The Sun in the Dark Episode 12 Recap
> The Sun in the Dark Recap
Bai Chuli found Wan Guchen to be a deeply intriguing and stubborn man. She sensed his underlying affection for her, yet he deliberately suppressed his feelings, even going so far as to seal his acupoints to control himself. She noted that his eyes clearly showed infatuation, but he would rather inflict harm upon himself than touch her, a contrast to other men who would have lost control long ago.
Long ago, when Wan Guchen was a child, two Daoists were searching for a "demonic woman" dressed like a dancer. They questioned young Wan Guchen, who remained silent. Suspecting him of being the woman in disguise or being complicit, the Daoists attacked. However, they soon discovered his profound cultivation and, deeming him too powerful, hastily retreated. Later, Wan Guchen confronted Bai Chuli, reminding her of her past tendency to use her beauty to entice others.
He demanded she swear an oath: if she ever harmed an innocent life again, her appearance would become utterly hideous. Reluctantly, Bai Chuli, identifying herself by name, agreed to the vow. Despite her promise, she later committed wicked deeds again. Consequently, her face became marred by a deep scar, and people shunned her, calling her hideous. Bai Chuli realized her disfigurement was a direct consequence of her broken oath.
Returning home, she found that her grandmother, Madam, had passed away, as Bai Chuli’s scarred face prevented her from seducing men and collecting vital energy to sustain their people. Another young girl, Ling, gave Bai Chuli a "Coldwood Origin Stone," a supreme treasure Madam had entrusted to her for Bai Chuli's protection during severe injury, though it couldn't save Madam's life.
Bai Chuli lamented her inability to absorb vital energy due to her ruined face and worried about her own impending demise. Soon, other Night Clan members confronted her, mocking her hideous appearance and challenging her right to the Spiritual Spring, arguing she could no longer protect her people. During this dangerous encounter with her own clan, Wan Guchen unexpectedly appeared and fought off her attackers.
Bai Chuli was surprised by his intervention but remained heartbroken over her disfigured face, weeping uncontrollably. She questioned Wan Guchen, asking if he was satisfied with her current state and expressing that she would have preferred him to kill her with his sword. She defended her past actions by saying the men she harmed were immoral, and if they were like him, she couldn't have harmed them.
Wan Guchen calmly reminded her that her disfigurement was due to her own broken vow. Seeing her distress, he magically made flowers bloom around her to comfort her. Still distraught, Bai Chuli found Wan Guchen the most intriguing and difficult immortal she had ever met. She asked his name. Wan Guchen revealed himself as Wan Guchen, the War God of Nine Heavens. Shocked, Bai Chuli understood why he possessed such formidable power and constantly thwarted her plans.
He dismissed her concerns about her appearance and advised her to focus on her own problems. He then brought Bai Chuli and Ling to a new place that felt strangely familiar, transferring some of his vital energy to them and urging them not to harm others again. Ling later confided that Wan Guchen continued to visit secretly at night, transferring vital energy while they slept, but he never showed himself.
Determined to see him, Bai Chuli decided they should leave, hoping he would follow. Soon after, Bai Chuli discovered her face had been completely healed. Realizing it was Wan Guchen's doing, she called out his name, questioning why he would restore her beauty but still refuse to meet her, vowing to find him. Bai Chuli went to Nine Heavens to find Wan Guchen.
Meanwhile, Wan Guchen was summoned by the Immortal Lord, who reminded him of his duty as the Sword Master of Nine Heavens and cautioned him against protecting Bai Chuli. Wan Guchen declared he would not harm her. The Immortal Lord then threatened to personally deal with Bai Chuli. Just then, Bai Chuli burst into the Nine Heavens, boldly demanding to see Wan Guchen and challenging anyone who dared to stop her.
The Immortal Lord was impressed by her audacity but asserted that for the safety of the Three Realms, he had no choice but to end her life, accusing her of being a scourge of all Three Realms, even if she had not fully awakened her powers. Wan Guchen intervened, declaring that with him present, no one could harm her. The Immortal Lord questioned his loyalty, reminding him of his duty and the judgment of the masses if he favored her.
Bai Chuli, realizing the predicament, asked Wan Guchen if he had been avoiding her due to her identity. She boldly proclaimed her love for Wan Guchen and offered to extract the demonic bone from her body to prove she was worthy of him. Wan Guchen called her insane, warning her that the pain of demonic bone extraction was akin to having one's heart devoured, and a single mistake could lead to her complete annihilation.
Despite his pleas and attempts to stop her, he was forcibly restrained as Bai Chuli proceeded with the excruciating process, declaring that the demonic bone meant nothing compared to him. Even after Bai Chuli successfully extracted her demonic bone, the Immortal Lord remained unconvinced, still intending to kill her and casting doubt on her intentions.
Wan Guchen, proclaiming Bai Chuli was the only person he wished to protect in all the Three Realms, fiercely fought against the Immortal Lord and his forces. The Immortal Lord commanded the immortals to form an array to "slay the Night Deity" and to deal with Wan Guchen for colluding with the Night Clan.
As Wan Guchen was overwhelmed, a voice spoke to Bai Chuli, telling her that watching her beloved being attacked must be agonizing and offering her supreme power to save him. Desperate, Bai Chuli cried out for power, and the Night Deity's power within her suddenly erupted, allowing her to escape from the immortals. Later, with Wan Guchen severely injured, Bai Chuli asked him about the voice in her mind.
Wan Guchen confirmed it was the Night Deity, the father god of her clan. He explained that the Night Deity had indeed existed three centuries ago, and he had personally slain him then. Now, the Night Deity had revived within her, and as the seal within her body weakened, the Night Deity would fully awaken, causing Bai Chuli herself to disappear completely.
