Shi Miao, hungry from studying late, attempts to cook for herself after failing to wake Shi Fen. She accidentally causes the microwave to explode, wrecking the kitchen. Amid the chaos, Shi Miao discovers what she believes is an angel pattern on a blackened pot and begins to revere it. Meanwhile, on their way to school, Wan Sui and Wan Xing mistake a man for their grandfather.
Both Wan Sui and the school doctor rush toward him, accidentally knocking each other into the water, only to be disappointed when they realize their mistake. At school, Shi Miao is praised for her greatly improved exam scores. She tells her friend Miao Miaomiao that an angel is helping her, but Miao Miaomiao theorizes it is an "Exam God" brought by the kitchen fire.
When another student, Wang Keke, accuses Shi Miao of cheating, Miao Miaomiao defends her by citing the Exam God's help. A phone call from their mother triggers an argument with Wan Xing, who accuses her of being ruthless. He declares he is selling his shares, cutting all ties, and leaving home with his brother, Wan Sui. Wan Xing's plan to stay at a hotel fails when he finds all his credit cards are frozen.
They seek help from Shi Fen but leave upon seeing him and Shi Miao fighting over the "angel" pot. The brothers end up in a cheap, dirty motel where they try to encourage each other about the future. The next morning, Wan Xing is confronted by his mother via video call about his decision to sell his shares. It is Wan Xing's thirteenth birthday, and the brothers are broke.
Shi Fen and Zhen Kaixin suggest celebrating at an amusement park, where Wan Sui plans to win prizes with his shooting skills. Shi Miao, however, feels dejected after her history teacher and the school doctor dismiss her high exam score, questioning her need for praise. While waiting for their ride, a hungry Shi Fen teaches Wan Sui to shout insults to curb hunger, and Wan Sui yells an insult at Wan Xing, who overhears.
The brothers argue in the car until Wan Xing gets carsick. Outside, when a shaken soda bottle fizzes open, Wan Xing instinctively shields Wan Sui, thinking it's an explosion. This act mends their conflict. They arrive to find the amusement park is closed. The disappointed and hungry group spots a passing cart selling crepes. They all eat, and Shi Fen buys an extra one for Shi Miao, finally explaining the "angel" was just a refrigerator magnet, and the two reconcile.
The friends then use the school doctor's money to buy balloons and celebrate Wan Xing's birthday. Wan Xing is deeply moved by the special celebration. That night, Shi Miao removes the magnet from the pot and returns it to Shi Fen.
