Su Zixin fought Qiao Ci with ruthless moves, not only injuring him but also breaking his weapon. Just when everyone thought Qiao Ci was sure to lose, Wei Shao stepped forward, claiming the weapons they provided were subpar. He then brought out his late brother’s spear and gave it to Qiao Ci. When Su Ehuang saw the weapon of her deceased lover, her eyes welled up with tears, but she quickly composed herself and forced a faint smile.

With this spear, Qiao Ci defeated Su Zixin. Su Zixin suddenly launched a hidden weapon at Qiao Ci, but fortunately, Qiao Ci blocked it. Wei Shao punished Su Zixin by forbidding him from participating in the upcoming matches. Witnessing this, Su Ehuang slapped Su Zixin in public and blamed herself for poor discipline.

She also announced that her purpose in coming was to find a new master for Xue Tai and took out the military tally Xue Tai had entrusted to her. This piqued Liu Yan’s interest. Wei Yan and Wei Shao visited the injured Qiao Ci together, showing genuine concern in their conversation. From Xiao Qiao, Qiao Ci learned that the spear he used was the most treasured relic of Wei Shao’s elder brother.

He couldn’t help but praise his brother-in-law, which made Xiao Qiao happy to hear Wei Shao being complimented. At the subsequent banquet, Wei Shao attended with Xiao Qiao and had her distribute the hunted food, effectively announcing her importance, which surprised Xiao Qiao. Gongsun Yang publicly presented a topographical map, proposing the construction of a canal to benefit the people.

However, many, incited by Liu Yan, misunderstood and thought the Wei State was planning to station troops in various regions, thus opposing the idea. Xiao Qiao, speaking as both a Wei family wife and a Qiao family daughter, explained her grandfather's resolve to build a canal despite public misunderstanding at the time. Through house-to-house visits and leading by example, prosperity was eventually achieved. Still, the crowd believed Xiao Qiao was only defending her husband.

Qiao Ci then stepped forward, speaking as the heir of Yanzhou, and highlighted the benefits of canal construction. He praised Wei Shao for setting aside his hatred for the sake of the people and marrying Xiao Qiao, calling it an act of great righteousness. Convinced by Qiao Ci’s words, the crowd agreed to the canal project and showed respect to Wei Shao.

Wei Shao’s appreciation for Qiao Ci was evident, but Liu Yan still opposed and publicly vowed never to join. After the meeting, Wei Shao thanked Qiao Ci and expressed regret over his initial harshness. However, Qiao Ci continuously praised Wei Shao and recounted all the good he had done for Xiao Qiao. Wei Shao was pleased but felt Xiao Qiao had exaggerated a bit in front of Qiao Ci.

Qiao Ci truthfully shared that everything he said today had been taught by Xiao Qiao, and he had memorized it for a long time, fearing he might say something wrong. Wei Shao felt even more affection for Xiao Qiao. Wei Shao sought out Xiao Qiao and thanked her for her trust, admitting his own narrow-mindedness in the beginning.

He said that when they first got married, both hid their true feelings, but at some point, he no longer wanted to keep secrets from her and hoped they could become a true married couple. Xiao Qiao suddenly held his hand and asked, “After all we’ve been through, aren’t we already truly married? ” Moved, Wei Shao pulled Xiao Qiao into his arms.

Su Zixin discovered that Su Yan had killed their father to seize power and advised Su Ehuang not to associate with such a person. Even if she must marry, she should choose a good man. Su Ehuang believed that the hardest and easiest thing to control was the human heart; as long as one grasped a person’s needs, they could be turned into a puppet.

She then deliberately had Su Zixin spread the rumor that Liu Yan had murdered his own family. During Liu Yan and Zhao Kai’s banquet aimed at winning over regional lords, not a single guest arrived—only Su Ehuang came alone. Liu Shan believed it was because people thought Liu Yan had killed his father and brother. However, Liu Yan thought they were avoiding him for fear of offending Wei Shao after their fallout.

Su Ehuang, speaking from Liu Yan’s perspective, expressed full understanding of his actions and shared her own similar experiences. She understood that without value, one becomes worthless. Liu Yan sensed she had an ulterior motive and asked directly. Su Ehuang admitted she only wanted to find a good partner to plan grand affairs with. Liu Yan, however, merely invited her to enjoy the scenery at Liangya. Su Ehuang stood to leave, asserting her determination not to seek refuge at Liangya.

As she departed, Liu Shan warned Liu Yan not to trust her, saying she just wanted good soil for the peony on her forehead. Liu Yan understood Su Ehuang well. The reason he talked so much with her was because she reminded him of Xiao Qiao. Xiao Qiao had chosen Wei Shao over him because, though she was raised by Madam Ding, everyone treated her as their own, and she was willing to sacrifice everything for her family.

Unlike him and Su Ehuang, who were always used as pawns—mere ants. Xiao Qiao and Wei Shao saw Qiao Ci off. Qiao Ci entrusted Xiao Qiao to Wei Shao and warned him that if he ever wronged Xiao Qiao, he would stand up for his sister. Wei Shao, in turn, warned Qiao Ci never to go to places like Luozhongfang again.

Xiao Qiao reminded Qiao Ci to leave more supplies for her sister when passing through Liangya, knowing Da Qiao and Bi Zhi were not living well. Watching Qiao Ci’s departing figure, Xiao Qiao felt reluctant to part. Wei Shao then rode his horse with Xiao Qiao to catch up and escort Qiao Ci further. Wei Yan, witnessing this, smiled in relief. Su Ehuang, fearing others would covet her now that she had shown her hand, asked Wei Shao if she could temporarily take refuge in the Wei State.
