The Best of You in My Mind Episode 10 Recap
> The Best of You in My Mind Recap
Lin Xichi found herself conflicted about continuing her work at the pet shop. Though she had initially felt disgusted by the mundane tasks like cleaning cages, Ye Shao Wen gently encouraged her, sharing his own initial struggles and the grittier realities of being a future veterinarian. Lin Xichi admitted she wasn't ready for the profession.
Meanwhile, Xu Fang, disappointed that Lin Xichi was contemplating giving up after having insisted on working at the pet shop, reminded her that she needed to be responsible for her choices and stick to her commitments. He stressed that she shouldn't make him look down on her, then offered her milk and took her for noodles. The following day, Lin Xichi returned to the pet shop.
With Manager Yi Fang out sick with the flu, Ye Shao Wen found himself overwhelmed. Lin Xichi confidently offered her help, recalling how she had secretly observed the manager caring for the animals. As she cautiously trimmed the nails of a dog named Xiang Xiang, with Ye Shao Wen assisting, she was accidentally bitten.
Upon learning the news, Xu Fang immediately rushed to the epidemic prevention station, confronting both Ye Shao Wen for not being careful and Lin Xichi for her own carelessness. Lin Xichi tried to explain that such incidents were inevitable when working with animals, but Xu Fang remained firm, declaring he would find the dog owner and hold them accountable if it happened again. Though Xu Fang wanted to take her home, Lin Xichi insisted on returning to the pet shop.
Both Xu Fang and Ye Shao Wen, unexpectedly on the same page, agreed she should rest. The doctor explained her vaccination schedule. On the way back, Lin Xichi told Ye Shao Wen that reading "All Things Bright and Beautiful" had reignited her dream of becoming an "interesting and caring vet." She believed Ye Shao Wen had sent her the book, making her feel the injury was worth it.
Ye Shao Wen, initially surprised by her assumption, realized he had the same book and allowed her to continue believing it was from him. Xu Fang, still concerned, warned her about the dangers of rabies, prompting Lin Xichi to playfully retort that he would be her first victim if she contracted it.
Back at her dorm, Lin Xichi confessed to Nie Yue that she had mistakenly thought Ye Shao Wen sent the cup and book, only to discover they were from Xu Fang. She felt awkward and indebted to Xu Fang, especially since she had been somewhat harsh towards him recently. Nie Yue suggested she buy Xu Fang a birthday gift in return.
As the Chinese New Year approached, Lin Xichi expressed her strong desire for a family reunion in Rong City, asking her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, to invite her father, Lin Chang Ge, and brother, Lin Xi Geng. She longed for their family to celebrate the holiday together, something they hadn't done in years. Zheng Fang Fang agreed, though she noted her busy schedule as a doctor during the New Year.
She later confided in Lin Chang Ge that their children had grown up, and it was time to reveal the truth to them, to which Lin Chang Ge agreed. Meanwhile, a Code Blue warning for a cold wave was issued for Rong City. At the pet shop, Lin Xichi comforted the two dogs, Xiang Xiang and Qi Qi, whose owner, a writer, would not be returning for the New Year, relating their separation anxiety to her own childhood.
Back home, Lin Chang Ge informed Lin Xi Geng that they would be traveling to Rong City for the New Year. Lin Xi Geng initially resisted, citing the cold weather and the dreaded Spring Festival travel rush, preferring to stay home alone, but his father insisted. Xu Fang's friend, Jiang Zheng Xu, brought milk tea back to the team, explaining that Lin Xichi had asked him to buy drinks for everyone.
Jiang Zheng Xu then pressed Xu Fang about his passive approach towards Lin Xichi, warning him that Lin Xichi spent a lot of time with Ye Shao Wen. However, Xu Fang maintained that Lin Xichi had the right to pursue her profession and he wouldn't blame her for it, believing that "forced relationships are not sweet." Xin Zi Dan approached Xu Fang, offering him snacks and asking about Lin Xichi's injury.
Xu Fang admitted that Lin Xichi still had two injections left and asked Xin Zi Dan, as Lin Xichi's roommate, to help her keep her arm dry, to which Xin Zi Dan readily agreed. Jiang Zheng Xu attempted to confess his feelings to Nie Yue, offering her a gift and expressing a desire for "eternal friendship," but Nie Yue declined the gift. Instead, she cryptically asked him if he had seen the animated film "Tangled."
Confused, Jiang Zheng Xu enlisted his roommates, including Xu Fang, to watch the movie multiple times, trying to decipher Nie Yue's hidden meaning. His friends grew increasingly frustrated, but Xu Fang, drawing on his experience of watching Disney films with Lin Xichi as a child, offered an insightful interpretation. He explained that Nie Yue, being a "good student" and "good child," was likely torn between her established image and her curiosity about love, much like Rapunzel in her tower.
Xu Fang advised Jiang Zheng Xu to be more direct. Lin Xi Geng showed a remarkable improvement in his studies, even impressing his teacher, Ms. He, who was surprised by his attentiveness in class. This newfound motivation stemmed from the "secret scripture," an exercise book given to him by He Liyang. Lin Xi Geng cleverly used his knowledge of Ms. He's daughter, He Liyang, to gain favor.
He Liyang promised to lend him another subject's "secret scripture" once he completed the current one. Lin Xi Geng, eager to meet He Liyang, became highly motivated. However, he learned that the school had arranged a two-week winter training at a shooting and archery center in the neighboring province, meaning less time at home for the New Year, which was inconvenient for his plans to see He Liyang. He Liyang challenged him to finish the exercises quickly during the winter break, implying that their next meeting depended on his progress.
