The Best of You in My Mind Episode 14 Recap
> The Best of You in My Mind Recap
The dinner ended unhappily as Lin Xichi confronted her mother. Her mother explained that sometimes people must sacrifice things for their dreams, facing many difficult choices in life. Lin Xichi questioned why she and her brother, Lin Xi Geng, were the ones sacrificed. Her mother insisted it wasn't what Lin Xichi thought and that she never wanted to leave them, but Lin Xichi remained firm.
Lin Xichi asserted that she was no longer the little girl who could be easily appeased with a meal at Pizza Hut. She told her mother that she was not there when Lin Xichi needed her and that she had grown up, could live independently, and no longer missed her as much. Because of this, Lin Xichi stated that she could not forgive her mother.
Back in the dorms, Lin Xichi listened to Xu Fang on the phone, asking if he preferred white or pink. After he said white, she declared she would smash the white one. She then deliberately broke Xin Zi Dan’s mug, which took her four attempts. She quickly ran out of the dorms, admitting she had done something wrong and needed to escape.
Later, she went to a store and purchased a new mug, a simple white one, to replace the broken one. When Lin Xichi returned to the dorm, she found Nie Yue and Xin Zi Dan discussing the broken mug. Xin Zi Dan tried to suggest that stray cats might have knocked it over. Lin Xichi, however, admitted that she was the one who broke it but insisted Xin Zi Dan should clean up the pieces herself.
Xin Zi Dan then claimed she didn't break Lin Xichi's mug, escalating the argument. Nie Yue attempted to mediate, urging them to clean up and go to sleep. Separately, a pet shop employee called the owner of two pets, Qi Qi and Xiang Xiang, to check in as the owner had not picked them up. The owner, a writer, apologized, explaining that she was working on an important book and needed an undisturbed environment.
She offered to pay the fees, but the employee expressed concern that the pets were lonely and needed their owner's company. Some time later, the owner returned to the pet shop to retrieve Qi Qi and Xiang Xiang, acknowledging that she felt guilty for being away and that she missed them too, realizing she couldn't leave them. At the gym, Jiang Zheng Xu was working when Nie Yue arrived.
He asked her how many days it had been since they first met. After a brief interaction, Nie Yue walked away, and Jiang Zheng Xu chased after her, asking her to return. When Lin Xichi and Xu Fang entered the gym, Jiang Zheng Xu's friends quickly departed. Xu Fang jokingly commented on Jiang Zheng Xu's fierce personality but noted he still had friends. Jiang Zheng Xu playfully retorted that he befriended Xu Fang to prevent him from harming others.
Meanwhile, Jiang Zheng Xu prepared for a special occasion. He ascended to the roof of a building, sitting on the edge, causing alarm among students and a coach below who feared he might attempt to jump. They tried to shout to him, but he couldn't hear them. When Nie Yue arrived, she too was terrified, believing he was suicidal.
Jiang Zheng Xu explained that it was their 100th day together and, inspired by the movie "Tangled," he was there to "pick up his Rapunzel" from the "tower." He then asked Nie Yue if she would be his Rapunzel and be with him. Nie Yue was initially annoyed he had scared her, but eventually, they shared a hug, prompting cheers from the crowd below. Later, Lin Xichi was wiping chairs in a room when Xu Fang approached her.
She appeared flustered and quickly walked away. Xu Fang smiled to himself and continued wiping chairs, eventually stumbling as he did so. That night, Lin Xichi had a vivid dream. Xu Fang appeared amidst heart-shaped candles and flowers, approaching her and asking her to be his girlfriend. She woke up abruptly, startled by the dream, muttering to herself, "What kind of dream am I having? What am I thinking? Did I fall in love with Xu Fang?"
She repeated the thought, clearly questioning her feelings. Still confused by her dream, Lin Xichi called Lin Xi Geng for advice. She asked what it meant to dream of someone confessing love. Lin Xi Geng suggested it was a reflection of her daytime thoughts. Lin Xichi wondered if it meant she couldn't accept the person in her dream.
Lin Xi Geng then asked if her heart beat faster when that person was near, if she felt happy seeing them, and if she would feel bad if they kissed someone else. Lin Xichi answered yes to all, strongly reacting to the idea of the person kissing someone else. Lin Xi Geng then asked if the person was Xu Fang, and Lin Xichi confirmed it.
Lin Xi Geng concluded that Lin Xichi finally understood her feelings, but Lin Xichi then worried if Xu Fang liked her back. Soon after, Lin Xichi received a call from Ye Shaowen, who informed her that a dog named Harry had run away from the pet shop. Lin Xichi immediately went to help, joining Ye Shaowen in the search. Ye Shaowen explained he had lost Harry when he briefly tied the leash to a bench to tie his shoelaces.
They split up to search. Lin Xichi was frantic, but Xu Fang calmly approached, handed her an umbrella, and reminded her to be careful crossing the road. Later, Lin Xichi asked Xu Fang if he believed there were any relationships in the world that never changed or people who never separated. Xu Fang sensed something was amiss.
Shortly after, Ye Shaowen approached Lin Xichi and confessed his feelings, telling her he liked her blunt personality, courage, mischief, and even her weaknesses, especially when she wore a white dress. Lin Xichi apologized, explaining that while she considered him excellent and a role model, she had recently realized she had feelings for someone else. Ye Shaowen asked if it was Xu Fang.
Lin Xichi thanked him, and offered to resign from the pet shop if her feelings for Xu Fang made him uncomfortable. Ye Shaowen dismissed the idea, stating it was unnecessary, praising her love for animals and how difficult it would be to find such a dedicated employee. He congratulated her for understanding her own feelings and asked if they could still remain good friends, to which Lin Xichi readily agreed.
Lin Xichi called Lin Xi Geng again to discuss Xu Fang. Lin Xi Geng asked what she thought of him as a person. Lin Xichi described him as having a bad temper and a long face. Lin Xi Geng then inquired if she had fallen in love with Xu Fang, suggesting she might be confusing friendship with love. Lin Xichi again confirmed her feelings, asking how she would know if it was love.
Lin Xi Geng reiterated the signs: a racing heart, happiness when seeing him, and feeling upset if he interacted with other girls. Lin Xichi affirmed all these signs. She then asked if Lin Xi Geng thought Xu Fang would like her back and if she was a big fool for asking. Lin Xi Geng warned her that pursuing Xu Fang was a significant matter concerning her future happiness and advised her to be cautious.
Lin Xichi began meticulously planning how to pursue Xu Fang, initially titling it "Plan to conquer Xu Fang," but then changed it to "Plan to conquer Fang Fang" to be less obvious. The first step in her plan was to treat him so well that he would become dependent on her. The second was to praise him profusely, and the third was to dress up to maintain his interest, noting that men are visual creatures.
That evening, Xin Zi Dan approached Lin Xichi, holding a new mug. She apologized for the previous incident, explaining she couldn't find an exact replica of the broken mug. Lin Xichi declined to accept it, stating that since she had also broken one of Xin Zi Dan's mugs in the past, they were now even. She agreed to reconcile on the condition that Xin Zi Dan teach her how to do makeup.
Xin Zi Dan readily agreed, offering Lin Xichi access to all her cosmetics. Xin Zi Dan then asked which lipstick color suited her, and Lin Xichi remarked that the pink one Xin Zi Dan was currently wearing looked nice. Nie Yue, witnessing their reconciliation, exclaimed, asking if it was a "century-long make-up" and urged them to applaud.
