su Yuning, now a beautiful and graceful woman after four years, disembarked from the carriage. Mu Ruhanjiang, moved by her presence, continued to follow her into the village until she reunited with Granny Su, her trusted servant, whom she hadn't seen since their separation in Tianqi City.
Seeing Su Yuning safely settled in the peaceful and harmonious village, Mu Ruhanjiang felt reassured, though he did not leave the vicinity. Granny Su, delighted by the reunion, instructed her husband, Wang Duo, to prepare their main house for Su Yuning while they moved into the hall. Su Yuning met Wang Duo, a simple farmer but a genuinely kind man who treated Granny Su with immense affection, even cooking for Su Yuning, which deeply touched her.
Wang Duo’s devoted care for Granny Su, whom he still cherished like a princess, made Su Yuning envious, noting that Granny Su had finally found a good person. Granny Su, though happy, expressed fear of losing it all, but Su Yuning reassured her that Uncle Wang Duo would always be good to her, sharing Wang Duo’s sentiment that simply being with Granny Su made him happy.
Su Yuning confessed that she only wanted someone who understood and cherished her, desiring a personal connection over the title of empress. During this time, Mu Ruhanjiang sought information from a ferrywoman, learning that Yishui Village was picturesque and its households lived in harmony. Later, Muyun Lu and his group encountered a brutal ambush in Yishui Village. Assailants erupted from the ground, catching the Liontooth Guards off guard. The guards were swiftly overwhelmed and entirely annihilated, with no survivors.
Muyun Lu, seeing the dire situation, attempted to escape but was also dragged underground by an unseen force. In this critical moment, Mu Ruhanjiang suddenly appeared, saving Muyun Lu and carrying him away from the scene. However, they soon fell into a hunter’s trap and both lost consciousness. Mu Ruhanjiang awoke in a warm house, discovering Muyun Lu was severely injured. He rose to find medicine to clean Muyun Lu's wounds.
Muyun Lu mistakenly believed Mu Ruhanjiang had been secretly following and protecting him all along. Mu Ruhanjiang denied it, stating that protecting the Muyun clan was the duty of Mu Rushuo, not his. Given the immense danger indicated by the death of all the Liontooth Guards, Muyun Lu, seeing Mu Ruhanjiang’s resolute attitude, changed his mind and earnestly pleaded for Mu Ruhanjiang to stay and protect him for a while. Mu Ruhanjiang, though initially reluctant, agreed.
While searching for medicine in the kitchen, Mu Ruhanjiang was mistaken for a thief by a woman and struck with a wooden ladle from behind. He turned to find that the woman was, unexpectedly, Su Yuning. It was revealed that Wang Duo had rescued both Mu Ruhanjiang and Muyun Lu. Mu Ruhanjiang immediately called out Su Yuning's name. Despite the years of separation, Su Yuning recognized him instantly, remembering his protection during their youth in the palace.
Blushing slightly, she asked if he had something to say to her. However, Mu Ruhanjiang became flustered and stammered, only managing to ask Su Yuning for some wine, claiming he needed it for Muyun Lu's wound. Su Yuning, who had wanted to speak with him, watched as he left. In the mountains, Wang Duo and Granny Su were digging for herbs. Wang Duo, still doting on Granny Su, shielded her from rough work.
They discussed the two men they had rescued the previous night. Wang Duo intended to let them stay and recover, and he asked Granny Su to determine their backgrounds, noting their contrasting appearances—one like a common wanderer, the other like a rich young master. Muyun Lu observed that Mu Ruhanjiang seemed distracted and preoccupied after returning from the kitchen. Mu Ruhanjiang, however, denied it and refused to mention Su Yuning. Later, Granny Su returned.
Mu Ruhanjiang overheard Su Yuning conversing with Granny Su and decided to follow Su Yuning to the riverside. By the river, Mu Ruhanjiang and Su Yuning met, exchanging smiles and discussing matters of the palace. Su Yuning, seeking to understand his true feelings, asked why he had protected her when they were young. Mu Ruhanjiang, in turn, asked Su Yuning why she had been sent out of the imperial palace, a question that deeply troubled her.
Unwilling to answer, she turned to leave, but Mu Ruhanjiang pressed her for a response. Su Yuning, her face filled with disappointment, quietly questioned if he hadn't recognized her feelings. Mu Ruhanjiang, however, looked at her with confusion, failing to comprehend her meaning.
